perfect diagnosis. i stumbled across this video as I have the identical problem. i made it to knowing the overload protection relay control was at fault. you finished the rest for me. thanks!! you saved me some time. thank you for sharing your diagnosis.
Keith, I love that you make videos after diagnosing the problem. We're all busy too and appreciate being able to consume as much of this content as quickly as possible. Keep up the great work, and feel free to let the sarcasm fly - very entertaining.
Yep, same thing here. Pin 3 on X11002 (always, why?) corroded thru and the pin is now in the connector so junction box cannot give a ground signal to the control side of the relay. I manually give it a ground signal and the car runs. Being that it is Friday evening and nothing to lose, I opened up the JB and soldered a wire on to the pin 3 on the circuit board and bypassed the connector. Now that wire still does not give a ground signal! Water has done more damage than just corroding the pin. Next is to try reprogramming the JB and see but I don't have much hope.
sun roof leaks when tube disconnects in the sun roof. The rain water then leaks onto headliner and then down through the a-piller onto electronics hidden in both kick panels.
Some useful info here, thanks! Honestly I would probably stuff a crumpled up newspaper behind it so it absorbs water instead of the wicking down to to fusebox. Then on to the 58 other problems one tends to have with a 2012 Mini Cooper. I l know this personally! :O. For me it just never ends.....never had a car leave me stranded and rolling around pounding the ground with my fists in frustration. I have yelled profanities never heard before by the ears of man. Haha.
Keith, get them to remove the a pillar trims and check the sunroof drains. They are almost always detached. Get them to check both side sunroof drains. I've had 2 of these cars this year with the same problem. Sometimes you can get the same water intrusion on the left side and have frm damage too.
My car have frm damage for sure. Before I repair frm. Trying to get car started. I get crank but no start. I try spraying starter fluid then try to start no go. I swap the relay that was showed on this video still crank no start. Any help? I live in metro Atlanta if any mini specialist can help.
@@patrickpinchinat532 check the right side passenger floor area, where the fuse panel is. You can get water damage on this side that can effect the fuse box
@@360quickshot I check that side n replace all the fuse. I didn't see any corrosion. I even unplugged the harness to check no corrosion. I do need to get a volt meter. I only I ball the area a replace ever single fuse to be on the safe side but that didn't help.
@@patrickpinchinat532 lmao in case you are still curious the relay that controls your fuel has defective soldering. Ethier replace the jbe box or remove the box split the sandwich and fix the soldering behind relay nre. It is cracked or does not have emough soldering. You can solder then put everything back together.
@@patrickpinchinat532 hello! Have you solved problems? My mini convertible 2013 doesn’t start today. It’s raining all week. I am looking for solutions on RU-vid. If you had solution pls help me.
Glad I've seen your video. Having trouble with our mini. Turns over but wont start. Common to your video is that while parked, the floor board was after a big rain. Found liner wet on psg side and a path of water drops down pillar that goes right to fuse box. Don't know how in the heck that much water got into the cab. After removing water from floor, it is STILL dripping from under car.
Hi Keith, had same issue, car was sitting in heavy rain for a few days, turned over but no spark. Removed the 11002 as you did here to check and now, after replacing it (it was fine) my remote key won't open and close the door, the petrol gauge shows empty (it has half a tank) and I even saw, what I think is, the immobilizer warning come on! Any ideas? Is there a step missing from the video where you reset something perhaps after taking this plug out and replacing it?
Brother what state are you in? I'm in California need help with an 2007 crank but no start R56 Mini Cooper. If you're not in so cal is there anyone you recommend? Ty
Hi just saw your video and I'm having the same problem except the lights on the dashboard won't even come on and tye windows are slowly rolling down whenever I open the door
VERY GOOD, BUT DONT BE FOOLED WITH RPM READINGS AS THESE ENGINES CAN GENERATE RPM WITH THE CAM SIGNAL...IT WILL BE DELAYED BUT IVE SEEN IT WITH THE CRANK UNPLUGGED. JUST AN FYI :)
I’m having a problem with my mini 2013 countryman s the battery is only 3 months old I had to get something more reliable picked up a corolla anyhow I just went a few ways without starting the mini I go start it one day no dash lights when I insert the key the interior lights are still on I’m not sure what’s the problem
Been having water intrusion on minis since the 60's lol . didn't matter so much back then as car not full of electronics and junction boxes :-) BMW had water ingress in kicker panel for most of it's production run, just ridiculous really .
Hi! I have an R60 2011 Countryman S. I have no spark and no start. Engine cranks but that’s it. I located the junction box and found that the two connectors at the bottom had water intrusion so I replaced the entire junction box with the same serial number part. I’m still having the same issue. I stopped by the Mini Cooper Dealer and they said if I replace anything electrical I have to have the whole computer reprogrammed by them. Is this true? After you replaced the junction box did you need to reset or reprogram anything?
Should be stater go off ! Click and nothing starter not necessary the junction box ! Other thing is that my mini cooper got the same issues with water and I still running my car ! The only thing that may do click and no start that’s the stater !
