I go rabbit hunting in this video after I zero using the Artillery Hold technique. If your having issues with your Air Rifle... definitely try out this technique. It might give you a tighter shot group. Thanks for Watching and I'll See You Outdoors!

Just picked up a used Gamo like in your video, mainly because of your experience. What a cool kid! Smart, competent, ethical and great safe handling of your weapon. You're respectful of the game and set a great example for others to follow. Thanks for promoting good hunting and sporting practices! Kudos to you and your family!

I think out of all the air rifle youtubers you're the only one who lives in an area like this, I love the forests and green scenery but this is absolutely a breath taking location for hiking and shooting some targets! I always come back to watch this vid or just have it playing on the background cause it's so soothing and you're an excellent shooter to boot, keep it up!

Shouldnt that be the norm? I dont find it outstanding, to do it any other way would be really unethical since you will injure animals instead of killing them. - So hes doing it right, but it should be obvious thats the only way to do it!

Good for you young man for taking the time it takes to properly sight in your rifle in to be sure of a good clean kill..... before you go out and actually hunt with it. It is also good that you state if your rifle isn't performing up to your expectations after sighting it in you will not be hunting with it. Again good job, good video, good shot, and you are becoming an excellent hunter. Thanks for the video.

You are very right to teach newbie's to air rifles about the artillery hold even though its not necessary with IGT rifles such as the one you are using, but with springers it a different story, I bought a Remington .177 air rifle and couldn't hit the side of a barn with it to the point that I returned it and bought a Crosman tr-77 fury blackout .177 and the same thing? Till I found out about the artillery hold and what a difference! filled the freezer with squirrels! I now have a Gamo Hornet Maxxim .22, its the same exact (IGT) air rifle you have only in .22 not .177. and I can shoot it like any of my rim or centerfire rifles with no issues! I have a Leapers UTG 3-9x40 scope with a Gamo gun buddy airrifle sling and a pellet pen for when Im hunting squirrel, Mine shoots the H&N crow magnums or the H&N baracuda hunters, both hollow point & 18.21 gr. I haven't seen any quality control issues from one pellet to another with the H&N pellets and I've gone threw 3 (600 pellets) tins. I have (not always but a fair amount) hit birds at 25 yards freehand without using the artillery hold, and yes it takes practice....that's what Chipmunks & sparrows are for...lol. They are unprotected were I live and legal with a hunting tag to shoot year round. Heck that's how I get out during this dam pandemic without needing a face mask, all alone in the woods with my trusty Gamo airrifle!

Good tip about the artillery hold. However, the first thing you need to check with spring piston air rifles is the scope and scope mounts. Air rifles are notoriously hard on scopes - even more so than heavy recoiling hunting rifles. That said, you are correct about the artillery hold being best for accuracy. One other recommendation - always hang on to the barrel until it is returned to the shooting position. Always return it to that seated position, even if you leave the barrel empty. Reason being that the anti-snapback mechanism is indeed mechanical. Although quite rare, it can fail. If that happens, anything between the barrel and the breech will be crushed. Also the speed of the barrel snapback (in event of safety failure) is so rapid that the barrel will usually bend upward upon closing. Finally, don't be afraid to try different brands of pellets. Believe it or not, air rifles are very particular about what they like ammo-wise. Same rifle, same day, same shooter and group size can differ by as much as two inches between brands of pellets. And another rifle might prefer the brand that the first rifle hated. Otherwise, wishing you all the best in your endeavors.

I already have a Crosman F4 for my varmint control. I protect my little bubbies in my yard from varmints. Very good tip on the Artillery Hold method. Yes it works due to the double recoil of the Nitro Piston. Slight surge forward followed instantaniously by the emense reverse recoil. Artillery Hold is the only way my friend. Good lesson here thanks ...

Good tight video that covers the basics. I have a Gamo Whisper Mach 1 in .22 that works very well and I hunt rabbits with. One area it could be better is the trigger. Fortunately, it has the adjustable CAT trigger. To shorten the second stage travel to where I want it, I need a 10 mm screw instead of the 8mm one Gamo includes with the rifle. There is a good RU-vid video that shows how to do it and equally importantly, how to test your rifle to make sure you have enough sear engagement so that it won't fire unintentionally if bumped or dropped.

Feral cats? Bullshit excuse. I hunt but wouldn't hunt god damn cat, how do you know if it's not owned? I have a male and you wouldn't know if he's feral or not by the look of him. If what you hunt is cat well you are a shit hunter because cats have, like dogs domestication and feral or not it's in the cats DNA to approach humans for food etc. So that tells me you can't hunt. Try hunting mice with a rat trap. That's a step up from that LOL.

