We've got a rainy morning of exploration in Skagway, including strolling by a stream, enjoying some coffee, and learning about the history of ivory... then it's time to head back to the ship for lunch as we prepare to sail away to a second port of call in the same day!! :O

Our west coast cruising adventures continue onboard Radiance Of The Seas from Royal Caribbean as we head out on back-to-back 7-day northbound and southbound Alaska loops! We sailed from May 6-20, 2022 out of Vancouver, Canada with stops in Ketchikan, Sitka, Juneau, Skagway, and sailing through Hubbard Glacier before arriving in Seward, Alaska... then back through Hubbard Glacier with stops in Juneau, Skagway, Haines, Icy Strait Point, and Ketchikan before ending back in Vancouver... let's do this thing!

Skagway was my favourite stop in Alaska when we went there on the Carnival Spirit in 2012. The White Pass Railroad scenery is just gorgeous. My parents are in Alaska this week on Princess and my wife and I will be on the Carnival Freedom in a couple of weeks. Our neighbours and good friends just retired and all of us own condos in central Florida. So we're all going on the Freedom (out of Canaveral), as our retirement present to them.

Going to live vicariously thru your vlogs today. This was the day our vacation came to a screeching halt 😭 I didn't find out until the Thursday after this that I wasn't even supposed to leave the ship in Haines after Skagway. Both my son and I were negative and never did test positive. So glad you guys stayed healthy! Thanks for stopping to take a photo when we were in Haines though!!

We loved Skagway so much!! It's such a quaint town and perfect for strolling along to explore...like a little snippet of the past. Have you ever been inside the Red Onion Saloon?? We went there with our family, and let me tell you, the paintings inside are not "family friendly" LOL! Despite this we enjoyed sharing a "Reindeer Fart" shot as a family (our kiddos are adults after all.) My daughter Hannah said "The artwork is a nod at the past of this establishment." Yup.

I enjoyed your brief visit to Skagway. It is one of my favorite ports in Alaska. Too bad about the rain, but you looked like you were prepared for the changing weather.

I did the Ghost and Good time Girls tour that the Red Onion used to run around the town. Learned a lot about the past in Skagway. I don’t see that they offer it right now. We are going back to Alaska September 2023.

Heyo! The pants are Old Navy Stretch Tech and the shoes are non-waterproof Skechers, ha ha. Probably not ideal for a rainy stroll!! :P

Hi Dee and Jay. Watching your Alaska videos more closely to get ideas as to what to pack for my 1st Alaska cruise. Dee is your vest down filled? Shopping for vests and wondering if I should spend the extra on down or will it be too warm in July. I know the weather can change drastically though. Gonna check out Old Navy for those pants too. I don't like to be wet and cold. We may be dressed like twins. LOL

We've eaten Royal's breakfast in the dining room before, but I don't know if we did at all this sailing. Maybe once or twice, but that's about it, ha ha. We usually preferred the quick grab from the buffet, then on with our daily adventure!! :P

Old Navy! They’re super lightweight and waterproof, but you’d need a layer underneath for warmth!! :P

How much weight have you gained on all these cruises? Know when y'all are home you stick to a healthy diet. Not being ugly just want to know how hard a time I'm about to have, Love your videos and all the info.

Nah, it’s a valid question and a real struggle, hah. We do exercise and eat healthy at home, and it can be hard to maintain that on cruises, especially with as many as we do. But we tend to do a lot of hikes and active things while cruising to offset a bit. A lot of cruise weight gain can be water retention, which goes away when we return home and have more control over our salt intake, we’ve noticed. It’s tough to put a number on it, but in the past we used to plan on about a half pound to one pound gain per day on a cruise. Yow!! :P ~Jay

@@parodeejay Many thanks. I'm on a lifestyle program and doing well with it at home but I'm doing the cooking. I'm much older than y'all so my love of walking is not what it once was. I will have to try and do more research before I sail. Years ago many of the lines had a special menu which was called the spa menu..calories etc. I'd hate to have to glue my lips shut before I get on the ship! Thanks again for your reply. PS. Do everything you want to while you're young you'll never regret it..getting older slows down some travel and what you're able to do. So happy my travel days started young. God bless.
