He once fought in karate combat which is full contact.

He would wipe the floor with them if allowed to use all karate techniques.

He needs to learn a lot of grappling for MMA. He does fine in combat karate, which is kickboxing with limited ground and pound.

It’s the rules that make it shit to watch sometimes. The competitors have to complete within those rules to “score a point” it’s not based off of real karate and self defence. It’s basically fencing with fists. I think karate kumite should be karate and teakwondo and judo combined. Double handed takedowns where the aggressor is in control of the throw should get 1 point and if clean and strikes without knees touching the ground gets 2 points. It should be judged off of effectiveness in combat not “clean and pretty…”

Those kumite athletes would still destroy any kata athletes in a fight tho

You never know. It may be included. Karate is very much cultivated in France and they anticipate medals.

You can hit the body but cannot hit the head with full power.

Aghayev had a bout in Karate Combat. And did quite well.

Try watching Kyoukushin instead. Also worth looking at some of the footage of tournaments from the 1970s.

@@spinoneintliano I agree. 2nd Dan shotokan. I started late in life in order to stay in shape. Anyways our sparring sessions were nothing like what they were doing in the Olympics. Again. No disrespect to TKD. Those guys do what they do quite well.
