Its true, I had just graduated from film school, and got this notification from RAC on Soundcloud, and became and instant rotation in my liked playlists. Thanks for this timeless classic, RAC!
i’m with ya buddy. and the others on this reply thread. not just a time when motivation was high (and it was! graduated my masters program in 2014…) but also a time when the world wasn’t an absolute dumpster fire and people could have fun. people weren’t so SERIOUS all the time, looking for things to be offended by or upset about. the world wasn’t so fractured and divided. there was hope and there was fun. and you had to have actual talent to get a record deal. movies and music were original and fresh. people were creative. willing to experiment. again… just willing to have a bit of FUN. if i explain further, we’ll be here all day but i’m certain y’all know what i’m saying anyway. nostalgia depression is real. wish more people could just LET GOOOOO and jam tf out (see what i did there? 🤦🏻♀️ i really thought i did something) …. i’ll see myself out.
The actress and actor in the video speak volumes with their eyes and expressions, despite the fact that there's no actual dialogue. Neither of them utters a single word, but you know EXACTLY what each one is thinking at all times.
The organic tossing/catching of the knife @ 3:07 kinda makes you wonder if he had also partaken in these acts at one point in time... She fixed him a plate and everything.
I mean it's not a total stretch, he could be a person who understands her simply cause he used to be like her, but have moved on from it. That's why it hurts him so much to turn her in, because he knows the pain of it, but how necessary it is.
@@erikrosenborg196 That's why it makes more sense that it talks about alcohol/drugs/whatever adiction. Because he used to get drunk (...) with her, but realized how he couldn't keep feeding her adiction.
Of course they are by certain standards held over most the globe. From other angles...less so. Here's to appreciating what people are, rather than what anyone may want them to be...
@@drawingablank746 ‘This ugly person is actually pretty if you squint hard enough from a distance through another random obscure cultures foggy lens’ lol. No. Aesthetics and the facial recognition of symmetry is universal. Sorry bro.
@@winstongainey1112 Universal implies everyone holds the same aesthetic standards. That's clearly not the case considering not everyone is attracted to all the same faces.
@@drawingablank746 Yes people can have an individual preference for a certain ‘look’ but that has nothing to do with ingrained visual recognition of facial symmetry which is 100% universal. All the ‘akshually guys this ugly thing is purdy amirite’ stuff is just silly and contrarian and there’s too much of that bullshit right now.
i know this is an older song, but its personally helped me. my husband is a recovering addict. society and family see addicts and recovering addicts as monsters, typically. this song really helped open my eyes to what i could understand, but simply wasnt, cause of conditioning really. it helped me see him in a different way, and i think that in turn has helped us, as a couple, grow stronger over the years. from the bottom of my heart i thank everyone involved in this, its truly amazing. i cry (in a good way) every time. thank you.
@3:10 he catches the knife with ease because he has been through this with her before and maybe he had to let go of the same addiction/issues at some point. I love how much they communicate so much with their eyes in this video.
Tell me, tell me, tell me your problems I'm here for you Just try, just try, just try to stay sober It's eating you And they say you are a monster, but what I see's a child Your eyes, your eyes are glowing red And your tongue has caught on fire (You are golden, you are pure) [MNDR:] So let go, let go of your fire Let it go, let go of your fire Live it up 'til we crash and there's smoke in the air Let it go, let go of your fire (Oh) [Kele:] You play, you play, you play up to them But they're not around Don't be, don't be so rough with me When you are a gem And they ask how I can love you, when all they see is this But I see the things that you can't contain and what it does to you [MNDR:] So let go, let go of your fire Let it go, let go of your fire Live it up 'til we crash and there's smoke in the air Let it go, let go of your fire Let go, let go of your fire Let it go, let go of your fire Live it up 'til we crash and there's smoke in the air Let it go, let go of your fire (Oh) (You are golden, you are pure) So let go, let go of your fire Let it go, let go of your fire Live it up 'til we crash and there's smoke in the air Let it go, let go of your fire Let go, let go of your fire Let it go, let go of your fire Live it up 'til we crash and there's smoke in the air Let it go, let go of your fire (Oh)
So glad Pandora introduced me to this song. Kele is the main reason I adore Bloc Party. I know this isn't Bloc Party, but I'm absolutely in love with Kele's voice in this song
I see everyone trying to find the meaning to this song, well for me and my friends, this was our college pregame anthem. Everytime we played this before going out, we let go of all our troubles, our anxieties, our fears and went all out on the drinking and partying. Brings back some really good memories.....
