Not true! This student Yunchan Lim played cold colorless dry piano sound Rach concerto no 3 in the Cliburn Finals! Dimitri Bashkirov her teacher Anastasia Virsaladze teach saying to Bashkirov the most important lesson is the love of beautiful colorful piano sound! This was already in 1930s! Really Shocking!! All the modern players are cold colorless piano sound players like Kissin Hamelin Pletnev Zimerman and latest hype student Yumchan Lim! All the colorful beautiful piano sound players are gone dead like Emil Gilels Wilhelm Kempff Radu Lupu Artur Rubinstein Vladimir Ashkenazy! This student Yunchan Lim not the best Rach concerto no 3 player like the better ones like Horowitz Cliburn( much better than Yunchan Lim) Gavrilov( more colorful and genius than Yunchan Lim!) Ashkenazy( volcano colorful sound!) Argerich( fire and passion better than Yunchan Lim!) Sokolov( more Titanic than YimchanLim!) Mogilevsky Beonfman Gilels( so colorful better than student Yunchan Lim!)

@@RaineriHakkarainen Yunchan's Rach 3 is among the top 3 that I've ever heard, and I've heard all of the greats. His use of pathos, the colors, the pedaling, the speed, the dynamic range, and the precision are almost beyond criticism... It amazes me that amateur critics like Mr. Rainer continue to insult this fantastic young MAESTRO due to jealousy and lack of education. Imo, Rachmaninoff's Rach 3 is the standard. And Bronfman, Sokolov and Horowitz are among the greatest interpreters of the Rach 3. But I would put Yunchan's interpretations at nearly the same level as the Horowitz/Ormandy 1930 performance, and at or above that of Gilels, Ashkenazy, Argerich, Gavrilov, Trifonov and Pletnev. I say this as a classical concert pianist who's been studying and teaching classical piano for over 55 years...

Don't reply to RaineriHakkarainen. I've seen this guy spread his stupid hate comments (with their distinctive lack of punctuation) on many other videos. He's hopeless, please ignore him.

Thanks for including the score here. When I listen to Yunchan playing I tend to forget how totally demanding the scores he's learned from actually are, and the practice and tasks he has undertaken to interpret and to be able to memorise every little nuance in them is mind-blowing. His accuracy is wonderful. He is a very complete musician.

The maturity of his playing at 18 is really incredible. Though I still think that Bronfman has the greatest performance ever that can be viewed here. I think that Lim eventually takes that title. But not yet.

He does. Beethoven 4, Schumann Piano Concerto, Liszt Transcendental Etudes, Scriabin Poems, Scriabin Second Sonata, Liszt Dante Sonata, Liszt Legende No. 1 & 2, Liszt Sonetto 104, Liszt Liebestraum No. 3, All Chopin Etudes, Chopin Nocturne No. 2 & 20, and a lot of Bach works.

@@Pogouldangeliwitz Did Horowitz, Argerich, Sokolov or Pollini play Ligeti or Sciarrino? Yet, you seem to worship these great pianists... Btw, Horowitz became a legend from his monumental interpretation of the Rach 3. Yunchan may not be at Horowitz's status yet. But I predict he will surpass Horowitz in 10 years...
@Pogouldangeliwitz
@Pogouldangeliwitz 4 месяца назад
@@tonyventura4605 Horowitz popularized Scarlatti and Clementi (and Czerny). Played Barber and Prokofiev and Poulenc when they were the Ligetis and Sciarrinos of their time. Argerich plays A LOT of chamber music. Sokolov plays Rameau. Pollini played Boulez and Stockhausen (and tried to play Sciarrinos piano concerto). Whom did that talented young man whose name I've already forgotten rediscover, popularize or championship yet again? Oh right, Liebestraum and Rekthree. And the Chopin Etudes, who were in dire need.
