Race Face Turbine R Wheel and Vault Hub Update 

Wow! Must have been a hit at the perfect angle or a defective rim. I've ridden Boondocks, Sticks & Stones, Flameout and upper Karpiel dozens of times and have never had a problem with the wheels. Downieville and Georgetown are pretty hard on wheels/tires too and still no damage beyond paint scratches.

Do you have an update on the warranty situation, I bought a bike with the rims & think there is an issue, a smoke broke, the wheel has a wobble & when I jump I hear a metal sound coming from my bike, I think it might be coming from the wheel

I just bend mine yesterday while rolling down stairs. I'm kinda sad cuz I actually liked that 120 clicks. Idk how it happened but it made an really loud noise. Do you have any clue why that could have happened ? 2.5 bar tire pressure and serviced after every long ride.

hmtb 763 My pleasure. They are a great wheelset and a nice alternative to carbon, especially for racing where durability is important. Engagement is outstanding.

hmtb 763 Just ride it. A lot of hubs roll slow straight out of the box but a few rides in the will redistribute the grease and speed up. I'm not sure at what point the Vault hubs lossened up but they did and I never really noticed it so the difference in rolling resistance is probably pretty low. In other words, go shred and don't worry about it. 😎🤘

How is it spinning now? I was cleaning up my bike and changing out brake pads and noticed my newish rear wheel is spinning very well now that the grease has been distributed.

Hi Oscar, my wheel was warrantied 100% by RaceFace. Well, I had to pay for the boxing and shipping from the shop because I didn't purchase from them but that's all. I didn't notice any other issues like the cracks you mentioned. I would contact the shop/store you purchased the wheels from and have them start the warranty process. As long as you have a receipt of purchase they will take care of you.

You could remove the cassette then the frehub body and then take a lil bit of grease out and then put everything together and it should be louder

@@blvck______ Hey, thanks for sharing. I actually ended up taking them apart and applying a thin silicone based grease that I use on my folding knives. sounds like a bunch of angry bees now love it and find myself free wheeling sometimes just to listen to the hub.

From my understanding, the vault hub that they put on easton wheels used a 3 pawl hub with less contact rather than 6 like the racefaces. Might explain a noise difference, could just be for their road/gravel spec wheels though,

I sold my bike last year but my wife has been racing on them for 2 years and they have held up perfectly!

i think thats why the bloke sold it to me for $120 CAD wheel set later i think will clean up and squirt some loctite retaining compound 609 the stuff is amazing !!!!!!!!

Planetone. They are a great wheelset in all ways I can think of. We just ordered a set for my fiance's Wreckoning.

I bought them from VeloFix, a mobile bike repair company here in the Sacramento area.

Just ordered a rear wheel from CRC/Wiggle, got 50% :D Now I just need to find a front wheel.

mjs1231 Yeah I'm not real big on servicing stuff but I should be. They still work perfectly. My fiance just bought a set of 29ers for her Wreckoning and fell in love with them. Haha

What's funny is we don't really have lawns in my area. I'm not sure what that guy/girl was doing but it lasted for hours. lol

Easy to warranty if you have a receipt for the bike (if the wheels were an OEM part on the bike). If you bought the bike used then you are likely on your own because there is no telling how abused they were by the previous owner. Race Face is pretty adamant about having a receipt of purchase.

That sucks man. :( I feel it is important to voice these issues whether they are good or bad. My fiance is in the #1 spot in the California Enduro Series running these wheels so for us they work. I feel for you though. When a company doesn't take care of you in a case where you feel it should be covered it's a tough pill to swallow. Thanks for following up and letting "us" know how it was handled.

Justin Wages yeah I honestly find that hard to believe. I’ve been up riding at northstar everyday, ride most the stages of the enduro series last weekend. Have not spotted them on any other bike yet. Race Face has zero customer service whatsoever. They didn’t offer a single thing to help me replace my wheel. I told them I would pay for an Atlas rim even two weeks ago and supposedly it was being sent to a local dealer where I have to pay full retail price. Still nothing. Have been running spank spikes every since, landed hard enough to hit and break my seat rails, spanks are still perfectly true; never even got the chance to put the turbines to that. So seriously pissed off at race face it’s unreal, like all the reviews are just from employees or something.

I hear ya. But yeah, she raced on those wheels at CES last weekend and China Peak and Big Bear before that. She's light but for some reason she is harder on tires than I am despite our huge weight difference. She didn't take her bike (Evil Wreckoning) up to the podium with her so you probably missed it parked out front. We'll be up at the Mammoth race too. Justin Wages ahhhh yes, that makes a little more sense.! I’m 175lbs and pretty much right there with most any of the fast downhill guys. Goodluck on the racing, Im not lucky enough to have the money to travel anywhere to ride, just have a pass to North Star.lol

I hear ya. Jeni has a pass, I don't. I'm 185lbs geared up and habitually pick bad lines but probably nowhere near as fast as you. I think you just got a bad wheel. Wish they would take care of you on it.

I'm not sure since these don't use decals. They are waterprint type of thing.

I sold them when I sold that bike. They held up amazingly well despite some hard hits. My wife ran them on her enduro race bike (Evil Wreckoning then Fezzari La Sal Peak) for 2yrs+ and never once had an issue. I still recommend them.

@@ryanbaillargeon3284 They are pretty good! My wife recently switched to the I9 Enduro with Hydra hubs and loves them but not sure how they'll hold up in comparison. The RF and Vault setup is proven IMO.

Justin Wages I’m sort of going back and forth with the i9s, but can get a better deal on the RF and the vault hub seems to be pretty decent

Whatever cassette you want to run. You may need an adapter but that is easy. They are compatible with SRAM and Shimano.
