Ruby - a favourite recurring member of the BikeRadar RU-vid team - is almost certainly the world’s most famous trail dog and is definitely the world’s fastest. With a top speed of over 40mph clocked, this 6 year old Hungarian Vizsla is a serious piece of equi-paw-ment.
Wanting to take a notch off of her hard-earned glory, Jack and Joe thought it would make for a fun afternoon to try racing her in a number of mountain bike challenges. However, the pair needed more firepower than their little legs could muster if they were to stand a chance of beating her.
Calling on the assistance of series sponsor, Giant, the pair chose to ride a Trance E+3 Pro to give them the extra oomph required to try and stay on Ruby’s tail.

My 10 year old Vizla still loves to run and play, runs like she is 5, but her leg has arthritis. slows her down a bit, but when shes having fun she will push thru that pain and play ball, chase squirrels, or run after my car when i leave lol

We lost our Vizsla on December 5, 2019 at almost 15 1/3 years old up to the last day of her life she was a going concern - loved to run and hunt.

OMG what a nice video. I had a Vizsla named Ruby as well who unfortunately passed away from cancer cancer 2 months ago at age 6. We loved her so much and she was an amazing dog. So great to see your vizsla running on the trail. Yes they are fast. I used to take my girl down a grass runway 2-3 times a day but used my ATV as she could blow me away on a bike. They LOVE running and are the most amazing and gentile dogs. Enjoyed your video and almost cried bringing back all my memories.

The dogs biggest advantage is they're not affraid of loosing grip. They do slip occasionally, but they generally don't give a paw if they'll wipe out. :-)

endurance dogs? Vizslas (The dog in the video), weimaraner, dalmation (depending on the lines/breeder), german short haired pointers. there a mixes bred specifically for dog pulling sports like sled pulling, canicross, bikejoring etc

@@punisherisms Most cannot. The word vizsla contains 2 difficult letters: zs (which is one letter, not z and not s) and a. Zs is pronunciated like in measure, treasure, pleasure. A is not your English 'a' but (according to etymologists) rather a transient sound between English 'a' and 'o'. You can listen to Hungarian videos about the vizsla and can check how it is said in them.

Vizslas are a great trail dog. They have an innate need to be 20-100ft ahead of you, like they have FOMO over whatever you're checking out so they never want to be behind you, but are too clingy to wander too far ahead or off course. Great speed and endurance too, and great obedience if there's any hazards you want to keep them away from. I started taking mine on trails off leash when she was only 4 months old and there were no issues, and she's still a great trail dog now at 11 years.

It was obvious that the dog was not just hungry but starving, it makes you wonder if the owner feeds her only a small amount of food in order to keep her in top shape. It’s what they do to greyhounds which is beyond cruel, I hope it’s not the case for Ruby!

I'm sure Maggie and Ruby are both fast; they look like they're both in great shape, but I'm a bit skeptical that either one is actually over 40 mph. I would say most coursing bred whippets can't hit the 40 mph mark and even greyhounds have to be in really good shape to crack 40mph.

@@willc5979 Maybe downhill with a 40 mph tail wind. I've helped out with electronically-timed 100m dog sprinter events for the last two years...never seen a Vizsla, Gsp, Weimaraner, or any other pointing breed crack the 35 mph mark. I own a Vizsla , and she's fast....for a dog....and I know they're considered one of the fastest non-sight hound dogs....but I'll take this guy's other 5000 dollars if he wants to say this dog can hit 43 mph on the flat....no way....haven't even seen a greyhoud hit 43 mph on a flat 100m distance yet and when you see a dog run at 37-38 mph, it's crazy fast. 43 mph claim is silly.

up here near Calgary - the trail runners often go for long 3 or more hr runs - up and down the Rocky Mtns - running steep terrain downhill - wow - the dogs are often flying!! faster than runners - plus - they often explore off the trails - added mileage

our male viz is 9 this summer...a few summers back he was trailing me on a down hill section and licking my sweaty knee as I coasted at about 35mph.... he was comfortably in his zone, cantering along!

My shepherd mix is an amazing trail dog. 20+ miles was nothing when she was younger. My dog learned to follow behind me too. She would move off to the side and let me pass. Best bike dog ever! A dog in front can be really dangerous. I love seeing other trail dogs.

hungarian vislo, is that spelled right? I have a husky/aussie mix and I tried taking him on a bike ride but he is definitely not built like ruby. That's ok I'm a fat biker with a fat dog and a fat belly, hahaha. WOWOW that was so cool to watch her RUN...SO FAST.

Problem with E-bikes here in Washington State they are not legal on almost all the popular trails. The bike shops won't tell you that when they take your $6k.

I have a weimaraner, pretty similar breed. When it was younger I took her twice a day out. Firm 8km run in the Morning and fast 5km biking in the afternoon. The rest of the day it would Patrol in the garden chasing mice & lizards.

Assuming your ebikes speed limit is 25km/h i dont see the point of using them for non-technical flat/downhill tracks. Great video as always :D

Lovely dog! Ruby would be running well above the 25km limit of the ebike so after the initial acceleration on that flat trail, there wouldn't be much assistance. I think a normal mtb would have been faster, Emtbs are for hills. Great video and well done Ruby!

I was wondering whether they were speed-limited at all, given that they are above the (European) 250w power limit anyway. If they have to be taken to the trail in a van, why bother putting a speed limiter on? So what would ~800w (500 + say 300) get you? 30mph maybe? Oh, and 40 min battery life but you can't have everything :-)

I would put my springer spaniel up against Ruby any day on a proper trail. I’ve never seen a more efficient anything on the trails as my Dex at top speed. Just insane. 🙌🏻🐶🙌🏻
