Sometime I use a pipe heater wrap around accumulator when we go in defrost the heater come on and the reason behind it is to warm up the oil and separate the gas this work really well

I will cover the accumulator in another part, to come. That will explain how the oil SHOULD return from the accumulator. Sounds like your pick up screen is stopped up, if a heater is necessary to get it out. Adding heat to the accumulator is adding heat to your suction, i.e. increasing superheat that your compressors have to digest and your condenser has to reject. That's going to be a loss of efficiency twice.

Don't forget how frequent defrost cycle will also have oil operation how you set your defrost you could also maintain your oil

Also you can lose a lot of oil in the accumulator it happen most of the time there is a lot of oil in accumulator not the liquid receiver we talk about accumulator