great song, catchy as hell, and i love the subtle mannerisms of the characters in the video, their body language really brings to the story to life, and chick does the best insane eyes ever when she is sizing the chick up, and throughout the video actually
"should i take apart with this stuff?" The man telling so, with his eyes. Actually not the proper knife to get a best slice. I think its the best scene of moving your head...
Seemed like a weird video at first but after reading the lyrics and watching the video again, I found that it conveyed the message in the song perfectly. The girl is very very messed up in the head and everybody around them sees her as a monster but the guy doesn't and still hopes that she can let go of her 'desires'. He wants her to confide in him and let him help her but when she can't and gives in to her 'desires' he is forced to turn her in and hope that she can go back to normal. I think at the end of the video, she still remembers the good times they had and the freedom she once enjoyed.
I picked up on the lyrics having a serious undertone, but I was freaked at the first sight of the video. After your comment, I understand it much better and how it's connected.
mcguigan54 I thought that sounded so familiar, i am a big fan of the Clash, i thought i was the only imagining the Clash when i heard it on the Citibank commercial
I described the girl as being a cross between Monica Bellucci and Keira Knightley to a friend. The more I watch the more I think this is an apt description.
I remember seeing this music video about 5 weeks ago. But that's all I could remember from it, no lyrics, no band names, no song title, just how the video went. I remembered it being a really good song though. I had obsessed over it for weeks trying to find it, and now that I finally have found it, I could not be happier, great song.
I wish I could explain, in concise terms; just how much this song resonates with me, and my 20 year partnership with my wife. This will have to suffice; this is beautiful.
I remember the first time I heard RAC was in a Honda CR-V commercial in 2010/2011, and it was the "Rescue RAC remix". Since then, I've been a huge fan. Keep it up fellas :) Also, Kele is an amazing touch in this song. The guy is so underrated, man I miss Bloc Party :-/
Still listening to this song in 2022. This song will forever be mine. I absolutely love it! Heard it at a store while on vacation in Texas. Instantly had to Shazam it.
Rac Let Go feat Kele Oberke (Bloc Party) Amanda Warner (MNDR) and actor Derek Viveiros as mustache man and actress Kristen Carpenter as beautiful cannibal woman. This was also used on Shop Style commercial in 2013 and also very reminiscent of Clash Train In Vain from there London Calling album
The aesthetics of this video just pump me up, catchy positive beats coupled with that cold modern look in the interior design of their apartment and clothes so chic and contemporary
You are golden You are pure You are golden, boy Tell me Your problems I’m here for you Just try to stay sober It’s eating you And they say you are a monster But what I see is a child Your eyes are glowing red And your tongue has caught on fire You’re pure You are golden You are pure boy You are golden So let go, let go of your fire Let it go, let go of your fire Live it up till we crash In the smoke and the ash let it go, let go of your fire You play up to them But they’re not around Don’t be so rough with me You are a gem And they ask how i can love you when all they see is this But i see things that you cant contain And what it does to you You’re pure…

The song is about a man who deeply loves a woman who has addiction problems. Listen to the lyrics, Let Go of your troubles and addiction. Try to live in the moment, don't keep worrying about your past and your flaws because it will only cause you to relapse further. In this video, its alcohol addiction. At 1:35, they are in a malt shop or a diner. The man enjoys his milkshake, while the woman wishes it was alcoholic drink. She leaves and hunts down her addiction and is consumed by it, a metaphor represented by consuming human meat. Thats it folks. English major here Lol.
+Rasheed Ahmed Nice catch. Also at 0:59 it's like he pulled out face mask because he just wants to go out for a night without drinking. But as you noted, she can't even make it through the night. Maybe she's in rehab at the end against her will.
