It is a standard Shimano crankset but does have a custom chain ring to make the right hand timing chain work. The set up is made by Duratec tandems and works really well but your frame does need to be built to have the clearance at the chain stays to clear the chain ring. Thanks! Those were White Industries hubs laced to Nox Falkor rims. There are a handful of options that can work well for tandems though. Feel free to reach out if you ever want to talk more about wheels!

I have the same tandem bike. It uses a special small chain ring that is machined to include a timing chain ring as well. I find this design superior as it doesn’t make the bottom bracket of the Stoker twist and flex so much like the comotion tandem. If you do not want to go with the custom small chain ring, You can run a regular 2x crankset and use the small chain ring as your timing sprocket, and treat the whole system as a 1x. I have done this on my previous tandem bike and it works great. Only downfall is, you’ll need a large cassette in the rear to get a granny gear.

Thanks! It was an aluminum frame with a carbon Duratec fork. We never did think to grab the complete weight but it felt surprisingly light for an aluminum tandem!

It just has a third chain ring mounted to the rear crankset which runs up to the front crank via timing chain. They work pretty well but the frame definitely has to be designed around that set up so you have clearance for the chain ring.

This bike got shipped to California otherwise I would try to get more video of it.

Not on most tandems but Davinci makes a kit that allows the riders to coast independently that seems to work well www.davincitandems.com/best-tandem-bicycle-drivetrain/
