Racism in the UK against INDIANS | Part 2 | Important Video for Foreign Students

So we've been receiving a lot of messages recently regarding safety and racism issues in the UK. Somebody sent a message to our Instagram about wanting to come to the UK for studies but that they are really fearful of moving here and so are their parents.
In his video we address these concerns by having a discussion with our British friend Andrew. The UK welcomes hundreds of thousands of international students every year. There are many prestigious universities here, which are in the top ranking world wide, including Oxford University and Cambridge University. Most students enjoy their time in the UK but we advise potential students to do their research about where they are choosing to live. As in any other country, there are areas of the UK that are less desirable and have higher levels of crime, especially towards non-white people. However, we want to assure you that the UK has a good justice system and that police can easily be contacted by ringing 999 if you need help. Most areas of the UK are safe for Desi people to live but please do your research before you move here.
Racist attacks
In 1919, there were large-scale racist attacks on 'coloured' communities in London, Manchester, Liverpool, Hull, South Shields as well as parts of Scotland and Wales. There were other large-scale attacks in Liverpool in 1948, in Nottingham and Notting Hill in 1958 and at other times and places throughout the century since 1918.
One of the most well-known racist murders is that of teenager Stephen Lawrence in 1993. There have been many murders in the past, including, Akhtar Ali Baig in East Ham in 1980. Kelso Cochrane was also murdered in Notting Hill in 1959 and Charles Wootton, in Liverpool in 1919.
Racist practices, policies and politics
Although migrant workers have been vital for the growth of Britain's economy and public services, racism has sometimes been widespread. There was the 'colour bar' that prevented 'coloured' people obtaining jobs and accommodation, fighting for British boxing titles or even joining the armed services or serving as officers in them. Some laws were openly racist too, such as the 1925 Coloured Alien Seamen's Order or the 1981 British Nationality Act.
There have been openly racist speeches by leading politicians too. Seeking to create divisions and stir up racism Enoch Powell's infamous 'Rivers of Blood' tirade in 1968 is a well-known example. And then there are the activities of politically racist organisations such as the National Front.
Resistance, protest and defence
In response those of African, Caribbean and Asian descent have been forced to find various forms of resistance alongside allies. They organised political actions or demonstrations such as the Grumwick Strike in 1976 and the Black People's Day of Action in 1981 in London. There were various protests against police and racist violence in the 1970s and 1980s.
Sometimes it meant forming defence organisations such as the League of Coloured Peoples and the first Indian Workers' Association established in the 1930s, or the Black People's Alliance in the 1970s. At other times, communities responded by establishing places of refuge and sanctuary. There was the widespread supplementary school movement often favoured in Caribbean communities. There were also centres such as Africa House in Camden in the 1930s, or cultural centres, such as the Drum in Birmingham in the 1990s.
Racism and Resistance
Imperial European powers found ways to justify the barbaric slave system and the invasion, colonisation and expropriation of foreign lands for the expansion of their wealth. Britain amongst them created a hierarchy with white Europeans at the top and Africans and Asians at the bottom. Racism became embedded into the nation's structures of power, culture, education and identity.
People from Africa, the Caribbean and Asia were encouraged by government to come to England. But on arrival here they often faced racism and discrimination, which was not illegal in Britain until 1965.

This is so sad . I have travelled all over India since 1984, alone, with my wife and with my three children on many occasions. The best thing about India is the people , always warm , open , interested and respectful . I spent two months travelling with my young familly on the trains and buses visiting your beautiful country. We all experienced so much kindness and generous invitations into peoples homes My daughter was so miserable when we came back to the uk . Family is revered and cherished in india but kids in the uk are often seen as a nuisance. Im ashamed of my fellow countrymen and their ignorance and racism.

I could understand his concern because not long ago the racism and violent against Indian students in Australia was horrific.

I really appreciate your initiative to make videos containing such useful and great content. I was reading a quote," Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world" this is all I would wish to convey to those who are preparing to start a career or planning higher studies there. I feel bad for our people who face racism and thanx to you for all your support and knowledgeable content..

No harm in learning from other countries though. UK spends a lot of money hiring experts from outside to develop their nation. When you go out you learn but you don’t have to stay. You can bring wealth of knowledge back to your country :)

Hello sir, I got an acceptance letter from Canterbury Christ Church University, UK. I and my family went through the reviews of the Uni which are soo bad. So we canceled the offer and Now I'm in the process of applying to other unis like Manchester Uni, Birmingham uni, etc. My parents are worried about my safety since someone told their daughter's unfortunate life in the UK lol now they are totally against me going to the UK. As I was searching about Racism in the Uk I came across your videos.

Abhinav, I was wrong when I wrote to you that you, as a Hindu, do not have the moral right to condemn Europeans for their discrimination against Hindus, because Indians discriminate against untouchables. Everyone has the right, regardless of nationality, to speak about discrimination. I am grateful to RU-vid for their warning and for deleting my comment as it made me realize where I was wrong! Admitting your mistakes is the path to enlightenment!

I would say London is terrible for violence and racism. Maybe i am to going by the news. But as a British citizen i wouldn't travel to London alone. Even i wouldn't feel safe. I live in a small town in Lancashire and a couple of years ago there was a group walking 5he street shout racist chants. And I'm proud to say the people of my town shut them down. Im not saying the place were i live is perfect. But if your coming here to study stay away from cities. On the flip side of that when your friend mentioned India. I believe Indian citizens are racist against their own people. . As i believe the paler the skin colour the more respectful indian people are to you. Which i find shocking
@ambitiousglue3930
@ambitiousglue3930 Год назад
No sister you are wrong. In olden times this used to be the culture in India where fair skin coloured people were treated more respectfully. But today the situation is completely different. Now knowledgeable and skilful people are more respectable.

It would have been better to interview an Indian who has lived in the UK rather than a white person, as they would be more aware about racism. Generally the racism is more about giving preferential treatment to locals rather than calling names or violence. If you go out drinking in the night stay in groups and avoid getting into arguments with drunk people. Stay away from rough areas esp at night.

i can't imagine indians having much trouble here studying. indians are very much integrated into the society while still staying in their communities for the most part. maybe thi guys family know stories from 20 years, 30 - 40 years ago. some of the violence they talk about, old stories. old trauma. shocked to hear these ideas from the family, actually, despite the racism you still get from some inbreds all over the country.
