Radioddity DB40-D Dual Band Digital & Analog Mobile Ham Radio Transceiver 

I've had this radio for a few months... the "single frequency repeater" as well as a coupon/deal online was what drew the deal to close. The SFR functions poorly and needs a lot of refinement... it is "double vocoded" but about 50% of the time or less it works. So, with that said, it has replaced a Motorola XPR5550 I'd been using for almost a decade. The radio is more sensitive than the Moto from what I have decoded, and the dual VFO is nice for monitoring two different channels at once without scanning. The receive speaker does suffer from lack of volume control in home use. I implemented a variable resistor in order to set the low-end volume at something totally respectable for use there... where it sits upon my desk. The only other quirk I've noticed is occasional rebooting, for a CCR, it's not bad at all.... a lot better than the smaller and lower powered DB25/ RT73.

I received The DB-40 this week. I love the radio. I do agree with you the volume control leaves some to be desired. It was to loud at home but I purchased for my pickup. I run the audio through the speaker mic and just leave the speaker mic on top of the radio via the magnetic Mic and it works just fine. All in all, 4.5 stars. 73, Joe. N2UBI

I'm really interested in using this as a standalone repeater for DMR would love to see you do a video of this and also its capability of encryption as well as functioning as a repeater using encryption love all the videos you make on DMR radios very thorough and well done

Had it from the manufacturer 6 months ago from alibaba (kydera) terrible thing. Shipped it back.

I'm interested in the same channel DMR repeater facility on this radio considering the upcoming changes to our licences re being able to possibly have a 5w 2 meters repeater without the need for an NOV. Can you buy this radio from a UK dealer.

Is the receiver superhet or direct conversion?

Does this code plug program work with anytone radios too?

I have one, It times out in crossband mode. DMR or Analog. All Tot's are turned off yet refuses to crossband after a certain period of usage. Have to turn off then back on to resolve problem, Also the squelch adjustment is awful, even at lowest setting it cuts off reasonable good signals. KA9DSL

Is this a big brother to the RT73 ?

DMR is ok but analog rx quality is horrible like if compander is on and cannot be disabled. The same issue was here when RT73 was launched and was corrected by later firmwares. I informed Radioditty and wait for a future firmware. Analog unusable for the moment, it's not normal with a such an expensive "high end" radio...

Great functionality, but it's too expensive. The competition is at least $100 less.

The screen is the only nice thing about this radio. I own one and I'm very disappointed in it. The volume control is so terrible, I'm returning the radio. There is no quiet; the volume is either off, loud or slightly louder. The CPS software is trash and although CodePlug editor is much better, some settings don't actually work. The included CPS software has a driver so old, you have to disconnect from the internet to install it on Windows 11. Really? If you set a channel for RX only, it still transmits on 136.0Mhz IF it's on the lower section. The RSSI indicator is useless and mine shows 100% on the lower section all the time until there is a received signal (the upper section doesn't exhibit the same issue). The DMR calls always seem to have a notifier tone at the end of transmission that I can't figure out how to disable (not sure if you did or if it's just edited out.). Removing the mic cable to plug in the programming cable requires a screwdriver or a pencil to hit the latch-release. I don't like that the display can't show Channel Name & Frequency at the same time. Also, channel names are limited to 10 characters. The CPS and manual talk about the "green button" - too bad it's red or gray with the LED off. Turning on Scan mode on one section disables as soon as you try to use the other section. This means I am constantly turning scanning back on. To turn on scan mode (if the channel doesn't have a scan list set) requires 5 menu clicks.

Anyone 578 plus cheaper and better supported

Sounds like one of the cheap speakers that hurts my ears after ten minutes. Far to overpriced in my opinion
