Don’t miss this special opportunity to hear Academy Award® winning actress Rachel Weisz and the woman she plays in the compelling new film “Denial”: acclaimed author and historian Deborah E. Lipstadt, whose real-life experiences inspired “Denial.” Lipstadt’s book of the same name recounts her court battle to prove the Holocaust actually occurred after British historian David Irving sued her for libel when she declared him a Holocaust denier. “Denial,” which opens September 30, is directed by Emmy Award® winner Mick Jackson, adapted for the screen by BAFTA and Academy Award® nominated writer David Hare and also stars Tom Wilkinson and Timothy Spall.

You are entitled to your own opinion but not your own facts. Look at the documents. Irving distorts and twists them into a reflection of his own fantasy. You are all spouting nonsense.

And you came this conclusion how, exactly? By reviewing his body of work? Or film night with Barry Norman?

Get up and dance at my party I'm not sure why I'm even responding to you, since you seem to be unclear about the definition of document, and you are talking about a different issue. Still...estimated statistics are estimates. Of course they vary. For example, the number of people killed in the Nanjing Massacre is estimated at various numbers up to 400,000. The mostly widely accepted figure is 200,000, but again, it's an estimate, not a document or a fact. The fact is that the Nanjing Massacre happened. The reasons for it, the conclusions to be drawn from it, any number of issues connected with it are matters of opinion (with varying degrees of being informed), and open to debate. The fact of the Massacre is not. Draw your own parallels.

We can argue about the Battle of the Bulge, Stalingrad, the carpet bombing of cities, the Battle of Austerlitz, or Gettysburg. We can debate about any historical event except one. Why?
@caroltsang7985
@caroltsang7985 8 лет назад
Larry Ranney Actually, people don't argue about whether or not those events happened. And as for "being able to"...isn't that what people are doing here?

Because a country and an entire and profitable belief system has been created because of that. if you doubt about the Battle of Omdurman or Mogadishu, no problem, they are poor Africans without a State, but when you question the golden egg chicken...its not anymore an historical moment, its a passed event that cant be put in doubt, and that is called a religion, a cult.

I never understood this. Deborah Lipstadt refused to debate David Irving, denying herself the opportunity to put him in his place and prove him wrong. I heard her explanation why & it sounded weak and cowardly.

@@samuel9skinner Of course realty is nuanced. Raul Hilberg, Lipstadt's star witness, failed miserably for all the world to see. Irving stupidly sued for defamation.

Good things come to those who wait, and it's beautiful to see them coming already, pulling out all the stops, effervescent and free. Aren't you glad you're living in these times? You young people in particular, do away with all that hoping and moping and DO, just DO! Someday it's YOU that will be called 'the best generation'. Deep inside, you know I'm right.

Thank you for this profoundly moving interview about one woman - Deborah Lipstadt, who made a difference and, on a personal level for Rachel Weisz, one man who made a difference--James Parkes. Wikipedia describes him well as an Anglican clergyman, historian, and social activist and lists his prolific writing including 23 books, "among them The Conflict of the Church and the Synagogue (1934), his magnum opus."

this movie isnt anything but a propaganda peice, they even tell you this in the main trailer for the movie, where she REFUSES to debate ANYONE on the subject, and then they use a little trick by comparing with other conspiracies such as flat earth, and "elvis is dead" that in its self is a tactic to make people assume its as ridiculous to question the events of WW2 on the same level as the death of elvis, i mean look at the new declassified trail documents, look at the new show on the history channel Hunting Hitler, if they lied to us about hitler dying in berlin, what else are they lying to us about as far as the history of WW2.
