I can remember me and my dad and wee brother used to call in to Frank's motorcycles in Lisburn County Down, every Sunday on the way to my Granny's house for dinner, he had this bike in his shop brand new. I was only 6 or 7 years old at the time and he let my dad lift me and the little brother up onto this awesome machine... I can remember that like yesterday, the smell and everything.. Just a beast 💪💪💪

Hi! Great Video! Micky, you are Motocross Legend my Friend, but at frames 4:28 David suddenly painfully realized he'd have to "carry" the rest of the interview. I don't "remember" much about my 1974 Motocross win at Carlsbad (250 Beginner's Class) except my damn 1st place trophy, and the helpful spectator crowd who alerted me to my jammed kill switch on my '74 Honda CR250 Elsinore when I crashed a turn right in front of them and still hung on to First!

Steve once again did an excellent job. The bikes he does look like they just rolled off of the showroom. I wish Micky would of given more insight. I know that he didn't have success with Team Yamaha but he rode for them 1988-1989 and road for the BYRD Yamaha Team for the 1990 250 World Mx Gp series. So more in dept insight would of be great.

From him on the Husqvarna's to his glory on the powerful team HRC Honda, to team Yamaha, to team BYRD Yamaha, through his ride in 1992 in the 4 Supercross Races he did getting ready for the 1992 250 World Motocross Championship on the Trampas Parker Honda Team.

My first 80cc bike was a borrowed one for like a year and it was a 1991 YZ80. I feel this 250cc bike has a softer power-torque curve combination than that 80cc bastard! That bike had some weird kind of _2-stage_ power-torque curve. On the bottom it was a kid's bike, it was kinda hard to stall, it was easy to ride... Then you'd bring the revs up and at one point the sound changed radically and it became a bitch. Wheelspin, powerslides, that little bitch could throw fairly nice chunks of dirt and rocks quite far away. I remember one day my dad went for a ride with the bike and within seconds he was doing wheelies on FIFTH GEAR if using the clutch and on as much as FOURTH GEAR without using the clutch at all. That's not kid-friendly! After that bike I changed to a 2002 KX85 model (bought it in late 2003 so it was kinda cheap) and that bike was a lot more constant, it lacked that actually dangerous spirit of the old YZ80. Of course the bike was better because of the typical improvements through the years (geometry, suspension, brakes, clutch...) but nothing quite like the _higher stage_ of the YZ80, that was so fun!
@RyanMcIntyre
@RyanMcIntyre 8 лет назад
+Diego Ruiz Yamaha 80s don't use powervalves like the Kawi, that's why you have a light switch powerband. Pretty typical of a two-stroke without modern improvements. I actually like them that way, but I'm also a masochist when it comes to dirtbikes.
@DiegoRuiz1991
@DiegoRuiz1991 8 лет назад
Ryan McIntyre Going on the higher range on my YZ80 was for masochistic kids. It was like if the bike went from being a PW50 to a YZ125 in only like 1500rpm, from cruising to racing in the blink of an eye

Steve puts a lot of time and effort into these rebuilds, it would be nice to see a more in-depth review of these things. Maybe vs. a contemporary bike or maybe just have a more enthusiastic attitude about presenting them. I love the fact that Racer X is doing these "blast from the past" segments but could you stop phoning in the shake down please? And put Steve to work doing this full-time.. PulpMX