I'm pretty sure she just eats people.. Hence the mask, she probably bit someone before. And also when he says "it's eating you" she chomped at the camera. You can tell by the way she acts she's done it before and this was his last straw. The mask is like a hanabal lector thing..
Everyone keeps saying that the music video for this song makes no sense because of how "upbeat" the song sounds, but if you actually listen to the lyrics it makes perfect sense. Although the song itself isn't about cannibalism, it's a pretty good metaphor. So don't bash the video just because it's dark or "gross" because the song isn't exactly all that peppy.
@@erinwalsh5225 I agree! Your loved ones see the child in you, when you were free of addiction before it changes you. They see you differently then what others may.
Looks and sounds to me like he’s in love with a narcissist. She wears a mask in public, he tells her he wants to be there for her and help her with her problems, he wants her to trust him, not push him away, not be so rough with him. People call her a monster, he sees the child inside her, her eyes glowing red ( anger) her tongue has caught fire ( hatred) she’s lashing out, he wants her to just let go of the rage inside. People wonder how and why he loves her, when all they see is her chaos, but he sees the “things”(the narcissism)that she can’t contain and what it does to her(swallowed her true self whole,) the little girl overwhelmed and devoured, and subsumed. Ate her alive. Now it controls her. He sees the little girl who never got to live because she was Body snatched by a loose coalition of an ego function, a coping mechanism, and a sadistic and idealized inner critic. She plays up the the standard of these voices even though he reassures her that they are gone. However, they are never silenced, it drives the hunger and necessity for control and validation to sate the inexorable engine at the tortured, tormented, convoluted absent core of her being. You are golden, you are pure, just let it go. To his dismay he learned like so many others that they can’t be helped and they will kill you and whoever is exposed to them slowly and painfully but surely.
I cant believe you haven't gone further with your music. Can't believe iv only just heard your music!! Awesome stuff mate keep going. Will always be a fan!
I still listen to this song on any mornings that I am having a rough one or just dragging. Something so beautiful about this song that it just puts me in the best mood. And the video is the best I've ever seen....period
My beautiful mid 20s, heart broken, and trying to get it all together and move forward. Wish I knew it was all going to be alright and just enjoy the ride
This song makes me so sad, but I can't stop listening to it. It reminds me of a girl I was dating, she had an addiction problem that caused issues in her life. She was staying at my place and she was so fun to be around and she always made me smile. Although she would hallucinate people and hear voices I helped her calm down, but one morning I came home and she was gone.... I was scared. She came home hours later. I could tell something was wrong, I think she went out to do drugs. And her mental state became very bad and she later became violent because of the voices and hallucinations. I had to call the police because she kept trying harm me. She got arrested and I haven't heard from her since. I miss her sometimes.
Same situation here only it was my ex wife. She had mental illnesses and would hallucinate and become very violent. This song carries so much weight for me and speaks volumes to my situation. I see the pain in the male actors eyes and can relate heavily to his circumstance. "And they ask how I can love you, when all they see is this. But I see the things that you can't contain and what it does to you" says more than I ever could.
I think on of the best things about this kind of music is the fans. Its one of the only genres where you can look at the comments and see people sharing there passion for the music instead of just bitching. Much love evyone
In 2013, I was 20 years old and these people looked old as hell to me. Now I'm 28 and these people look like they're my age. It's such a weird feeling seeing old people look younger to you, I can't really describe it.
This song to me is about a man who is so deeply in love with a woman who has serious troubles that destroy her and affect everyone around her and he sees only the good even when she's breaking him down. And just desperately wants her to see in herself what he sees. But that's just me...
+Alex Scaffo I just spent 20 minutes replaying this song and thinking about something to write, but its pointless because you've said exactly what I wanted to say! lol. I'm going through something close to this as well right now.
I think the music video is correlating with the lyrics and the title of the song " let go" I think the whole video to show the yin/yang of letting go the things you love(for him, its the girl and for her its killing/eating them) simply put this is just a metaphor for the hard choices we will all encounter in life but at some point or another, you just have to let go.
This song is too cool , in reference to hearing the problems that many beautiful women DO HAVE and then listening to EACH ONE WOMAN and the problem (s) there of . and the many solutions that are then readily available to share with each one ( of them all ) . " INTERESTING "
