You're a lifesaver man, I'm completely rebuilding a 1999 R6 and I'm working from zero motorcycle experience, this helped me get the throttle corrected the right way with good adjustments and all. Thank you very much, safe riding!
Back when I derestricted my fizzer, I found it easy to just completely loosen the throttle cable and take it off the plate that way, and then when putting the factory throttle plate back on, I just keep giving a little twist of the throttle and adjusted the nuts till I didn't have any slack. I actually ran into issues with sticky clutch cable which was causing a number of problems. I'd release, and it'd just hang on. It was adjusted properly. Tried the cable luber and it was awful lol. So much wasted lube and I never saw any come out of the other side. Moving the cable back and forth helped though. It definitely made a difference. Now that I have that V-Strom, I found the cable feels like it's close to replacement. Gonna do what you did and check ebay for one off a low mileage bike. That'll save so much money. Hey Firefly, thanks for watching! And yes, at least in my case with such a high mileage bike, I don’t shy away from used parts.. especially if they’re known to come from a later model machine. Those kinds of parts usually have less than 5k miles on them. I need to give my clutch cable a squirt, too. I’m sure I’d notice a difference!
Just picked up a motion pro cable luber the other day and was planning on lubing the cables on my 09 fz6r. Thanks for this, now I have a better idea of how to go about it. Been dealing with a bit of a sticky throttle where it doesn't have that crisp snapback
I just had to do this on that Honda Rebel I have. Cables were busted off. Fun times. You can add a little grease around the throttle tube also where the wire cables lie.

First I've heard a lot of arguments for and against lubing the cables. Some say lube just invites dust/dirt collection and gumming. I've always lubed my cables but I also live in Florida. High humidity and lots of rain outrank any gumming that might happen.
Makes sense I suppose; however, I can tell you that these new cables feel like a world of difference in the throttle action. Much quicker snap-back, as well as faster revs since it’s so much easier to “blip.” Kind of changed the game on rev matching downshifts!
I get that. If you are using some kind of generic oil, that oil will attract dirt. However, a decent quality cable lube is usually a dry lube. That is, it goes in as a liquid, but leaves behind a dry film that doesn't tend to accumulate as much gunk. If you took a clean dry cable and compared it to the feel of a lubed cable, you'd pick the lubed one every time.
Do you have the name or part number for the plate with the two screws that hold the throttle cable? Been trying to look it up so i can have one to do the Derestrictor mod on and keep my original. Again thanks for your time.
@@TheKing-nj9ic according to the OEM parts diagram, it is part of the entire throttle body assembly and at a cost of $1,310.. think I’d source a used assembly on eBay on the cheap to have a factory backup and mod what’s on your bike.
@HalfClickUp yeah I searched ebay and found them cheap but the plates on those ones all look different then the one you pulled off your bike in the video
Been using the cable luber for a long time do it every couple of months depends on dirt and rain. You can use any kind of spray you like WD40 is the cheapest. 😈
Well I read that WD-40 actually evaporates since it’s technically a penetrant fluid and not a lube. It works for a short term fix, but lubricants with long-term viscosity will serve you better over time. I imagine this is the only can of cable lube I’ll ever need to buy. It should go a long way!
