We're the orchestra to your ball And we beg for the scraps from your table All we want is to be like you Music to play your phone Pump pumping sounds through the speakers below Hello I've tried so hard to keep still They will chew you up They will spit out your bones Standing in the shadows at the end of the bed I never said anything I live a wallpaper life of playing guitar in a band It seems so volatile Oh my, oh my He was a good man And he said he was the best They said that even when life spat in his face He put everything back in its right place A conflict of interest, you might say Are you trying to bribe me? This heart for my sins We are plants, happy plants Superhuman builders' day See You're gonna burn filler I leave you for the bitch of supper and go green Loved to death like egg mayonnaise With a grin like roadkill Fine, let's stay Everything is alive There is nothing but blue skies from now on No ghosts, no skeletons A man hovers in the dust, dust, dust Thank you very much, thank you Everybody drive home safe and carefully tonight And we'll see you in our lounge in a few weeks time Goodnight! God bless! Let's go home, Jonny
Ed is really underrated. He's an amazing singer and guitarist, and most people don't even know that he can play drums also. I hope he releases a solo album.
I remember watching this webcast...I've watched most of Radiohead's live webcasts - always a good time. They drink a little, DJ, play music, goof off...I wish I could find the old school ones in their entirety. "we are plants! happy plants!"
he also wrote the riff for Street Spirit (Fade Out), the opening riff for Go To Sleep, the unreleased track Big Boots and also Meeting In The Aisle, another OK Computer era b -side :)
OMG! It reminds me early pink floyd's works, like some tracks of Ummagumma, for example A Several Species Of A Small Furry Animals Gathered Togheter In A Cave And Grooving With A Pict". Ed you're crazy! I'm astonished!
@agk971 "As well as being a self-taught guitarist, he is an accomplished drummer; though his only drum contributions for Radiohead to date have been tom drums on live performances of Hail to the Thief track "There There", a task he shares with Greenwood (though the part they play is put together on a synthesizer on the studio version).,[4] and additional drumming on the b-side Pearly*." from wikipedia on ed
@Davepumpkinhead I think that he just grabbed all the phrases that they used for kid A (They put them in a hat and pulled them out at random, that's the way they wrote the lyrics). That's why he says "everything in its right place" "Standing in the shadows at the end of my bed" and "wallpaper life"
Interesting at 0:33, he says "I live a wallpaper life of playing guitar in a band" In the song cuttooth, there's a lyric "I would live a wallpaper life / Or run away to the foreign legion" Not that it's necessarily connected, just thought that it's not all that common of an expression.
Supposedly this song was put together by putting lines from unfinished songs on pieces of paper and drawing them out of a hat. He also says "Everything in its right place" and "standing in the shadows at the end of the bed" (a line from the song Kid A).

@boderadio If want to hear a song by Ed that was actually released, try the song Treefingers off of Kid A. He originally recorded the song as an ambient guitar solo but it was then heavily processed to sound like a synthesizer.
