RADIO CODE - How to reset your Honda or Acura radio code (most models) Quick and Easy 

What if one of my buttons for the code is broken? It’s a 2009 and I’m probably not keeping it much longer , don’t wanna really invest in a new stereo. Thanks

Probably had the radio replaced at some point… that’s why I show how to pull it from the unit

It’s means you have entered the wrong code too many times. Disconnect the battery both terminals for about 2 minutes when reconnected the radio will reset and you can try the code again

Jo McNeilly the radio has to be off first then hold 1 and 6 and turn the radio on... if the radio is not showing anything something internal to unit may be wrong. Does the radio say anything?

The 1 and 6 unless you have navigation. The radio or owners manual may have been replaced the radio is always the correct one

Actually on a 16 I think you can just press and hold the power button

@@kay-jf7wj if you try too many times it will lock you out. You’ll have to disconnect the battery to reset.

Same rules apply but on that old of a car the serial number is actually on the unit itself so you have to remove the audio unit or at least the trim to see the sticker. Once you get the serial number you can call or go online to get the code. Great car by the way also had a 94 ls and a 95 special edition

The quickest and easiest way to reset it, is to disconnect the battery for a few minutes. Once reconnected you can try again.

Bigmama Cooper ok if it shows error you have tried too many times. What you need to do is disconnect the battery for a few minutes then reconnect and it will say enter code then follow these instructions. If you have any issues let me know.

Bigmama Cooper also if you have to use the key to unlock the car if you turn it to the unlock position in the door two times quickly it will stop the alarm

jaime loza ok two different ways you can try to fix that. I would start by resetting your phone. Completely turn it off and back on. If this does not work you will have to do a full static discharge. You will have to disconnect the both battery terminals and leave disconnected for 5-10 minutes then reconnect and enter the code again. This should fix it. Let me know if you need any further help. Hello sorry for the late reply the radio works fine with my Honda Pilot without disconnecting the battery, I guess it just takes a little time to reprogram itself, that’s my guess anyway, Thank you for responding to my question. 😀

No it is not the stock number, normally it will be on the first page of the service history manual or maintenance information manual not the large owners manual. Hopefully this helps.

Charlie G. No problem happens all the time if possible disconnect both the positive and negative terminal ends at the battery for 2 minutes and reconnect. If this does not work let me know but it should pull it right back up

harjinder pal ok when that happens sometimes it has been tried to many times or it will sometimes kind of spaz out. If you disconnect the battery for a few minutes it will reset it.

Benjamin Obrien ok well a little tricky. Are there any current phones paired? You can find that in the settings phone and paired phones. If yes delete those first. If not or you cannot reach that setting I recommend a battery reset and you’ll need to remove both the positive and negative battery terminals and leave off for a few minutes once reconnected you’ll have to reset everything but this may reset it to start working again. If not unfortunately it’s likely you’ll need to go to the dealer there may be an update they can do or you may have to send out to fix or replace audio unit. Ok thanks I’ll try unplugging the battery But I can’t even get to the phone settings to see if there’s any saved phones also the buttons on my steering wheel don’t work for the Bluetooth

For that vehicle you have to remove the radio unit to get the serial number. There are a few screws to remove and plastic clips to be removed for the bezel. then you will have access to the screws/bolts for the radio. please note I have been lucky on getting serial number using a mirror to prevent removing the whole radio unit.

Disconnect the battery terminals for a couple minutes, this resets the radio so you can try again. If you try too many times with the wrong code it will error out and lock up.

I assume that has navigation? If so I made a video for that as well

The only other way is to let the car sit on for over an hour. Otherwise disconnecting the battery is the only way, also a lot faster.

Sorry I just saw this comment. It means you have tried too many times in error. Disconnect the battery for 45 seconds then reconnect and it will reset the radio then enter the correct code and you will be set

Yep unfortunately that happens what you need to do is disconnect both battery terminals for a couple minutes then reconnect them.

JAYRCAL D all from the steering wheel control button I believe in that model. You hit the talk button then say setting or phone setup. Hope this helps

Try deleting the phone out and re-pair it

@@HONDACARGUY when I put in the radio on PHONE key, on the screen keeps the phone icon loading and keeps like that for the entire time I keep using the car, I removed two times the radio, disconnected the battery and the radio ask me the secure code, I put the code, the radio works fine everything works fine, but, the phone option not work at all, keep the same icon, phone logo with loading scroll... any suggest?

Ok, once it beeps and says error, stop and restart from the beginning. If it still does not work you have the wrong code. Once you error too many times it will lock you out and you will have to disconnect the battery for a minute. Once reconnected you can try again

This should get you the serial number, then you could get the code from Honda/Acura for whenever your battery dies.

@HONDACARGUY Thank you. I ended waiting and drove the car and it resetted. I then entered the correct code.

Does this car have navigation? Also as soon as you hear it beep 3 times stop and restart the code sometimes it will be one digit off and messes up the sequence.

Easy fix, once it stops and beeps then start with the code fresh. If you have tried too many times and it just says error you will have to disconnect the battery for a few minutes, then reconnect and that will reset it.
