Noticed the suicide hotline in the description and wanted to thank you. A lot of people gloss over the fact that the characters committed suicide. They care more about the romance than the movies actual lesson. I'm glad you didn't gloss over it, and instead used it to help others. Thank you.
Your comment means a lot to me so thank you ^^. Every editing from romeo and juliet just don't care about the actual lesson and just do their editing about the romance with romeo and juliet and it makes me really sad. I just hope that my video will help...
@@TheWickedWizardOfOz1 You know, there are so many lessons, don’t you think? Also, there are also many reasons that people choose to commit suicide, or balance on that edge of doing so, thinking it would be the only solution. Things can feel unbearable to an extent that if you haven’t been there, then understand that others do, perhaps not only once, but many days a week or month, or year. I think that music brings forth a lot of those emotions and states in people, this one being a praticularily raw one. I think that this song really encompass a sort of ending. Maybe hopelessness? So I think it’s compassionate to have a suicide hotline note in the end of it. That it’s worth to get help, if one’s at that brink of the emotional cliff. That one conversation, that one connection with just another human being. Re-connectiong you with life, and this world, no matter how painful and unbearable it may feel. I don’t think the song in any way betrays Shakespeare in that sense, how would we ever know that anyway? Any old book must be read by a present reader, no one can truly know what «true Shakespearean perception» is all about anyway. Let any reader or viewer decide for themselves. What it means to them. Seeking help with suicidal thoughts, feelings, plans, is the right thing to do. No one ought to go through that alone, as their ending. Maybe the tragedy of Romeo & Juliet may show us just that. That perception is in the moment, in the eyes of the beholder, but that it could also be very, very wrong and distorted. Like Romeo, when he took his poison, because he truly believe Juliet to be dead. But she was not. She still lived. And thus the tragedy unfolded in the wrong direction. So I think it’s compassionate and very appropriate for this song, in accordance to the scene, to have this reminder. Please anyone, take from this, that you are not alone❤
@@TheWickedWizardOfOz1 My comment also include you, for that matter, just saying. You could very well be suffering. So your opinion matters, but still...a rather weird comment in the midst of others discussing a very grave topic, like suicide, indeed? (Maybe witnessing some sort of academic Shakespearean fetishism which is hard to get by for most viewers anyway?). Still the topic was of suicide, and whatever the music and filme/scene may bring forth. And for that matter, the Luhrmann depiction of R & J is by far one of the most innovative and provocative depictions of Shakespeare (of historicial material?) ever in newer times, still to this day? Whomever has actually had the guts to do anything like this since? This kind of originality and innovation in movies has been in decline unfortuntely. Today, people only steal from people who already stolen. No matter the genre or discipline. So, decline is on the rise, thus lower quality and unfortunately lower authenticity and yep, you guessed it, leading to lower and declined audience autonomy. This movie is a reminder that authenticity is indeed a healthy goal and intention of any art. So if you are a creative soul, but also giving up - please don't. Please know that the world needs your depictions, talent and uniqueness❤ Don' t give up, love❤
The song has such an amazing backstory. It's such a perfect song for this Romeo and Juliet. At least Radiohead got to create the song the way the wanted.
@@asail5082 it was originally going to be part of the score for the 1996 film Romeo + Juliet. However, they band decided they wanted to keep some level of ownership over the song, so it was released on OK Computer instead. And instead of the music being used during the movie itself, it was played during the credits. Still when I hear this song now, I think about Romeo + Juliet. But i can understand them wanting to retain the rights to keep their song for their album. It's one of their best, I think.
