I think its about a child who grows up in a world which he is not welcome to, just look at the shoot with the plant at the end, you can see his reaction as the shadow approaches into stomping the plant, i assume the plant represents him, there are metaphors all over the place, the big robot with the purple hair might be his abusive mother showing her as cruel and emotionless like a robot, it shoots a beam from its mouth so it might be a metaphor about screaming to him and also the scene with the statue might mean that he is treaten bad by society and that he feels guilty and the he deserves it because everything is his fold, people always blame other people for their mistakse and if you are a child with low self esteem it will cripple you, thats why he is running, he is trying to run away from everthing but his imagination comes from his anxiety, kinda like Binding of Isaac where isaac tries to escape reality with his imagination , those are my thoughts oyoyoy
"15 Step" is a very warm and upbeat song about a failed love that uses metaphors connected to hanging, with instances such as the line revolving around the Title Drop ("15 steps, then a sheer drop") -Radiohead tvtropes page
Lyrics if you need them :) : How come I end up where I started? How come I end up where I went wrong? Won't take my eyes off the ball again You reel me out then you cut the string How come I end up where I started? How come I end up where I went wrong? Won't take my eyes off the ball again You reel me out then you cut the string You used to be alright What happened? Did the cat get your tongue? Did your string come undone? One by one One by one It comes to us all It's as soft as your pillow You used to be alright What happened? Etcetera etcetera Fads for whatever 15 steps Then a sheer drop How come I end up where I started? How come I end up where I went wrong? Won't take my eyes off the ball again You reel me out then you cut the string
Radiohead has some great music videos that capture the feeling of the song perfectly like Daydreaming, Street Spirit and No Surprises They also have videos like this
I don't know why people don't like this music video, I love it. It's so ridiculously absurd that it captures the feeling of 15 Step being a chaotic song.
How come I end up where I started? How come I end up where I went wrong? Won't take my eyes off the ball again You reel me out then you cut the string How come I end up where I started? How come I end up where I went wrong? I won't take my eyes off the ball again First you reel me out and then you cut the string You used to be alright What happened? Did the cat get your tongue? Did your string come undone? One by one One by one It comes to us all It's as soft as your pillow You used to be alright What happened Et cetera, et cetera Fads for whatever Fifteen steps Then a sheer drop How come I end up where I started? How can I end up where I went wrong? Won't take my eyes off the ball again You reel me out and you cut the string
Don't want to disrespect anyone's work but IMO this video was meh, I don't like it at all, I feel that in some moments it could fit the song but fail to do so. This video could have been better, and it could fit better with another song. Paranoid Android is a better example of why we should have more animated videos. Both songs are amazing tho
This video is a trip and I definitely appreciate the style and creativity...but fuck if I can't grasp what the hell it all means. But the video for Paranoid Android didn't exactly make a whole lot of sense either. ;)
Whenever I heard the name "Radiohead" I only got the impression of either trippy, loud or meaningless songs... this was their first I ever listened to, and I'm absolutely impressed
@@jonatandige8895 A lot of their songs have incoherent lyrics, so in that way they lack meaning, but those tend to foster a strong vibe to them, purposeful in their insanity.
I love the synchronization of this wonderful animation with the song. somelike Paranoid Android song with that other animation... Radiohead + random Animations= exciting addiction.
Well Paranoid Android's music video was technically an episode of a Swedish TV show. This meanwhile appears to be unconnected to any preexisting media other than the music.
Im looking for similar sounding songs of Radiohead (or other bands) like this particular song. I've had a look at Radiohead's collection of music and each songs sounds radically different than the last in my opinion which is of course great as a band but less great when you're in the mood for a similar sound.
@@magicman6908 haha ye Pablo Honey is the movie you bring to film 101 to show off and the rest are what you make after you've been taught basic film language... Pablo Honey is an expression of art while the later works are an expression through art. And Radiohead fans are pretentious 😂
@@fightthepowermanMan, I’ve never understood this narrative. All the loudest Radiohead fans are always the most pretentious, so I suppose I get it, but a lot of people just like their music, and I think that’s okay
@@masonwiltrout7437 ok so here is a basic lesson in English... One can make generalisations about a group and others will understand that a _generalisation_ means that some members of that group will be precluded. Its when i make an absolutist statement about a group (i.e had i said "*all* Radiohead fans are pretentious") that others will understand my statement is all encompassing. Also issa joke man. I can't believe I'm going to do this... i hope you have a base understanding of subtlety... I was pointing out how my comment was pretentious by generalising about a group i am part of. This way it appears that I'm attributing my own failures to a group i am part of instead of taking responsibility. The humour comes from the incredibly low stakes nature of the obvious want to distance myself from... Myself. The smiling laughing emoji really was your clue here.
I think Radiohead tried to choose a variety of winners rather than just one style of video. I agree that the video that won for "Videotape" is what Radiohead's style is more like but I don't think they wanted to limit it to just that. I think they choose the most creative one that appealed to them.
@@User-xw6kd Judging by this comment you made, I can assume you watch anime, and thus want to defend it. So I have one question for you... you watch The Rising of the Shield Hero? If so, cool!
While Radiohead is more of a quirky band and this video tends more toward wacky, I still think it was a great animation that went with the song pretty well :)
The entire thing reminds me of nightmares. Starts normalish with a few things out of place and then ends with you feeling completely powerless, even about to die. Then it flashes and you wake up.
How come I end up where I started How come I end up where I belong Won't take my eyes off the ball again You reel me out then you cut the string How come I end up where I started How come I end up where I belong Won't take my eyes off the ball again You reel me out then you cut the string You used to be alright What happened? Did the cat get your tongue Did your string come undone One by one One by one It comes to us all It's as soft as your pillow You used to be alright What happened? Etcetera etcetera Facts for whatever Fifteen steps Then a shear drop How come I end up where I started How come I end up where I belong Won't take my eyes off the ball again You reel me out then you cut the string
idk if you’re still using this account. but yes, they do! they are both about romantic rejection in a vicious cycle, eventually going insane, and then committing suicide!
The main character has always reminded me of Nobita or for you only knowing of him from the American version Noby of Doraemon, Ah what a good show, and a good music video lol.
Nightmarish surreal video that, at first glance, does not vibe with the song, even though it perfectly depicts the constant paranoia and lingering wistfulness of modern life - the song's core message.
