Racism Jokes - Bill Maher 

It's always been his style, and his audience know what they're in for. And HBO basically gave him carte blanche on edgy content after they picked him up from ABC.

Push your limits to the limit. His jokes are toned down. He could go much further.

He's a COMEDIAN. It's his job to push the envelope. He's one of the few brave enough in this climate to do so.

They sound risky because they refer to race stereotypes, but it's also very clear he is ridiculing the racists and not the minorities.

He's done this for 40 years

Meine Namen yeah, I really get annoyed when put comments like that. Bill doesn’t need anyone’s confirmation/judgement to be labeled racist or get vindicated. Also, just because someone hangs out with black people, doesn’t guarantee he is a racist or not, Trump is racist, yet he hangs out with Tyson, Snoop dogg, Omarosa and Martha Stewart.

I really wish they'd take the party shift into account and call it what it really is: progressive vs conservative.

Yeah, democrats were definitely the racists up until the 40's or 50's, when that weird ass "party switch" or "shift" thing happened. But democrats were conservatives back then, and republicans were the progressive party. So it's all pretty much the same... CONSERVATIVE RACISM.

They are still democrats and I am still a republican.aybe some of the conservative democrats moved to republicans and vice versa. To be fair the dems do try to keep the ones in poverty in poverty. You can't pay people to do nothing. You will only keep the cycle going.

After Lyndon Johnson passed the civil rights act in 1964 and the Democratic party got behind that issue, all those white southern Democrats became Republican. I wonder why.

It's not only that. For example, poor people get a much harder time getting time off work to vote. Also lines in poorer neighborhoods are longer. Finally, in some places there where armed people near polling places to intimidate.

Its a voter ID not a regular ID. Also, in Alabama and Georgia where these laws were being implemented, the states closed the DMVs in predominantly minorities counties for a while to discourage them from getting IDs. They also ban those with criminal records from voting, couples that with the fact that blacks and Latinos are usually poorer (which has a direct correlation for having higher chances of having a criminal record) and you can see how republicans try everything to discourage these people from voting.

@@svscared Reconstruction was done by Republicans. Black Senators and Representatives were ALL Republicans. Black people who voted were almost all Republican. This is well into the 1930s and well after the Civil War. Democrats began to male inroads with the New Deal, the first of the gigantic welfare programs. FDR would not have been able to pass this BS without some Southern Democratic votes. Southern Blacks were grateful and started supporting many of the politicians. Thats why the Dixiecrats were born, who created Jim Crow. Only a few later became Republicans.

So what. All part of the same narrative. Please don't try to act like the parties didn't switch ideologies because that would be disingenuous.

Patrick S While it’s true that southern democrats were for segregation at the time of the Rosa parks incident, they views of the political parties have swapped. People who are racist against African Americans today vote for republicans. So when he says republicans (as in the people who are republican today), they’re the same as the southern democrats who supported Segregation laws.
