The story goes that Rachel saw Vilray playing jazz guitar in some club, and she later approached him and said she wanted in. I get the vocal resemblance to Amy Winehouse, but the first voice that popped into my mind when I heard her was Peggy Lee. Together, Rachel and Vilray remind me a little of Les Paul & Mary Ford. Such comparisons are really only good for trying to describe the sound to friends who haven’t heard them yet. Their sound is all their own.
Aside from the great musicianship, here's what I like: No fancy lights, no "fancy" screen shots, just a straight on view of the performers. Producers/directors take note: 3K+ likes!!!! Should tell you something!
I was in a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT ACCOUNT PROFILE, but switched so that I could comment on this video. Often times social media (youtube included) recommends channels that you neither understand why you received the recommendation, NOR did you care for (or outright HATED) the recommendation. This was such a pleasant exception. Rachael is beautiful and can SING!!! But, as a musician myself, I had to turn my focus BACK onto Vilray. He softly and gently MURDERED that guitar. He was a reminder of how so many great performers can go relatively unnoticed. They are both WORLD CLASS talents. John Ventura stated it well in his comment by terming their performance "magic". I will definitely be looking for more from these two!
I encountered this video by chance, I thought, oh yes yet another mediocre RU-vid video. But then they started, what a great voice and style she has, and how good the guitarist is. I'm hooked ! I love how Vilray comps after he gets lost playing the solo. Brilliant !
