This is invaluable information honestly. It does state in the workshop manual what to do but seeing it in video format is much better. Mine is still not snapping back though after new cables. I think something is wrong with the pulley as i removed it and the spring just doesn't seem to sit right in there
Getting ready to do this to my R1. Looks like the only difference is that my carb cam for the cable hook up is in-between carb 2 & 3 instead of on the side. Thanks for the vid
Where are you located out of? I bought a 2005 Yamaha R6 that had been sitting. So far I've drained and flushed the cooling system and refilled with Engine Ice, changed oil and oil filter, replaced battery and rectifier, put a race filter in it, made my own exhaust, and I think that's it so far. I need to replace the throttle cables, fix the horn, and fix/replace the headlights. Someone before me put led or hid headlights and they cut on and off for a while and now they're always off =/
Caleb White That’s a lot of good work already done. Check and see if the lights are LED or HID. HID lights will have a ballast. That’s usually the reason they don’t turn on. LEDs are cheap, and if they aren’t working, then just replace them. It would be worth your time however, to check and make sure there isn’t a short in one of the wires coming from or leading to the power source or light source. You can do this easily with a multimeter :) If there is a short, you can solder it back together and it will work just fine without replacing anything!
Got the same bike, an '04 R6. Just purchased a "Motion Pro" throttle cable...never did an install before, thanks for the insight. Was wondering, you have crash/stunt cage on your bike....what kind did you go with? I purchased a "On Point" cage but when I put it on, the mounting holes were 3/4" out......going through a refund......Oh....and BTW, I think you put your grips on the wrong sides.....the writing is upside down....lol
MrDirtdart The motion pro throttle tube and cables are a very nice setup. I was going to get them, but changed my mind last minute and decided to stay OEM. The crash cage is an old ATC crash cage. Fantastic little cage. Kept my tank and frame safe during a wreck this fall (right after I’d finished repainting and refinishing the bike too :/ ) And yes! I positioned the grips upside down on purpose, because I wanted the checkering (more texture) pattern to be directly on the palm of my hand where it would provide more friction and grip when throttling out on severe leans :P
@@motormaniac1 Cool, I will have to search online for the "ATC crash cage" hopefully they are still in business, thanks. I figured there must have been a reason why you installed the grips backwards, typically those of us who do a lot of the work ourselves, tend to pay attention to the little details...lol Better grip, better control....that's more important than being able to read the name brand. I hope you were alright from your crash! We can always replace our bikes, our lives...not so much! lol I am actually in the process of doing what you did to your bike. Just sent my mid fairings and belly pans out to be professionally painted, upper front fairings are carbon fiber, as are the front and rear fenders, the rest of the fairings are going to be custom grey with chrome fleck in the clear coat. I put a mirror windscreen on it, Olin's shorty exhaust, braided Speigler lines with 3" longer on front brake to give room for the Renthal moto bars and 1" risers, Vortex gold 520 chain with Driven sprockets -1 on front OEM 48 on rear, new ignition coils and plugs with K&N race filter, Oxford Heated Grips, (I live in Canada..COLD!) and a LED Glow 15 million colour light kit....few other things as well....I was thinking that it's kind of pointless to spend all the time and money to make it look sick only to drop it and destroy everything....that's why I wanted to put a crash cage on it. I have a 2017 WR250R with about 5 grand in mods as well and I love the sitting position being more of an upright...easier on the back, that's why I wanted the moto bars on the R6. I spend 99% of my riding on the R6....kinda went a little nuts spending...but, it's a passion, I'm sure you understand that eh?!?! Well, have fun this summer and ride safe brother!!!
MrDirtdart That, is absolutely fricken awesome hahaha. I wish I had the money and time to do all that! It took me three months just to make my R6 Street legal again hahaha. And absolutely! I walked away from the crash, very luckily. It turned out that the rear wheel bearing seized, and I happened to be mid turn when it happened hahaha. The bike had a crack in the engine case (cylinder head) which I replaced and rebuilt. I think the valves still need to be readjusted slightly on the exhaust side. When I do that, I really want to put racing cams in and a weisco piston kit. Bikes are fun man! And gosh it’s fun workin on ‘em!
@@AndrewDupin Quite alright! All comments are welcome haha. And honestly, the rear wheel still spun relatively free after the wreck. I limped it the two miles home after it happened! Hahaha. With a couple years behind it, most likely I accidentally touched my rear brake. I could have hit some ice or blown a wheel bearing too. I changed all the bearings after the wreck, and they were bad, but no idea if they had stopped working completely. They still spun relatively free, until I pushed them out. After that, they locked up.
Hey man I’ve been having trouble getting my bar end off the left hand side did you have any trouble and do you have anything that oils help I been using the big torx bit
It should unscrew right off. It may be frozen or stripped out. You can spray it with some penetrating oil to see if that helps. You could also drill it out if nothing else
