Hi! I'm Abhinav, a UK based, Indian filmmaker. In 2018, whilst filming a documentary in Ukraine I met the Roma people for the first time. They thought I was Romani too but soon realised that I was from India. We immediately had a connection. I fell in love with the Romanis and later found out about their connection with India. Over the last 5 years, I have travelled to different countries and spent time with them. After producing the first video about them I felt I wanted to give them a voice by telling their stories. Roma people have faced persecution ever since they arrived in Europe. The condition for Romas is better than it was when they arrived but they are still discriminated against. I want to meet these people and tell their stories. If you would like to support my vision, you can join my Patreon. It will allow me to travel and bring forth stories that need to be brought to light. Thank you :)

Well I expect they like the whole magical gypsy drinking gambling rebel stereotypes but it isn't real or relevant to traditional or modern challenges. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-CZRqz-aNoDU.htmlsi=I3G-dMFOkY47jx44

I think your interview technique is not quite right. Approaching somebody and asking them whether they know their origins could be intrusive or unnerving or even offensive. Romas are a discriminated and marginalised lot of people in Europe. They manage to cling to their ways of life against all odds. They may even be trying hard to hide their ethnic identities. Asking them about their separateness in front of camera could unnerve them. So please be careful. Not all countries in Europe are open and democratic.
आप जैसे लोगों की ज़रूरत है दुनिया में...love you Abhinav bhai and all the Roma around the world ❤

Nice documentary. I admire Roman / Gipsy people, specially because of their musical sensibility and creativity. In fact I play guitar and my Idol is Django Reinhardt, a Belgian/French guitar player that was a celebrity in 1920-40s, in european jazz (DjangoStyle/Gipsy Jazz). I lv also flamenco, very much.
I have known Roma all my life and I’ve had them as friends and neighbors That said, there’s a new batch from Bulgaria that are out in groups, robbing stores and supermarkets, and it’s really hard to deal with. This is not a stereotype. This is a reality that I have to deal with. I understand that in 2024 we can never honestly express ourselves if it implies confronting a stereotype after encountering it in practice. There is a lot to be said about people becoming conditioned into believing that they have an identity. It’s as if society molds them into being a stereotype, or maybe they mold themselves. I’m not trying to annoy anyone. This is just an observation. I personally was raised as a member of one culture and later in my life I discovered that I wasn’t from that culture all the baggage that with my initial identity was very hard to get rid of in fact, I can never get rid of it. I adopted it when I was a child and somehow built my personality around it now that I know that was never my culture it seems almost slapstick.
The meaning can be summarised in pillars; the main pillar representing the polar ideas of baxt (pronounced [baxt], bah-kht) meaning 'honour' and ladž (or laʒ, pronounced [ladʒ], lah-j) meaning 'shame'. It is honourable, in some Romani cultures, to celebrate baxt by being generous and displaying your success to the public
