They came to Reb Chaim and told him "how dare you not sign the Chairim, Even the Vilna Gaon the "Malach Hashem" signed off on it. Reb Chaim responded when Hashem told Abraham to sacrifice his son he came himself. But when it came time to tell avraham not to sacrifice his son it was just a Malach. How is it possible that avrum ignored Hashem and listened to a Malach. The answer is that to sacrifice a Jew only Hashem could say so but to save a Jew even malach is fine. Even though the vilna gone is an angel of Hashem it's not enough to sacrifice a Jew.
