I love how 'loaded' with layers the Shuttleworth world becomes. John wants to do a fashion item for radio using Ken as a model but Mary, who's entirely rooted in the everyday, takes John's question literally as to whether or not Ken needs to change his look. Being fond of Ken as well as being frustrated with John at the best of times, the combination of both things leads Mary to defend Ken's right to dress how he likes. Meanwhile she takes the opportunity to have a dig at John who she DOES wish would modernise his look a bit (which in turn is only a small part of she wishes was different about John!). And Ken....is oblivious to this as usual (seemingly?...even though he's equally fond of Mary as she is of him!) but is clearly keen on the idea of a new jacket. Incredible. You could write a great thesis on The Shuttleworth world. WAY better than Alan Bennett.
Thanks for putting these up, Andrew. So many well-missed gems that BBC Sounds for some reason aren't hosting. This version of Dandelion and Burdock is the best (and the Patrick Moore version of Blatherwycke is a New Faces '73 winner.
The ultimate way to make your day become much better is a good dose of John Shuttleworth , my hero , thanks for sharing , I’m ready to start the day in the perfect mood , peace ✌️ 😎🌴
22:37 John Hegley talks of John Shuttleworth's cat!! Naughty of him to take liberties with our image of the Shuttleworth world...John has Mary, Darren, Karen and Kirsty the dog in the house but he hasn't got a cat, to the best of my knowledge.