Thanks for describing the artillery hold. Its similar to the hold of a recurve or longbow (which I'm very familiar with) the pressure you put on your bow arm is stable but also light otherwise the energy you are releasing when you release the string can cause the bow to turn and I suppose it's similar to a spring powered rifle. Working against the pressure of the spring being released is like working against the force of a string being released. Makes total sense to me in that regard.

Sin City Outdoors, I had seen your last video where you purchased the rifle and the reason that you aren't getting good groupings "yet" is because you have to allow the air rifle to be broken in, you're going to get "dieseling" from the gunk the factory uses in the compression chamber. That will subside when you have around 300-500 pellets through it. It isn't the rifle, all air rifles suffer from this break in period. The change in velocity (fps) from one pellet to the next will keep you from putting any more than 2 shots in one place, thus you will be chasing the scope adjustments till you get the break in period completed. Buy a 500ct tin of pellets and once its empty then make it a tack driver! And FYI you "don't" need to use the artillery hold for a IGT gas piston air rifle such as the Hornet Maxxim , you do however need to use the artillery hold for a Springer air rifle!!!! I bought a Remington Tyrant .177 and couldn't hit the side of a barn with it, so a few days later I returned it and bought a Crosman TR-77 Blackout .177 and the same thing, couldn't shoot it straight till I saw a video about using the artillery hold and it was unbelievable what a difference it made, still was off and on with the accuracy till I had about 400 pellets down the barrel but then it was a tack driver, and I'm sure once I can get a few hundred down the Gamo Hornet it will be the same I put a Leapers UTG on it. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-FtuGDpKlyYc.html

One practice you should always incorporate into the use of your air rifle is to hold the end of the barrel with one hand while loading the pellet into the barrel with the other (I do) because if the sear were to ever engage the barrel would slam shut taking the end of your finger clean off. It only has to happen once!

Awesome And informative Video!!I Love my Gamo Varmint .177.These Break Barrels can kill pretty much any small to med (Fox,Beaver,Skunk) Annoying property Intruders at 30-40 yards and more once dialed in. One thing ppl usually complain about is the Scope(Scope Creep)Mine has a Recoil pin(Actually a screw) that I’m sure ppl don’t notice or read the full directions to tighten it.This 4x32 Gamo Scope isn’t top of the line but it’s above average.Im not putting a 500.00 Leupold Mil-Dot on a 120.00 Rifle. But you can find very good Scopes well under 75.00 if you want to upgrade.Great Video 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻☘️☘️☘️💯💯

Love your approach and enthusiasm. When I was your ago I got real dialed in with my RWS underlever .177 caliber air rifle. Could not keep a scope on it or if I did the recoil wrecked them. I did get real good with the factory open sights. A lot of fun especially when I was dropping some starlings out to 60 yards. One hint for shooting. Air guns of Arizona sent me a sampler set of pellets when I bought a FX airgun from them many years ago. Their house brand air rifle pellet , AOA Pellet was very good. Found out they were a JSB pellet that was branded by AOA. Since that day they have been pretty much my pellet of choice. A close second would be the Crossman Premiers. Find a variety and test to see what your gun prefers. You may be surprised. Perhaps you will too find a type and brand that will consistently make a tight breach seal and be more accurate. Good luck and have fun! ps: the JSB’s (of Chech manufacture). Are quality and well priced too.

@@SinCityOutdoors There is NO SPRING. Its a nitrogen gas piston... Also, doesnt matter how tight you hold it, after you break it in. Might take a couple thousand shots...

I use a crosman phantom .22 and I can get one hole groups at thirty yards with Daisy wadcutters which are what it likes. You should be able to get similar size groups with your rifle. Try a whole bunch of different types of pellets to find out what the gun likes. Just found your channel and subbed. Good to see people your age hunting, I'd almost given up hope for your generation.

hella late ik but im on the hunt for a new gamo rifle likes alloy pellets while the most commonly found are lead, ultimately the crossman .22 lead ones would be the best to practice with keeping the alloy ones for hunting 👍🏼

Yep, rabbits and hares are frigging everywhere here in the southwestern deserts. In fact, in this state (AZ) cottontail and jackrabbit (black-tailed and antelope) hunting is year-round, with a 10-per-day bag limit on cottontails and no limit on jacks. I believe California also has no limit on jacks, though I'm not 100% sure.