Hi, I have a problem with my Mini Cooper s r56 not start. The mini was on taking it out of the garage when it suddenly turned off. The first Scanner have these codes: 2781 2775 2D52 *2DCA* 275F 272F I changed 4 spark plugs, 4 coils, the Camshaft Position Sensor and a new battery. But it did not turn on, now it is giving these codes: 005E31 009314 *00A0B4* 00932D 009CB5 I deleted them and it only gives me this code: ( A0B4 ) The mini starter good but not start. I try the new battery and it says it's ok, but when I test the battery with the terminals mounted on the Mini Cooper it says it's bad I don’t now why. I also reset the new battery in the mini system with the scanner but nothing. Honestly, this situation is driving me crazy since the mini is in the garage and I need to get it out to get a jeep behind it. If I take out the mini I won't be able to enter it again because the garage is elevated. What do you think?
Great find! I agree, the minis I've worked on, all had electrical issues due to water intrusion. EVERY one. Is it common among German cars? IDK. I try to shoo them away... lol Not enough info available for them, at least in my case. Speaking of lack of info.... terrific job finding the fault, even with the lack of info!!
yep diagnose euro cars is a PITA , my sister in law call me bc her 2015 Vw Jetta wont start, i cannot get coherent DTC with my Snap on Verus only a bunch of undocumented code , barely no info in Prodemand, the PCM connectors cannot be remove without removing a stupid bracket fasten with rivet-bolts like stuff ....i just gave up
@@Jonathan11225 exactly! That has been my experience on most Euro trash, when it comes to doing repairs. Most of the time the only thing I'll ever do is some maintenance AND if the customer is using OEM parts!
Same here I can't get reliable info on alot of the vehicles. Also refuse to buy 10 different information platforms (alldata Mitchell Identifix ect.) I have alldata and trying identifix now.
Nice info sir! Now question is does the junction box need to be completely replaced just for that? And what would changing the terminal do? Avoid contact of the wires? Now if im selling the car can i get away with bypassing the relay under the hood? Any advice will be much much appreciated! Subscribed!
Yes JB has to be replaced, wiring in a relay may make it run , however you'll have check engine light on . Replacement of terminals is for repinning rather than replacing the harness. Finding the water leak is the key though
I betcha this mini has a sun roof and the drain plug is clogged. This causes water to enter the interior of the vehicle. One area to be affected is the junction box. You mentioned weeping down a wire and that is the clue.
This is caused by the weather stripping around the derange rail from the windshield I know these problem all to well but my Mini Cooper cranks and won’t start
Good video Keith. Did you say your replacing the junction box. I would assume for corrosion on the opposite terminals and damage you cant see till you remove it. ❤
So you seem to be liking the auto logic, is it like alot of oe programs, meaning 1 laptop per, at least that's how I've always been told, I was also curious what if someone just used portable hard drives would that be ok, being just now trying to get out my shop and start doing diagnostics on the go.
Well as soon as they get the replacement that was on the gameplan. Still see nothing leaking down anywhere yet. So we need to get it running and find it for sure
I know you hate but regardless that people that do have them I understand there will be problems I also understand that I’m not a mechanic I know German engineering is a pain although look at Altima 2016 my friend has one is a total piece of junk brand new 40,000 miles top of the line
@@whocares5188 I replaced the box with a junkyard part. I cleaned the connectors with Deoxit. Nothing will work as good as deoxit. The pins on the box corroded through so there was no saving it. The used box was $120 shipped
Back in the day, mid nineties I guess, when customers used to ask for a recommendation of what brand of vehicle I'd buy for myself, I used to tell them they'd be safe with anything German of Japanese. Now, when they ask, I just recommend something Japanese (except Nissan). All the German manufacturers are trading on the reputation the deservedly built up in the 80s and 90s for building a quality product. However, now, most of their models have at least one inbuilt flaw, which is usually crazy expensive to correct.
Hello Friend! I'm a mechanic in Brazil. I would like to count on your help with MineCooper. I have a Mine Cooper in the Garage that doesn't start the game. I scanned the scanner, cleared the faults, and nothing happened. As we do not have a lot of technical information about this vehicle, we are unable to protect it. Can you help me?
It came in from the sunroof drainage. That's usually the culprit. My dumb self kept sleeping on the leak that it seems to finally have cause significant damage. Car gets full power but won't crank at all. This just happened today 🤬
The Mini cooper is an abomination. This car used to be a British fish tank, although you can forgive BMC/British Leyland - the company was a disaster after all. Now they have Italian design, the Germans engineered it. I'm not 100% but i think they get the wiring looms for those cars from Italy and then they assemble it in Oxford and stick French (PSA) engines in them. I say... KILL IT WITH FIRE! QUICK! BEFORE IT LAYS EGGS! No seriously. I hate these cars. I have seen numerous cases of water damage in these, i know a whole bunch of people who own them. They are a pig to work on too.
I have a 2004 Mini Cooper S I had a key problem for about a year the Bob was broke I had type on the Lily little chip work good for a year, Park so I went to the BMW shop and got one from California they sent it to me in a day posed to be already program still won't start my car I've check the fuses kind of move them around but still it acts like it's not wanting to start and sometimes if you let it sit for a while and I'll try to start but then it seems like it's flutter you can smell gas please help desperate Texan
