It is to our fortune that the envelope of bhakti that pervaded the history and geography of Tanjavur, bequeathed us the Trinity of Carnatic composers. Today marks the 258th birth anniversary of Sri Shyama Shastry.
An eternal child calling for mother’s attention, this saint composer carried on his dialogue with the supreme mother endlessly through his musical gems. The lyrical and musical beauty in his compositions is truly ‘nArikEla pAkam’. A practitioner needs to delve deep into them - to internalise and present their immortal essence. A rasika’s ears have to reach a certain keenness to repose in the chiselled expression of his Kritis.
In the myriad of Todi compositions, a Todi again, so distinctly conceived - this composition makes an earnest plea seeking mother’s benevolent appearance.
We pay obeisance to the trinity saint Shyama Shastry - through this swarajathi.
