@@Doubleoseven502 Interesting that you see some jets with that tape, and others without. I not sure if this is due to the new stealth coating and application process, or that these jets not see their first 250 hours of flight + inspections. I don't know, but both the UK models, and the USA Marine models on the HMS Q all look very nice - smooth and not all messed up with the stealth tape. From what I can gather, this tape is applied after opening the top panels for servicing. But none of the UK jets, nor the Marine jets in this video have that tape. As a result, the jets have a nice un-broken grey color - and you can tell it is stealth as to how sunlight reflects off of those surfaces. These new jets without that tape applied as a result look a lot nicer.

It is most reassuring to me to know that the back biting goes only so far and that when the chips are down we are ready and able to fight together as one because we have trained together.

Yep it appears that the U.S. MArines operate two squadrons of F35b out of Japan. With the Japanese they could outfit a Japanese Izumo carrier with 42 F35b, almost immediately.
@thehammer7711
@thehammer7711 3 года назад
Then what? No submarine cover, no mail runs, no air borne early warning. No search and rescue helicopters when launching aircraft. Plus i don't think the Japanese carrier will take more than 12 F35's of whatever type it can carry This is because it can only take 5 ASW helicopters, and 2 SAR helicopters. How could a ship smaller than the old illustrious class take more (larger F 35) aircraft than the Illustrious class did which carried 7 to 12 sea Harriers? The Izumo class weighs in at 19,500 Long (British) tons whereas the Illustrious (RO6) was 22,000 (British) long tonnes. Not to sure they could fit 42 F35's, a much larger aircraft than the Harrier, on either ship. In fact I know they couldn't fit more than 15 Harriers on the Illustrious, 22 when operating with a deck fully parked with harriers.

Would the USMC pilots practice short rolling vertical landing onHMS QE?
@Albertkallal
@Albertkallal 3 года назад
Very interesting question. And I doubt it. They would have required flight simulator training for some number of hours. Since USA ships will not be using the rolling landings on decks, then USA pilots will not have received the required training. The HMS Q not only has larger decks then the USA LHA class ships running F35B's, but the USA ships also do NOT have a glide path and landing approach light system in place. The HMS Q does have a glide path landing and approach lighting system (like many carriers in the past did). So, USA pilots (Marine Core) will not have been trained to use the landing light approach and glide path system that the HMS Q has. Rolling landings are not easy - they look easy, but a approach landing light system is used, and the USA ships running F35B have no such landing light systems in place - the HMS Q does.

While the QE May be able to deploy with 40 plus F35s, in fact she left with only 8 Royal Navy F35s and 9 United States F35s from a Marine Squadron. And none of them are from the newest block 4 versions. The head of the Royal Air Force is quoted as saying the British have only 21, about 2 months ago. The PM for the British government, for the military, when questioned only in the last month, committed to buying 48 and would not speculate after that.
@Albertkallal
@Albertkallal 3 года назад
48 is more then enough. That more jets for carriers then almost EVERY nation right now. The block updates are rolling out, and most are just software updates anyway. The B model is operational now, and with current feature sets are more advanced then any other jet flying right now. B models have seen action in Afghanistan , and A models have been used in middle east. It takes about 5-10 years of buying jets to build up a full carrier of full air wings. They are not that fair behind schedule. Britain has 18 (or now 21?). That is only 2-5 jets short of a full two air wings. it takes time, but no other nation has EVER floated a carrier with 18 5th gen stealth jets on board. To day, in total world history and the total combined 1000+ years of military history, this deployment is the largest 5th gen deployment of fighter jets at sea. Give that Brittan not had ANY carrier based ships with jets for about 10 years, this is not all bad of a start. It is perfect? no! - but is this a great start? Hell yes!

@@raywhitehead730 Where do people get their information from? Man, did your parents let farm animals abuse you as a child? Try google - it only takes 10 seconds of your time. No, Japan's Izumo class carriers are about 3 times smaller then the HMS Q. They are in the 20,000 tons range. The HMS Q is in the 60-70,000 tons range. They ARE plannign to fly F35's from the Izumo, but they are going to outfit the ship with a ramp - they have NOT done this and they have NOT flew F35 from those ships. Their capacity is expected to be about 6 jets - maybe 12. Izumo class length: 813 feet Weight class 20,000 tons. HMS Q length: 920 feet Weight class 70,000 tons. So the Izumo class ship is actually quite long - but it also quite narrow. Its size class is closer to the smaller pocket sized carriers that UK sent to the Falklands war. So NO NO, Japan's Izumo class carries have NEVER carried F35's. So, NO NO they will not be able to field more F35's then the HMS Q - by a VERY large margin. The Izumo is a helicopter ship - but they have provisions in that design to run F35's. The max number of F35's on Japan's ship will be 12. They might be able to increase that - but not by much. The Japan carrier ship is NOTHING CLOSE to the HMS Q in terms of air power, and the number of fighter jets that such ships can and will run.

