He took the memory into a recording session that same day and asked his band if any of them had heard the song before. None of them had, so they recorded it. Several other artists have recorded it since, including Emmylou Harris who kills it so sweetly. True talent is a gift.
This was an o.k. version. I could do without a "video" and perhaps hear them sing it live. If anything this may make the younger kids take a look a who Townes is..... a friggin legend.

Jamey got into an accident a few years back. He slipped an fell on the ice and hit his head pretty hard after a recording session. According to him, he can play and sing all of his previously written music. However, his creative side was greatly damaged. This has also caused him to have bouts of depression ,anxiety, and paranoia. I trust he will find his way again.
Jamie Johnson is alive & available to see & hear, he tours as an independent outlaw now. You dont hear him on radio anymore but that's just fine with me b/c I dont listen to the radio anymore! Who needs em?? Surely ain't me. & would rather see him in the up close & personal atmosphere the clubs & smaller venues bring anyway, that setting is soooo much better than any 10, 20, 30 thousand seat arena ever could be

I agree, as a huge Townes Van Zandt fan. Lovely singing. I’m nitpicking here, but I wish they had looked at each other when they sang, rather than appear as if they were total strangers. I dunno ... maybe I’m way off base. But the lyric is so intimate that it might have been even more effective if they sang directly to each other?

This is a beautiful song. I wish I had heard it before now because it's perfect fitting when I lost my baby boy. I think of him every time I hear this song. I miss him right to this moment and he's been gone since 1981.

Amazing deeply emotional song writer, Mr Townes Van Zandt- I was honored to care for him in Austin, Texas in late 80s early 90s when his health was quite poor- loved to listen to his poignant stories behind some of his songs.

Love Townes VZ, too...and he has recorded with Emmylou also. They are great together and that Townes, Bob Dylan, Gram Parsons, and The Band era.
