Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan is an Indian classical sitar player from Imdadkhani Gharana. He belongs to the seventh generation of Etawah Gharana. Shahid Parvez has performed in all major music festivals in India or abroad. Shahid Parvez also got vocal and Surbahar(sometimes called bass sitar) training from his uncle Ustad Hafeez Khan. He also received training in tabla for many years from Ustad Munnu Khan of the Delhi Gharana.
Mixture of Kalyan Ang and Kamod Ang, Shyam kalyan is a popular rag of the Kalyan family.
There are few things to be kept in mind while singing Shyam Kalyan. Gandhar is not forbidden in Aaroh, still one should not render G M P N S', rather R M P N S' is rendered. Gandhar is used in Aaroh like G m P G m R S. In general, Avroh is like this: S' N D P M P D P ; G m P G m R S. In Avroh, sometimes Nishad can be skipped like - P S' S' R' S' N S' D P. This rag is usually played between (6 PM - 9 PM) i.e, 1st Prahar of the Night.