Last I heard, May 2021, the Japanese actually have more F35 b versions then the Brits and it's Izumo carriers can carry up to 42 F35b each though I don't think they have. But with Marine F35 they could quickly. I think the Marines have a squadron in Japan at Iwakuni.

They've only just committed to ordering the F-35B last year I believe, so it'll be a few years before they have enough for an active squadron themselves. They also haven't finished modifications to the ships to support the aircraft, it wont be for some time yet before they're fully converted, they plan on operating around 12 F-35 with a theoretical maximum of 28, which makes sense for their size. It will be a big asset though to allied countries that operate the F-35B, meaning ships like the Queen Elizabeth and their air wing can operate closely with Japan as well as the USMC.
@Albertkallal
@Albertkallal 3 года назад
Their Izumo class carriers are smaller - they will field 6, and tops 12 jets. They smaller ships by quite a bit.
@raywhitehead730
@raywhitehead730 3 года назад
@@Albertkallal The Izumo class is only slightly smaller then the Hermes was, in the Falklands at one point the Hermes actually had 30 Harriers on board. There are sites that state the Izumo class can carry 21, F35s and that seems reasonable. I made the first two deployments on the US Guam class, that had Harriers. We could cram 21 Harriers and a couple of helos onboard. That was in the 70s. You can look that up. looking at numbers of aircraft that a ship can accommodate is a bit tricky, because it depends on the mix of kinds of aircraft your addressing. Most certainly the QE could operate with many more F35s then she left port with. I can't find anywhere where it says how many helicopters the QE left port with. Retired USN Aviator, with many years at sea. Did you ever see the Video of a C-130 landing on a carrier?

@@raywhitehead730 funnily enough the Marine Corp asked the UK to buy later so they could have aircraft sooner. We were happy to oblige. What you are seeing is quid pro quo. It also means when our aircraft turn up they are block 4 with the latest software and not the initial row rate production jets that need loads of remedial work doing to them. @Albertkallal
@Albertkallal 3 года назад
What do you mean? Only 48 jets? They can deploy 36 of these on their carrier. That's more then just about every other carrier at sea with the exception of USA super carriers. Charles de Gaulle is max 30? With the larger HMS Q, then while it can accommodate 36, they can deploy 40+. In the Falklands war, we saw 13 on one carrier. This carrier right now has 18 on board. That is MORE jets on a British carrier in OVER 40 years!!! - you have to go back to early/mid 1970's to see a British carrier at sea with MORE then 18 jets on board. And this is the first deployment - quite much a "dry milk" run so to speak. I mean, a ship with 18 jets - and F35's? That right now is the MOST 5th gen stealth jets deployed by ANY nation at sea right now. As for the 48 in total? The total F35 number was stated to be 138. 48 of them "B" models, and then the rest are to be A models. As it stands now? I suspect the total number of jet may WELL be drastic reduced. But 48 B models looks to be solid. In fact, if they only say buy 20-30 beyond the 48? They will likely just go all B models. Right now, Britain has 18 F35's. So 8 of then are on this ship - the rest are at home air base. They are awaiting delivery of next batch - and just 6 more, they will have two full air wings for the HMS Q. I mean, for a nation that not had deployed air power at sea in 10+ years? A FIRST deployment with MORE jets then when at war in the Falklands, and in fact more jets in 40 years? Gee, what more could you ask for? This is BEYOND a great showing for the very first deployment. Lockheed has orders piled up right now, and can't keep up with demands. It will not be long before the HMS Q can deploy two full air wings on that ship (24 jets). Who the heck right now has 18 stealth 5h gen jets deployed at sea right now? Answer: no one on this planet! Remember, put 8 of those up in the air? You have BETTER coverage and information then what a AWACS plane flying can give those pilots. This is without ANY doubt the largest and most advanced air wing of 5th gen stealth fighters at sea right now. There not one tiny bit of shame in this deployment - and that setup is beyond anything else technology wise at sea right now.

@@gabbertje-rh7rw What do you mean too expensive? There is a HUGE long waiting list to get a F35 right now. Japan, Italy, UK, Netherlands, South Korea, Australia, and several more countries are waiting for F35's. They made about 121 F35's just last year. Most other jet production is NOT even 30 jets per year. They want to raise production to 200 per year - we not see that high of production since the cold war days. As for price? What are you smoking? Price: Rafael: $94 Million per copy Eurofighter: $120 million per copy F18 $67-75 million. F15 EX 88 million F35 $77 million. So how is the F35 high cost? It is less then MOST 4th gen fighters - especially the ones from europe.
