Biggest issue is that burning corn as fuel instead of using it as food has an impact on the worldwide price of corn, which hurts the worlds poor. Politicians from corn producing states wield a lot of power.

Using food space for race fuel is definitely not sustainable nor ethical. Ethanol can be made from refuse biomass though which is what we should be doing.
@mcfoolskully
@mcfoolskully 3 года назад
@@stevekalesia3922 No, bioethanol dedicated crops are not waste crops. It takes immense land usage, water input, and fertilizer which also massively contributes to GHG emission and eutrophication. That is food source diverted for racing fuel. Waste biomass would include sewage wastewater, animal residues and byproducts, industrial wastes, etc. I love my race fuel, but I'm relatively educated in energy sustainabilty and its laughable to refer to dedicated biofuel crops as sustainable. It's not.

This is great information, especially for people who are just converting to ethanol. I do have one question though. If a car is tuned on pump E85, would it still be okay to run it on race ethanol?
@realstreetperformance
@realstreetperformance 3 года назад
It would be OK but the tune should really be gone over any time you change fuel. I can't really tell people "it will be fine" without knowing the quality of E85 they originally tuned their car on. So the responsible answer is to log the car after the fuel change and verify that no adjustments need to be made. shoot me an email at clay@realstreetperformance.com if youd like more help switching to race ethanol

Do you still need a flex fuel sensor if your running race ethanol, like your talking about in this video. Im referring to race car application not dailys
@realstreetperformance
@realstreetperformance 3 года назад
The only reason you would NEED a flex fuel sensor is if you wanted the ecu to automatically correct for a variation in ethanol content between tanks of fuel. The most common reason for this is when people are switching back and forth between gasoline and ethanol, or when someone is using pump ethanol that varies in ethanol content from tank to tank. However, if your car was dedicated to a race ethanol that is consistent between batches, and you will not be swapping back and forth between gasoline and ethanol, then there is really no need for a flex fuel sensor. You can just tune it for the fuel it races on, and leave it on that fuel. The only trouble you could run into is if you are using a brand of fuel that varies in mixture from batch to batch. We personally use One Ethanol at Real Street and have had nothing but success with it.

I know that One S isn’t quite as spicy as One R but, I suspect that the benefit over pump E85, assuming it’s above your peak performance threshold (E70 or so) for tuning, would also be a noticeable difference? For instance, I generally use pump E that is over E75 and will use One S to top it off if I’m going out to run the car. While it’s diluted with the pump E, I still think that should provide a benefit, right? Perhaps with blending, I should go with One R to ensure a more potent mixture. What do you guys think?
@realstreetperformance
@realstreetperformance Год назад
Hey Matt. Try thinking about it from the other direction. Imagine that, as in ingredient, ethanol, it self, is ethanol. And the other non-ethanol 15-30% of pump ethanol fuel is what determines the spectrum between a worse fuel and better fuel. The non-ethanol portion in pump E85 is not a good fuel by itself to run though an engine, but its cheap and once you mix it with a bunch of ethanol, the final product is good enough to run through an engine. (one of many reasons why they have to mix something in is to make the otherwise edible pure ethanol non-edible so it wont be taxed at the higher beverage tax rate which would inflate the price) The reason why Pump E85 is better for racing when it has higher ethanol content is because higher % of ethanol means lower % of the other not-good stuff. The biggest difference between race ethanol (like One R or One S) and pump ethanol is the non-ethanol ingredients that are mixed with the ethanol. Pump Ethanol is meant to be affordable for everyone in daily use so it uses inexpensive low quality denaturants, race ethanol is not bound by the price so it swaps out the low quality non-ethanol denaturant for high quality non-ethanol denaturant that improves combustion and does a better job in facilitating the generation of horsepower. So lets say you go to the gas station with an empty tank and pump 10 gallons of Pump Ethanol that measures out to E70. That means you have 7 gallons of ethanol and 3 gallons of low quality non-ethanol ingredients that, themselves, are not good for performance. Then for the sake of easy math lets say you put 10 gallons of One S on top. That would be another 8.5 gallons of ethanol and 1.5 gallons of high quality non-ethanol ingredient. So you end up with a total of 15.5 gallons of ethanol, 3 gallons of "something not good", and 1.5 gallons of "something good". So your ethanol content percentage is 78% but your "low quality additive" percentage is 15% and your "high quality additive" percentage is only 7.5%. One S and One R are formulated to be used without mixing. The thing you are paying extra for when you buy race fuel is really how good the non-ethanol part is for making horsepower and preventing detonation. When you mix the fuel, you dilute the ingredient you paid extra for, decreasing its effectiveness. My suggestion is to stop looking at ethanol fuels by the ethanol content and start looking at them by their non-ethanol content. With pump fuels you want as little non-ethanol denaturant as possible (because its not good for performance). But with race ethanol fuels, you want the intentionally formulated amount of hight quality non-ethanol denaturant an analogy I use sometimes in this example is if you went to a bar and they had two vodka drinks that each had 2 equal sized shots of the same vodka mixed with "something else" in them. If one was 3 dollars, and the other was 12 dollars your first question should be "if they both have 2 shots of the same vodka in them, what is it about the other ingredients that makes one cost quadruple the price?"
@Omega_TTRS
@Omega_TTRS Год назад
@@realstreetperformance thanks for the reply, fellas. I generally run my car on One S but, as I’ve been driving it around more lately, that can become quite costly-especially with no pump E available for hundreds of miles from me. So I take a trip every few months and fill up at the closest pump and get a few hundred gallons to hold me over until the next trip. Suffice to say that from your feedback, you’d likely advise that I run my fuel down and fill up with One S when I intend to do some 🇲🇽 runs or track work over running a mix of pump E and One S? That makes sense to me and the feedback certainly isn’t lost on me at all. Under this same premise, what are your thoughts on One S vs R? Is it worth the difference on a car only making about 800-1k?

Would it be wise to mix this with pump e85, almost like an Ethonal booster to ensure you're at the 85% E range? Kinda like what regular 93 pump gas users do with torco or boostane to increase octane or to make sure they're at least at 93 octane. I was thinking of buying a 54 gallon drum and putting in 5 gallons of race ethonal and 8-10 gallons of E85 pump ethonal....

This is straight BS! My pump E85 test at e94-95 straight from the pump! Portland Oregon, I understand other places may have lower e rating depending on time of year but this video is bullshit and just trying to sell you something you don’t need. Smh what let me guess you put something special in it and now is knock bullet proof? Lol well what are you saying to the guys running 1000+ whp on pump E85 and never having any knock issue?
@CP110
@CP110 3 года назад
Winter or summer blend? Also it was stated that pure ethanol is still not as resistant to knock as race ethanol due to the additives used. Unless your running 40+psi I doubt you would start stressing the knock properties of pump ethanol. This isn't a fuel for a daily driver but for serious track use when ur pushing the limits of timing, boost, compression ratio. Cylinder pressure so high they physically distort and lift the head off the block.
@dj4monie
@dj4monie 3 года назад
California does not have a winter blend. Not sure about Oregon, but while it does snow there it's much shorter than typical cold climates in the rust belt. Cali E85 test at 80-85%. This isn't an issue for the vast majority since despite the internet most people aren't even making 400 hp let alone 500 hp. Even fewer make more than that.
@dj4monie
