Xavier Bonilla is the host of the Converging Dialogues podcast, and he's here to discuss what it means to be what he calls a "radical centrist". There's a lot of polarization today with little nuance for topics, which makes it difficult to meet in the middle. But are centrists just people playing both sides? That's what Xavier helps us find out.

I tend to feel-in on politics much the way Xavier describes, but his words in this interview galled me too often. I don't know him, so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt when he says things like: he doesn't care about the moral character of politicians, or he can respect Trump for not lying about his immorality. I don't think Xavier deserves a pass on many of the things he's saying here, but the general theme feels right to me: be open, be understanding, don't be mislead by the opinions of others, etc. Having said all that, I lost interest about halfway through because he was undermining the good stuff that I was getting from his point of view. I'm just expressing my personal takeaway for the purpose of advancing the discussion. Thanks, Chris! 👍

Yes it can be problematic. Though I think the idea is id rather have a more truthful immoral person in office than one who wont admit it. Also theres a argument that if we bring too much of morality into politics we get inefective purity spirals. Should we out right ignore immorality? Of course not, but do we really want to have presidents engaging in im holier than thou style debates?

Just sort of commenting as I listen. I like Xavier's approach to extracting value from difficult experiences/suffering. It's an antifragile approach.

Haven't finished yet, but it really makes me sad that Aurelius/Senca Stoicism gets filtered through politics.

Centrism is a sure fire way to not address issues. The advice Xavier gives is good but it's basic common sense and curtosy when engaging with rational civil people. I'm a listener of his podcast and appreciate his content but his attitude towards politics I find problematic. Very interesting guy.

Hence the term radical. Hes not advocating for more of the same. He is advocating for a new mindset that takes hard line stances from either side of the spectrum. I on the contrary find the left or the right dont get much done and the way they conduct political discourse is problematic. When you only use one lens to form your opinions, your perspective becomes too rigid and stale.

The Rewired Soul is not a licensed.. anything. His mother is a drug rehab counselor.. not a licensed psychiatrist. This dude is damaging the mental health community and needs to be stopped. I'm not diagnosing him or anything but it seems he has some narcissistic traits.. that's just my opinion though.

Didnt he say that at the start? Where does he claim to be licensed? Or are you saying he shouldnt have a podcast talking about this stuff unless he has a degree?

@@superidot1 So, you're cool with an unlicensed, uneducated, morally bankrupt person weaponizing mental health struggles by providing a pseudo-diagnosis to RU-vidrs he's never met and who didn't asked to be diagnosed in the first place?
