Wait for the Metallic Dragonborn, the Metallic Breath Weapon usage isn't pooled in with the regular elemental Breath Weapon uses, it's separate; I think the wording in Fizbans says, 'once you use your Metallic Breath Weapon, you can’t do so again until you finish a long rest', similar to the flying feature for Gem Dragonborn
My impression reading the metallic dragonborn is the second breath weapon is independent of the main breath weapon. With a proficiency bonus of 3 you get 3 normal breaths and one extra disabling breath per long rest
25:00 This isn’t really the case, fire is easily the one of the worst as it has 147 creatures resistant or immune to it while necrotic only has 47. If you really want the worst option, it’s poison with 197 creatures resistant or immune to it. Love the video though, the buffs to the Dragonborn were absolutely necessary.
It’s great that Dragonborn are getting an official “balance patch” to give these scaly bad boys a fresh coat of paint. You guys made a great point that it’s awesome that the Dragonborn breath weapon and other features FEEL more fun and impactful at the table. The best quality of life improvement is that you can use your breath weapon to replace an attack instead of all of your attacks. Great episode guys!

Always great guys. For the (slightly weaker) Chromatic is a 30’ line - the others reach out only 15 feet. So if you are mobile enough you can hit 2 at a shot and keep others off of you with the slightly better distance. Consider a Bear Barbarian Emerald Dragonborn. You resist everything, can fly over to your target using psychic screams (aka a breath weapon). I am old schoolNot that is a intimidating. Be well guys
Recommend " homebrewing " that your dragonborn can CHOOSE for any of the three types/ families to either use line OR cone, depending on the situation⚠️ Also something that should have been in Fizban ToD is an updated Draconic Sorcerer Bloodline Ancestry with added Gem dragon dmg types/ resistances to the roster of Chromatic and Metallic ancestries. The Gem ones being: Necrotic, Force, Psychic, Radiant and Thunder
Haven't had a chance to try it, but I have toyed around with the idea of a Shadow Dragonborn. It needs flushing out, but roughly speaking it'd have stealth and deception proficiencies, darkvision that would improve eventually to include magical darkvision and a breath weapon that scales in some degree with proficiency that doesn't do damage, but rather causes a cone of darkness to envelop the area. Begins as normal darkness, scales to magical darkness. Being a gaunt, sketchy looking bounty hunter of a Gloomstalker Ranger from the Shadowfell? Gimme that noise all day.
So i know this is a late comment and things may have changed in the year since this vid was posted, but I do have a list for the dragon breath weapons from least resisted or immune to most. Force 10 Radiant 31 Thunder 36 Psychic 124 Acid 134 Necrotic 179 Lightning 247 Fire 325 Cold 338 Poison 616 So, by mechanical points, the Amethyst Dragonborn has the least resistances or immunities to its breath weapon, while green has the most BY FAR. And unlike most, it actually has mostly IMMUNITIES. Yeah, so many monsters, 531 according to the page i got this info from, are IMMUNE to poison. Necrotic is actually middle of the road total, while yes being the most resisted/immune of the Gem Dragonborn its still better than all but 2 metallic and chromatic dragonborn, those being Black and Copper.
