Great review! I loved how you examined so many aspects of what can make a poem great, while acknowledging your biases and explaining the forms that you like. I have been a fan of Rachel for years and really boggle at her seemingly limitless creativity. In my take on the final poem you highlighted "Romb" The stanza ending with "Who wants an old used room anyway" struck me as a dig on purity culture. "How many people have been in the room" is How many 'partners' have you had? Did you just not conceive or did you{Shock! Horror!} abort. And ending on the "No one will want you as a permanent partner if you have had multiple previous relationships(the old used gum/band-aid analogy) I look forward to more of your work next year, have a great hol!

So like visual texture in a picture can lead the eye across it, the rhythm and rhyme can do the same thing. When used with intention the break of the pattern becomes a focal point, drawing your attention to those words and flavoring the experience. It's always good to read or listen to poetry that can play with this.

Goosebumps throughout allll this video. It’s weird to say but I think Rachel must be one of the best poets of our generation. If she wasn’t a RU-vidr and lived Sylvia Plath days she would be an icon. I don’t know this might seem too much to say but never felt this touched by poetry

How does that first poem sound like parts of my childhood? An almost perfect mirror. And maybe it is my past but when I saw the title The Puppetmaster I immediately knew it would be about how the abused turn into puppets. Even if they aren't literally controlled in how they act by the abuser. There's always an element of fear and uncertainty that comes with it, not to mention isolation (the abuser doesn't have to actively create it, it's just a lot worse when they do). And I was reminded of those reviews Rachel did on those circus based books a while ago. The Puppet Master was very abusive in there as well in a very controlling way (from what Rachel said, I haven't actually read the books and I've only watched the reviews of two of the books). The house-body analogue is stronger. I think it's something subconscious too. I once dreamt that my house was on fire and couldn't get out and then woke up with a high fever. And I will now go and see if I can get a copy of this poetry collection. Rachel already inspired me to write some poems in the past so maybe I just need to try and have a bit of confidence in my skill again. I do want to finish the stories in verse I started/plotted. Maybe this'll be a great motivator :)

@@tintinaus Not entirely. It does and doesn't. I have ADHD and am on the spectrum so there's often a lot blocking me. From just general issues with task initiation to having no mental energy left for the day. The ideas are always there and sometimes they come out in clearer inspiration and I write them down. Rachel just was there at the right time a couple of times to get me past that task initiation block at a time when I had good inspiration. She's a great person (at least the parts I can see online. It's still all a parasocial relationship after all).

@@thelonleyUchiha1 she shamed me in one of her RU-vid videos when she knows I struggle with my mental health and are in a vulnerable state because I was asking her questions about why she didn’t want kids and she didn’t like my opinions so she shamed me for it! I don’t think this is the type of person we need on RU-vid atm we need people who are open to other perspectives and respectful of peoples boundaries and mental health issues
