This sail across the Bay of Biscay was a race against time, against weather. We were pushing the boat…pushing ourselves. All in pursuit of safe harbour.

I always enjoy your way of videoing your adventures. It kept the adrenalin levels high until the (somewhat abrupt) end... Now I have to wait for the conclusion episode. Thanks for sharing. Cheers.

My bet is you will be fine...harbors are where you want to be in a gale. Tighten that leach line and experiment with moving the cars...Nice drama build-up perhaps some grog...?

Great video, thanks for posting. I don’t get it either. I have a 34 foot boat and need a winch to trim my headsail too. Do you have a leech line on your staysail? Trimming it helps reduce the flutter on my headsail. A little scary fiddling with it while I’m underway, but only needed adjusting once and has been fine ever since.

Hey SV Delta Jean, We do have a leech line on our staysail, and I bet that’s it! I can’t believe I didn’t think of that. Thank you! I’ll adjust it and if it works better then I’ll show that in an upcoming video and thank you again.🙏👍🏼

@@drakeParagon I’ve been watching and enjoying your videos for years. If my suggestion helps to solve the issue, it’s the least I could do.

My staysail does that when the halyard is to tight.

btw why are you tethered in a fully enclosed cockpit
@drakeParagon
@drakeParagon 3 месяца назад
Thank you asking. Great question. Our cockpit enclosure is made of stainless steel posts and a fiberglass hard top frame. The rest of it is made of canvas and strata glass. The canvas and strata glass holds up great to wind, even very strong wind, but it’s no match for waves. I think it extremely important to be clipped in, and not have a false sense of security in the cockpit, because if a big wave hits, then the enclosure will get bashed apart. When we got into a storm sailing from Greenland to Iceland, we got hit by a rogue wave that took out the port side of the enclosure and swamped the cockpit with 100 gallons of water, which took forever to drain out. Luckily, no one was actually in the cockpit when it happened. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ZzbAqP36WJY.htmlsi=9xKTKYpub2p-PgB4 I know of another boat that was not so lucky some years ago. Two aboard. Bad weather. The wife was on watch in the cockpit which had an enclosure similar to ours. The husband was down below sleeping. She wasn’t clipped in. And they got hit by a wave that took out the enclosure and washed her overboard. Especially in bad weather, we wear our tethers on watch in the cockpit. Our cockpit is even designed so that you can clip your tether to the boat before you exit the cabin and come out into the cockpit.
