Rza has DIRECTED movies and is in Tarantino's back pocket. No, you CAN'T make the kind of movie you proposed for ten million. Budget for "Straight Outta Compton" (with less characters) was $30-$50 million. Rza was right on this one...
Sure, but that was a start, and Leonardo DiCaprio wanted to help make the film happen. Having Leonardo DiCaprio help make the film would attract more investors. RZA has directed one film, and it wasn't all that great. Quentin Tarantino wasn't helping to produce a Wu Tang film, though if RZA managed to make that happen... And they had Leonardo DiCaprio onboard? Dude, missed opportunity. Really, all they needed was Leonardo DiCaprio. He's a MUCH bigger deal than RZA's Hulu connections.
The series gives a lot more room for creativity & multiple plots, even a 2-3 hour movie would have to just be a straightforward biopic. IMO the NWA story would have made a hell of a TV series too, it’s too much history to pack into a regular length film
RZA was right, $10 million to do a film?? That’s an indie budget lol. Plus you cant fit the entire wu tang story into 2 hours man… not possible. Hulu was a much better idea
Bro those dudes are real hustlers , it would’ve took 5 mill to make that film, gross triple or more then that . I believe they would’ve find a way if they went with Leo , I’m a business owner so I always look at deals like this as opportunities . Gotta believe in yourself
@@kevincodio2596 Rza won't let Rae play the Abbott and make power moves like that...do you not remember Rae going public dissing Rza a few times and the behind the scenes lawsuits that transpired...Rza would make sure that Rae has no say or spearhead the movement...Rza is way smarter than Rae...a 10 mill budget for a film with 9 members doesn't make sense...Rza easily could get 50 m
@@kevincodio2596 Production, post, crew salaries, marketing, distribution. You're not making a worthwhile film with $10 million unless you're filming in one house with no cars, no background actors, etc.
Chef is such a charismatic dude as is the RZA. I can see why both strong willed individuals would have their differences at times, but the respect and reverence they posses for each other always transcends and shines through with them.
That’s what I’m thinking him narrating the thing kinda like a belly that movie is a all time great like how they had nas with that distinctive voice narrating it.
Raekwon’s actor in the show ended up being the best casting choise too. He has all the energy and character and mannerisms and the look that Raekwon has and is even better looking than Rae.
I'm sure if they had a movie it would've been amazing. But since covid, movies took a back seat to streaming services. And streaming services started making these bomb ass shows, and the revenue from a good series is insane. Rza made a good move
I understand rae frustration but RZA idea was right when it comes to this streaming era especially since COVID !!!!! I just don’t like how the series is watered down
Beside covid Wu tang story can not be told in 3 or 4 hours on film. Rae feels it is water down because alot of stuff in the series is not accurate it but added to make it more exciting. The part we're Raekwon shot up Ghost crib that never happened it was based off a true event that happened which Rae talks about it in one of the vlad interview parts so you see where rza got the idea from. I'm guessing it like that with a lot of biopic and movies about a real person or something. It never 100% accurate
The TV Show idea is way better then a movie with the TV Series they have time to tell the story properly with a movie there's so many things would get cut out to fit the movies time frame Rza made the right decision that's why he is The Abbott
yea, aka "watered down.".....Rza, heard that sub.😂 But Rae def should go for his...... Rza get a piece of that action no matter so no running from it. Contract's lock n key'ed....🎞️🎥
The series was definitely the better route!! I’m looking forward to watching season 3 of Wu! I haven’t re-watched Straight out of Compton in a few years and that movie is 🔥🔥🔥
I like hearing the Chef's perspective. But he's GOTTA know, the version that he wanted was gonna cost waaaay more than 10 million. Way more. By the way, the Hulu version was Very good. With the series, they told a very good story with a lot of good angles. I personally love Shameik Moore's interpretation of Reakwon. Everyone gave a strong performance...
Yeah, he was buggin on that.. it reminded of the time when a college dorm mate of mine was swearing up and down that Old E was the most popular beer in the country... all of the homies was telling him it was Bud Light. Old E was just big in the hood at the time, but country wide, nobody is drinking it like that. Bud Light is every where and they have the most expensive commercials. Raekwon was sounding like the Old E dude. 10 million won't get you in theaters nationwide... it won't get you the best actors, the best crew, the best writers and directors. unless he's talking about paying everyone minimum wage. But even still, that won't be enough.
The Hulu series could of been great, but it was a contrived cliche piece of shit, the raekeon character was probably the best though, I do agree with that, but the rest were over acted caricatures, the storyline’s were clearly contrived as hell and written for “tv” it just became so unbelievable and ridiculous I couldn’t keep watching, the main actor that played rza is a chump, I don’t why rza chose him he couldn’t reflect rzas shadow let alone rzas charisma and that deep voice he puts on to try sound like rza, is corny a.f. , can’t believe so many are falling for this corny ass gay series, it should of been gritty and authentic like the Wu clearly were/are, not all this polished hackneyed cliched shit.
