My salute to the Ustad.I had the opportunity to listen live to him along side his late brother at the Engineers institute auditorium in 1970,They were the last performers of that night & they mesmerized the audience.
Sir you are possibly the most envied upon person on this earth....I am much younger to you Sir....wish I had been from your days and could have got an opportunity to watch both the great maestros performing live....
Stunning, brilliant singing...! I hope people in Pakistan appreciate the gems of their cultural heritage and don't abandon it just because it is shared with India... It would be a pity if such fabulous talent and artistry did not receive the appreciation and respect it deserves...

Today's India has gone into hands of fascists but I hope real Indian will be back soon. Hatred supported by current Indian regime cannot last forever, love eventually will overcome.
I imagine that I am sitting in full moon light somewhere and Khan sahib is singing this, before they could finish ,i tore my cloths and goes to the near by forest looking for God .
I have no language to express the khayal sung by Ustadji. One of teh best classic of our time. Love you Ustad, what a voice, so majestic and sweet with cultivated riaz.
This "Bandish" is actually a composition by the famous Pakistani music composer (Late) Rasheed Athrey. The film was "Waada" made in 1957 in Lahore, Pakistan. There is a video here on RU-vid. Ustad Saheb was in the prime of his youth then. The present recording was made (on Pakistan Television) when he was in his mid sixties and there is not a single shade of lack of Tayyari or Sur in his voice in all these years! Time to remember and send Love for Zahida Parveen too.
Unfortunately there is no more classical heritage in Pakistan anymore. Even the last sarangi players have abandoned the instrument. And the likes of rahat fateh ali go to the nobel prize ceremony with rock guitars and drums 🙄effectively sullying the classical methods and tradition of the gharana's

As I keep on listening to Raag Darbari more and more I find I am loving it further more every time, but this one from Fateh Ali Saheb is next to amazing, brought me to tears of depth and joy. His singing and voice in this brandish simply connects every soul to the ultimate universal God.
I read about Ustad Amanat Ali Khan and Ustad Fateh Ali Khan.....then listened to the duo enraptured. It's mind boggling how Fateh saab reinvented himself after the very unfortunate death of Amanat Ali saaab. His voice is simply majestic and dripping with classicism in every breath. He seems to the classiest of the classicists......pure bliss, divine voice,simply feel grateful to be able to listen to his vocal magic!
Wonderful texture of his voice, mesmerizing to the optimum, brilliant taans, outstanding rendition makes me not holding me tears back with sheer love of his music. Oh my God, keya gamak! Keya taan, keya tarana. Oh, heavenly music....Allah unko jannat daan kera.
Truly formidable performance. One of the most beautiful examples of classic music from South Asia. Our classical music in India and Pakistan is truly one of the gifts to the whole world, if the world have the ears to listen. Rehmat e barish huwee, par zameen Qabal na thi. This particular performance is just outstanding.

I went through the comment of Syed Hasnain above regarding the (Bandish) regarding the performance of Ustaad Fateh Ali Khan , no doubt it might have taken from some film which had been directed by some music director, but brother Hasnain I want to tell you that an expert classical singer does not require any direction when he sits for performing a classical Bandish .He is simply asked to give his performance in one or the other Raag . though the Bandish is very old yet still it gives pleasure.
Kya baat. What a difficult bandish to sing due to the fact that the second line or 'manjha' has to be timed precisely to fit into the tabla rhythm which is ek taal. Ustad Ji makes the impossible possible. Thanks for sharing Wajid Saab.
True observation. This bol is not sung by any other Darbaari renditions. This has increased the grandeur of the raag to a new faster level. In a similar but slightly slower pace rendition adopted by Pt Joshi for a Kannada bhajan ...Sadaa Yenna hrudayadalli ... sung at his later period (earlier renditions in same raag but not compared here)

Wah ustadji ye awaaj nahin shehd hai jo war war sun-ne ko ji krta hai. Jab bhi aankh meech ke sunte hain lagta hai swarg mein baithe hue hain. Ustad ji born at Hoshiarpur punjab India.
when I close my eyes and listen to this, it seems that all pains, worries and bitterness just dissolve and I am transported to a state of absolute bliss. Ustad's voice is so soothing. radio pakistan, lahore was lucky to have him sing for them( that is what it appears from the pic.)

That technique he talks about being difficult to acquire is meant to discouraging and boasting about his ability. it is the same as acquiring any difficult techniques in music , it takes understanding musically what it is and then practicing for hours , of course every human being has his limits. But these guys sell the idea it is supernatural that they have been privileged and honoured to be chosen by " God" to have this technique. Put in the time and effort and God will reward you. Simple. Btw Utd Fateh Ali is extraordinarily talented.
Superb rendition of raga Dabari. Almost similar Bandish has been rendered by Jagjit Singh in late 90's titled; "Nazr-e-karam ", and it was for the first time people came to know of the classical music training and taiyyari of Jagjit Singh whom we all used to consider only as a light music ( Gazal) singer.

I dont say dont listen to western music but we must learn these beautiful things which our ancestors have left for us in the past. Reminds me of Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan who said if at least one in every houselhold in undivided India was trained in Hindustani classical India would never have been divided.
