Angry Black adults come from being raised by neglectful/abusive adults and broken homes. We have areas in only 27% White Baltimore where Blacks virtually never interact with Whites. Yet they are slaughtering each other nonstop. They literally frisk for weapons at Black clubs. (Of course then they kill each other outside).
And the IMMEDIATE and long term NEGATIVE effects that has on someone's... EVERYTHING. Jane Elliot, 3rd graders days after Dr Martin Luther king's murder... look it up. Spend 90min telling a child they're inferior to a peer and they want to lash out, hide, recoil, and forget how to spell words, read or do math as well as they did just 24hrs earlier. Multiply that by a lifetime... 😪😪😪
Just for perspective: as a 9 year old "little white man" I walked around my neighborhood with a hammer and a saw collecting dead branches. One of my neighbors saw me cutting a low hanging branch from a tree in front of their house, walked out, greeted me and asked what I was up to? (in a pleasant, non accusatory tone). I told him I was collecting branches to build a fort. He then opened up his side gate where he had a pile of various size branches and asked if any of them would work for my fort. No cops were called. There is ABSOLUTELY a difference in how children of color are treated in this country. It's sickening.
It is.. and the truth of the matter is this… unless you are straight out of Africa ( untainted by slavery in America 🇺🇸) more likely than not…. The fear is that black and brown people will have power and the majority and that they will treat and do to them what they did and continue to do to black and brown people. That’s their fear.,That black people will be as evil and ungodly as they are.
It turns out that the 9 year old is more informed and more responsible than the old man. Imagine an old man scared of a 9 year old. This paranoia is an epidemic in some circles.
I'm pretty sure he wasn't scared, pretty sure he knew it was a child not a "little woman", and pretty sure that he didn't add "black wearing a hoodie" for naught.
It's not hard to fear people that you've done wrong for so many centuries. You're surrounded by them. You would think that a 70 year old racist would have changed by now. Only the Lord can change his heart before he dies. You don't want to die with hatred in your heart because if you do you end up in a terrible and horrifying place.
Because asking a child what they're doing and praising them for their dedication is so much harder than calling the police, making a fuss and upsetting the neighbours........
The sad part it will affect her I can almost guarantee that. I'm 41 and I'm still affected by my run-ins with the police. I have never been to jail in my life but my encounters with them are not good. The stories I can tell you about what happened to me as an adolescent and a teenager when dealing with the police are crazy. And I wasn't the type of child that did things I wasn't supposed to. But they would always treat me as if I was an adult even though I have always looked younger than I was. But as an adult, I don't have many problems with them cause I avoid them.
Her passion may not change but her approach will. I notice that white people are more likely to mistake me as a technician rather a intern pharmacist at work though my badge and white coat clearly marks my position. I’ve even gotten a “you people” from not wanting to sell pharmacy behind the counter stock by a white woman when she could get it from the aisle. I’ve never seen the pharmacist I was working with move that quickly that day, no nonsense allowed. I thought at first was my age not wanting to jump to race because while I’m in my 20s I look younger than my age, but that’s not it because I get the “I’m happy to see our people as pharmacists” from our older black population and even Latinos funny enough. I purposely don’t wear scrubs (which is allowed but mandatory for technicians) but business casual clothing under my white coat for this reason.
