Really good episode. One of my favourites. Also the episode “fruit”, was a good one. It dealt with the situation of man, sticking his gland into food products for self gratification , way before the movie American Pie. So props for that. I’m a Leeds lad who has a Scottish girlfriend, and by proxy I’m trying to understand the life of a govern man. I’ve been to a lot of places in Scotland, Largs, Glasgow,Falkirk, kircoddy,St Andrews,Edinburgh and many more... and have heard the tales of the shipping yards shutting down, and leaving thriving industrial towns in disarray. That’s what Govern is, and what the downturn, and the lack of demand for british built ships, as they are supplied by China or any other countries that can build the ship with near slave labour and lack of regulations and laws.thus our competition is futile and the British government can’t not buy the foreign ships. The same with the North Of England, the mines that were shut down as the price of British coal wasn’t competitive to the price of foreign coal. So we bought elsewhere. I digress. Same with British leyland. But BL did turn into a gravy train. And the strikes didn’t help. The Austin Metro 6R4 group B rally car could’ve been better than the Audi Quattro group B and gone down in history but British Leyland dragged their heels making it and missed the boat. Group B was banned, just as the Metro was finished and broken in. ,6(cylinders)R(rear engine)4(wheel drive) amazing car
This show has a sad atmosphere I always think. Like its funny but if you think about the jokes they are pretty dark at the same time. Especially with the real life of wee Burney aswell
Yes this show does have sad undertones. The loss of Burney was very sad. I always thought they should have had a funeral on the show. The poor and downtrodden always makes for good comedy. It goes all the back to chaplin.
Whats for dinner pork..bridie hen move yer legs cookin..who would ave thought nicola Park played bridie wanted 2 be a ballet dancer..oh there's some bloke called Ford kiernon in this wonder how he got on 🤔🤪
I know late response but I'm sure they mention it was all bought and paid for in an episode and I do think Jamesie had a job at some point or ella maybe.
With a name like Craig Murray I imagine you have Scotland in your veins! I love this show - a work of genius and I remember it the first time around too.. Brilliant, but I'm not sure it did much for Glasgow's image around the world!
