@@connorrichardson368 As is the case with most pianists today - I know for a fact that some of their favourite beverage prior to taking stage include vodka!
it is quite interesting that he almost completely re-wrote the piece with different texture and slight different rhythmic pattern from the original piano part. This transcript almost sounds like a prelude which Rachmaninoff would have written himself
Of all pianists today only Volodos could make the cello line (and his own added counterpoint) sing so eloquently thru a rich tissue of pianistic texture Rach+..! Very nice to see this version, even if he slightly exaggerates here his own ultra-expressive style.
An oh-so-lovely Rach melody so richly transcribed and performed that one has to believe that The Master himself would be highly pleased. Where o where is Volodos today?
that chromatic flourish at 5:21 evokes the image of a swarm of fragments of broken glass spinning and flying high into the air, reflecting colors of light in all directions, culminating at 5:27 and then reassembling themselves into a mirror which is the Eb chord at the very end.
That is similar to how I have always thought of the piano entrance in the Intermezzo of Rachmaninov 3. Shattered glass - and when the chaos settles, that expansive and sublime melody.
Volodos must have been Inspired by the Holy Spirit to compose something as "Sublime" as this...It transcends earth as much as any art expression can here...
check out my Rachmaninoff (I am the pianist) on my channel. Theres a little-known song by him I include (no singer included). Can anyone tell me what it is? Go on - let's see how good your early Rachmaninoff is..
Merci Arcadi Volodos
@@christophera3330 then I'd genuinely appreciate it if you could tell me where to find it, because when I played it all I could find was a crappy internet copy with lots of obviously wrong notes and I ended up transcribing the entire thing by ear
