It definitely depends on the game. So far not impressed but I do think it could end up a great feature if given enough time to evolve.

Hey so I got a Vega 64 and I undervolted it already. Is it ok to try out chill on top of doing that?
@shingdaz

* I think its for people who need to overclock, but OC squeezes too much voltage for the framerates to keep pace with the monitor, possibly turning on CHill and OC 5-10% should create better headrom when OC. Gonna try it out.

Rivatuner is the best for this: 1) Block fps 2) The best frime time ( no stuttering)

I haven't had issues on my AMD build until I enabled Chill. It's been a mixed bag trying to "trick" the thing into working for games not in the "white list". Renaming executables and a few tweaks can apply the thing to games not on the list, but it's really hit or miss. Overclockers might find some use due to the voltage demands but even then meh...

Yeah, chill didn't work for me. Just wasn't a better experience and could be worse.

OK yeah, confirmed that Power Efficiency has no negative affect either way with Team Fortress 2 but if you turn on Radeon Chill, it's really choppy for me.

Why can I acrive "chill" switch but there is no options in the entire menu to setup chip? Global or specific game doesn't change anything, no options. -.-

Tried this with The Witcher 3 and the results are a mixed bag. It works as expected. But at 40 FPS when not moving, the cut scenes will not be at peak FPS. :(

you can set the desired min and max fps

NICE video dude but please answer me: what settings did you have on chill (min/max setting i mean, if you press alt+R in-game and go to chill options you ll see). Because i have a 75hz monitor too and i have the setting changed to 38min-75max and i dont know if it is right. I dont have any problems so far to get stable fps, but i need to know what does this exact setting mean.

I don't use Chill. It really didn't benefit me. Chill just attempts to down clock when you don't need it. :/ If you had a 144Hz or greater FreeSync monitor, I think Chill might actually be good.

if u use a free-sync panel the results are better doe .

Using a FPS limiter is much better tbh. With something RivaTuner set the overall max to whatever your refresh rate is then add games and set individual caps. Most of the time I find that I don't even notice more than 70-80fps, so I set most games to that. The result is the card runs quieter and uses less power because it's not rendering FPS which are no benefit.

This review makes me feel, that you dont understand the purpose of AMD Chill option...

I know what it is. Times have changed tho, and the performance effect may have improved since I did this video. Bottom line is. If you turn it on, and you have a better experience, then keep it.

Ye, there's power consumption upgrade for the both laptops(notebooks) and desktop PC's. The FPS may not be stable, but it does not matter when it jumps between (e.g)60-70... Since your eye don't even recongize the change tho... The electric consumption gets lower and GPU temperature too, since it is not rendering the unnecessary frames. (BUT many aspects yould harm this method, such ambient temperature, the cleanliness of the case - dust, dry dirt etc.)

I've heard people say things like "you can't/won't notice the difference": that is simply not true. I would consider myself a bit sensitive to frame timing and I have a tendency to spend a lot of time tweaking to get the best experience. If this were a test done on a 120Hz+ monitor with a game and resolution that could sustain >110 FPS, then yes, I probably wouldn't notice the difference. But in this example, it's enough of a difference that I never used chill again. You also may have missed that I did test "power efficiency" mode with some level of success that I barely noticed a difference but still ended up reverting to having it off just to ensure I didn't miss a frame or two when it mattered. So in the end, under the right conditions, it would probably be a good idea to turn chill on, but at the time I tested it, it was not providing an effect that was desirable to my gaming.

nah. I dislike CHILL. It pretty much made me under perform. I had shit FPS. Turned power up to 50. Performed like normal. I did not want chill. -.-

This thing is used to minimize fps when you don't need too many to save tons of power, so don't expect it to increase your performance
