Here is your early viewing of Andy Morris' interview, as he talks us through the general application process, his personal experience of applying as an engineer, with some good advice for anyone thinking of joining the RAF.
In the end, Andy didn't continue his RAF journey as an engineer due to personal reasons, but hopefully, this will give you a bit of insight into the application process.

Fantastic you explained it really well . I was 12 years in the Raf as gas turbine technician,I went to raf Swinderby for basic training then raf Halton for technical training ,I’m now 60 years old ,I’m a caa licensed aircraft engineer A,B1 ,B1.2 and B2 certified on 7 aircraft types and light aircraft pilots licence held ,I started off as a coal miner at 16 then left to join the raf 1 year later 😊 Regards Dave from Scotland

In the old days !!!😵‍💫😵‍💫🤗🤪🤪 1980, it seemed a painless excersize to join. Pop into career office , a few informal chats and a formal one then offered a start date 🤣 From memory I think it was around 4 months from popping in to find out more to my first rollocking 🤬🤬🤬🤬at Swinderby, thinking they never mentioned this back t the careers office !! 😂😂😂😂🤙😀

Ahh Swinderby.......when I was a youngster we did a camp there with the Air Cadets , for some reason I remember the juke box in the Naffi (or similar) and playing Peter Gabriel's Sledgehammer on it haha, In the end I didn't join the RAF and went into the Army Air Corps instead as I wanted to do Combat Choppers. My daughter now intends to join the RAF which is cool.

I had to do a secondary trade test and interview after all the aptitude stuff at my Afco. I also amazingly had a green list of trade choices. Intelligence and air traffic interested me most although the afco tried to push me towards engineering as they had a shortage. Stick to your choices if you feel strongly about it.

I must be very sad. I loved my basic training at RAF Swinderby.,The drill, PT, classroom stuff and weapons training. Hard but great fun..

Your not on your own Tony, I enjoyed my basic training too. I had six years earlier completed basic and trade training in the Royal Navy but released early due to a very disappointing draft to a training ship. I joined the RAF in 1980 and then completed 30 years service.

Hi guys, I’m also an applicant in the process of joining the Royal Air Force. I’ll be covering the entire application process on my channel too, which I think may interest some of you. I posted my first video regarding the DAA, and I’d appreciate it if you could let me know if it has been helpful. Thank you, Vivek

3:18 That's weird, I got to do Medical test first then Fitness test. Probably some changes in Application.

A Eng Tech A/P was the best engineering trade. Sadly the RAF in their stupidity stopped the full engineering apprenticeship in the 1990s. Trade Group 1. Highest paid non commissioned trade. Halton - basic recruit training..... not in my day, 6 weeks at Swinderby, then 3yrs at Halton learning aircraft engineering - rigger & sooty plus quite a bit electrics and engineering academics.

Ha ha! I was dead keen to join up in the late 80s. Had an interview with some tired old bugger who put me off entirely with his attitude. My bad luck I guess. Went back some years later and was told I was too old at 28 unless I knew how to operate on people animals or teeth. More bad luck...

Hi. I have a big doubt. I'm looking into joining the RAF for pilot role. However, I don't meet the requirement of living in UK for 5 years or longer. I have British passport and was born in UK, although I live in Spain. Does anyone know if they make an exception for this case?
@guacamole789
@guacamole789 8 месяцев назад
im pretty sure if you were born in the UK, after 18 you can just apply for the citizenship itself, which would just count for the 5 years needed

Best thing to do is call your nearest AFCO and tell them about it.

The reason why he got a long process is because he's old he had spoken about on his knee and they were probably not keen as the raf are never keen on having older people in the RAF this is the military today they are expecting younger people to join he's very fortunate to get in
@him050

Knees are what will always see you gone. When applying for the army it's one of the first questions they ask you.
@Templar7832
@Templar7832 6 месяцев назад
It wasn't a massive knee problem and had nothing to do with age. It was a mild muscle strain. The day after I went on my own fitness test and ran faster than I'd ever run. There really wasn't a problem.

WTF? I'd rather move to America and _much more easily_ be accepted into the greatest military on the face of planet Earth.
@SB-sj4uz
@SB-sj4uz Год назад
So you would rather take the easy route to join a military. What kind of mentality is that. Obviously not set to be the best in the world with that attitude. !!!
@louissanderson719
@louissanderson719 Год назад
Did Stan smith write this? And people can’t just move to America and join the military. Also, I’m pretty sure the selection for the USAF is pretty tough too. Doesn’t really say a lot about a military if it’s really easy to get in. It’s obvious you don’t know what you’re talking about

Yeah, all he seemed to do was go on about how long it took. Like yeah, we get it, it took you ages because you were stupid enough to tell the military that you had bad knees.
