The sthai “mangal karan sundar gajagamini” translates to “the doer of auspicious deeds, the one whose gait is as beautiful as that of an elephant (according to traditional Indian classification, the most refined of women were those whose gait had the grace of an elephant).” The antara “nirmal gatra hari man kamini” translates to “the one with a soft gait (continuing the idea from earlier), the one who is the enchantress of the mind/heart of Hari (Vishnu).” All epithets of Lakshmi. One of my favorite pieces from this gharana.
Ustad Naseeruddin Saami, who is a brilliant master of microtones, performed this same piece a while back, though I believe he took it a bit slower. It’s nice to hear this piece in a faster gati. I think it brings out different emotions and flavors. Nice to hear that one and this one back to back actually!

Ustad Fareed Ayaz's renditions show how involved he is with his music, he is not merely vocalizing them, he sees them, he visualizes that which his voice brings forth, it's almost like a familiar, comfortable conversation between them! Absolute pleasure to listen to this kind of music!
I am going to say this and it might taste controversial but I am saying it anyways because we are here for one thing - music. Indian subcontinent has seen all kinds of regimes in thousands of years and all regimes tried to change people and their lives, practices, religions, geographies, languages, almost everything you can think of. We all humans have gone through a lot but none of the regimes could change our classical music, our raag - thats the divinity of music and our musical culture.
