Scan 2D tube barcodes in linear racks as you load them on to your liquid handler.
Rack2D is a computer vision based solution for reading 2D barcoded tubes loaded on linear tube racks.
2D barcodes provide major advantages over the old linear barcodes. They contain much more information besides just a sample ID and are safer to use than the old linear barcodes.
These advantages are being used in small tubes of no more than 2.0ml capacity.
For larger tubes (up to 50mL falcon tubes) there are no good solutions for scanning them. The sometimes leads to labs painstakingly reapplying linear barcodes on already barcoded tubes.
Rack2D provides a solution to the problem. It scans barcodes on the tubes as well as on the tube rack itself while the tube rack is being loaded. It uses the barcodes on the tube rack to determine the position and positively assigns tube barcodes to the correct tubes.
In addition it measures the distance to the tube rack to prevent the user from mistakenly loading tube on the wrong grid.
Rack2D is easy to integrate into any major liquid handler and it is compatible with all major 2D and linear barcodes on tubes.
Rack2D utilizes a high resolution industrial camera with auto focus to enable reading barcodes on a very wide area and can often read barcodes over a range of 6 grids and more. This depends on tube size, barcode size and barcode resolution.
