I told this story to my Korean and Chinese college students in Korea and they thought it was ridiculous (especially my Chinese students who were all girls) that people would feel offended by it. The idea of cultural appropriation was laughable to them and they had no problem with the girl wearing the dress.

Charles I think there’s more to it no one wants a white person touching there culture because they steal everything. And twist its culture to add themselves in it. Example remember the movie he last samurai a white man saving a nation of Asians. Or the mummy a white man and a few other white casts playing Egyptian or God’s of Egypt. You look at it as if you are personally hurt. But the fact is no one likes white people just everyone has to pretend to. Out of fear of ending up like Black people of America. Example look at some of these Mexicans that are legally here they will say they hate black people why? It’s because they want to win the favor of the upper race. However they ended up getting labeled just like Blacks in America. Or how Muslims got labeled. So long as a white man says someone is bad everyone else views them as bad.

If you’re gonna make the argument that cultures should stay separate then what’s wrong with the white people trying to preserve theirs? Personally, I’m white and believe in multiculturalism. But the fact that you say who cares is an issue. That’s like saying who cares about there beliefs that for that reason is why no one likes white people because they are the only ones that will say things like who cares about wearing this or that who cares about getting that Samoan Tattoo however if you ask the people that hold that dear it’s an issue. Micheal Tull Yea but my Dad was ex-Navy so I had access to really cool bell bottoms, lol! It was the "Beetle Boots" I wouldn't wear! I wore engineer boots hard butt leather, lol! At my age now those boots would kill me! Do ya know why bell bottoms came about? It is actually very functional. My Dad had a couple ship sunk out from under him in WW II those jeans kept him alive! The "bell" jeans were easier to get off in the ocean wet denim will take you under! So the British Navy was smart! But, I gotta' say a lot of fuss over a kids dress? I lived in China and worked with many Chinese people. My Chinese friends liked when I wore their traditional dress. I miss China. People aren't overly sensitive. By the way, Converse shoes are American but they are popular in China. I think it's good to share our differences.
