*Correction, the Avian ESC doesn't require a Spektrum SMART battery to transmit battery voltage*
Lets setup flight pack voltage telemetry monitoring on the RadioMaster TX16S with EdgeTX 2.8.5. Receiver is a Spektrum AR631 with a Spektrum Avian SPMXAE30B Smart Lite 30A brushless ESC. Battery is a Spektrum 3S 2200 Smart battery. We will find the value, calibrate the voltage with a reference voltmeter, setup a low voltage alarm, create a display widget to show voltage, and create a special function for voice call outs of the battery voltage.

A smart lipo is only smart for a charger cause it has the center wire. There's no smart for plugging in Avian esc cause it doesn't have the center wire. That is why any lipo will work and get flight pack telemetry

Ha! You're right! I hadn't even noticed there was no center wire on the ESC. Gonna pin your comment, thanks for the correction Flyer Mikey!

A bit more info on the "smart" ESC wire. I'm using an Avian Lite ESC. The non "lite" Avian ESCs do have the center wire so will collect additional battery data. Without the smart wire, any battery will provide pack volts but for cell voltage all the telemetry does is divide the total volts by the number of cells so it won't tell you if you have a low cell. You need a non lite esc for that.

Thank you, Shane. Gonna go through and watch all your videos because I am probably gonna get rid of my Spektrum DX6e transmitter and get a RadioMater TX16S II. Your videos are very helpful.

You don't need a smart lipo . I'm using a dumb lipo and can get flight voltage in total and for each cell on my Zorro using a Avian esc

Another question, is there a way to have it read out lipo voltage like 11.47 volts , cause all I get is like 11.5 volts
@shanesdiy

Default only reads down to one decimal place. I'll experiment and see if I can find a way to go down 2 or more decimals.

Dear Shane, I wanted to express my gratitude for your helpful videos on RU-vid. I own an Aeroscout S2, much like yours, and a TX16s. I've utilized your file for SAFE setup, which works perfectly. However, I'm encountering an issue: I can't seem to get voltage telemetry on my transmitter. The only voltage reading I see is A2 for the transmitter itself, not the battery pack on my airplane. In your video, you mentioned that EVIN exists, but on mine, it's not showing up. Do you have any video tutorials or tips that could help us troubleshoot this issue? Thanks again for your assistance.

My AeroScouts are older models that came with the Hobbyzone ESC. The later model AeroScouts come with an Avian Lite 30A ESC which adds the voltage telemetry as well as some other things like RPM, amperage, etc. I upgraded one of my AeroScouts with the newer Avian ESC and that is how I added those items. I have a video titled "AeroScout Reverse Thrust" where I discuss the ESC. If you are sure you do have the Avian ESC, check that when you did the bind to the plane you are using the DSM X2F protocol. If you are using DSM2 protocol you don't get all the telemetry values coming through. Here's a link to the reverse thrust video where I upgraded my ESC to get the telemetry. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-C0L_cKdJAy4.html

@@shanesdiy My Aerosscout is with AR631. Its written it has telemetry even for Voltage. my TX16S is 2.7.1 and using DSM X2F.
@shanesdiy
@shanesdiy 2 месяца назад
@@armans3038 The AR631 is able to provide this additional data via telemetry but you must have the Avian ESC to provide that data to the AR631. The AR631 isn't connected directly to the flight battery so without the Avian ESC it doesn't know the voltage of the battery, just the BEC voltage. If you are sure your AeroScout has the Avian ESC the data is there. How old is your AeroScout? Only the latest model that comes with the float mounts came standard with the Avian. Did you "discover new" in the telemetry screen to capture all available data? EdgeTX 2.7.1 should have no trouble receiving it but there have been considerable improvements in the newer versions of EdgeTX. Might not be your issue but be sure in the model setup near the bind button you have "Channels Range" set to 1 to 12. If it's set for 1-16, 1-6, 1-8, etc. some functions won't work.

@@shanesdiy I bought it recently but I am in Italy, maybe its old version. is any way I recognize if it has Avian ESC on it? other wise I will add it like your video Tutorial

It is mounted under the receiver so difficult to get to. The Avian is much larger than the Hobbyzone. Throttle response is a potential giveaway. The Hobbyzone ESC has a "painfully slow" throttle up delay. If you hit full throttle and it takes a few seconds to get to full speed it's probably the Hobbyzone. Also, the Avian has a single yellow wire in that is for the Avian programmer. The Hobbyzone won't have that yellow wire. I show this in my reverse thrust video.

I am using a Ar631 and a bec and batteries that are not Smart avian. So i do not get diretly the EVIN in the telemetry, but i get a A2 , with 4.98V (using a 3S battery pac). Is this value A2 presenten in the telemetry aome how related ro tye battery pack? my guess is yes because this rx is telemetry capable but only with smart esc bec, but i assume that if connected to a non- smar esc bec may still read battery but in a different way. I am incorrect and i can not get the battery pack from this telemetry A2 value? tks
@shanesdiy
@shanesdiy 5 месяцев назад
Don't need a Spektrum smart battery to get the pack voltage, you must have the Avian ESC. I think I said you did in the video, but later determined it works with any battery, just needs to be the Avian smart ESC. A2 is the receiver voltage, not main battery or "flight pack" voltage.
@alexherrera3918
@alexherrera3918 5 месяцев назад
@@shanesdiy ok , but A2 is not my receiver voltage , i am using a u2s battery so it should be greater that 7.3 volts that is why i thought it was coming from the flight pack. Thanks for your response!!!

How to get the radio to stop saying low battery once you land and radio on? My airplane is below voltage after landing and I’ve unplugged it and it’s still saying low battery. Thanks
@shanesdiy
@shanesdiy 2 месяца назад
After this video I tweaked mine a bit. The logical switch (L25 in the video) now has a 15 second delay vs 3 sec. in the video, this reduces false alarms. To get the call out to stop when done flying, add your throttle enable switch to the "AND switch" in the logical switch (L25 in the video). I use SH for throttle cut, for example, so my "AND switch = SH↑". This way when I activate throttle cut by switching SH↓ the voltage monitor L25 deactivates and no more callouts. Also, in the special function (SF35 in the video) I changed the repeat to 20 seconds so it doesn't do it quite as often.