No doubt a TV series gives way more space & time for different plot development, but Raekwon’s words here exactly echo all the criticism any my friends have had about the series- that it gets a little cartoonish & isn’t as gritty as they would’ve liked 🤷🏽♂️ I liked it but I can see that point too
It sounds great but what do you think the action would be about, maybe just everyday life, people around them, drug dealing & guns etc., I wonder if there'd be more of a story to the action...
There was 3 cinematic episodes in the last show and they were all useless and just pure trash. Just saying that’s how low budget cinematic projects end up, so if they only would have had $10-20m for the movie it would have been trash.
Give me the uncut Scotch anyday!! lol. Love this. Overall, 9 times out of 10 it was simply because a series 'lasts longer.' Nothing more. Quantity over quality in order to drill itself into the minds a new generation that can't watch anything longer than 3 minutes, and used to taking content in 'bits.' Can't say it was a bad move on the Rza's part, though I would totally prefer the Francis Ford Coppola version and I'm with Raekwon on wanting to go for the gusto. Mad respect to him for sticking with his guns.
@@poundtrader1414 thats crazy, I doubt RZA would give the rights to make a wu tang movie or anything to anyone.. but idk. he seems too shrewd for that.
@@poundtrader1414 if rza wanted he could fund it easily, he's not broke. He owns the rights to Wu Tang Clan, he could do whatever he pleases...he just doesn't want Rae playing the Abbott position.
To RZA defense 10mil is a hella small budget for a Wu-Tang Clan documentary movie. Straight Outta Compton was between 30-50mil. Much respect and love for Rae, but RZA is responsible for bringing the world one the greatest Hip-Hop groups of all time where all nine members were able to have solo deals. So he has a better understanding from the business aspect. I feel what Rae is saying from an artistic aspect, but that's not happening with 10mil.
Dammit, I so wish we could have seen his vision of the movie. The way he describes it like a Scorsese or Coppola style film sound like it would have been so great.
Dope story.. thank u for letting this man tell his story without interrupting. Nore, take notes my G💯 AND I think a Scorsese-type movie would STILL be dope!!
I would love to see a good Wu Tang Clan biopic movie, a well directed one of course, a 3hs movie that keep you stuck to the story. One love Suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu!!!!
@Anthony Mcken you gave me 3 good movies and 1 bad one lol. How about bohemian rhapsody. That was amazing. NWA had actual members giving input. Eminem was there as well.pac was dead. Biggie as well so I'll say that's the exception. I think all the clan can make a dope film.
The Hulu series has surpassed my expectations. Tbh I didn’t think it’d be any good when I first heard about it and to my surprise I’ve enjoyed every minute of it. My only beef is the way they got dude who plays the Rza talking in like fragments can be annoying at times.
A Wutang movie would have to be 7-9hours long. It’s 9 core members and they all have a story to tell. The show is a better idea and the best idea. Therefore newcomers get a better picture of who they are. Even my young niece love the shows.
I'm 47y/o and back in the 90's u know how it is hanging on the corner getting mad money and we only went to once CONCERT and that was WU-TANG and all I can say was it was TRULY WORTH IT!!!
When it comes to rapping Raekwon is one ( top 3) of the G.O.A.T.S...When it comes to the movies / series Rza has a lot of experience in this... I think this gangster movie style is getting old... We need more positive ve stuff
@@cole71 there’s so much significant stories to tell during the process of this album and you most certainly have to highlight Nas’s verse on Verbal Intercourse!
Chef explained it best with the scotch analogy. The series is good but definitely watered down. A real full feature biopic would have been best. Example: just like the first album they all appeared together.. then released each of there own albums. So in retrospect the movie should have been done first then make a series for each members perspective. Financially they would have locked down 15 years of income. WU - Tang foreva.
That Wu documentary on showtime was so ill I didn't need a tv series or movie after that. I haven't even checked the series out yet, but I will, I'm always late on tv shows
The depiction of RAEKWON in the series in 10000000% on point...RAE is that one that is gonna play devil's advocate everytime...and as a crew of that many...You need a brother just like him
I respectfully disagree with Rae on this one. Telling all 9 brother’s story requires a series with multiple seasons. A 2 hour movie isn’t nearly enough time
Rae is right. I think Rza went the way he did because it worked for him better financially. If they went the movie route it would have been less share of the pie for him. He wanted full control over the content and a bigger cut.
I remember when they were talking about doing another Wu album some years back. That nigga said, "when I the Abbot raise the flag" RZA RICH as shit. Just sold half his catalogue. I've even heard Wu members have to pay to use the Wu symbol on their album covers
