AO2022 EDIT: probably the greatest comeback in his career in the final so I’ve edited my list: 1. Still Wimbledon 2008 Final - his dream accomplished, his haters proven wrong and history made 2. Has to be his 2 sets down final vs Medvedev AO2022 after coming back from surgery, 13 years after 2009, finally getting the double career slam + 21st GS leading the race! 3. 2009 AO Final vs Federer- incredible fighting spirit yet again after the 5hr+ semi vs Verdasco, conquers all surfaces beating Roger 4. Us Open 2013 final vs Djokovic, another classic comeback from 0-40 in a pivotal game in the 3rd set. Incredible battle! 5. AO 2009 semi vs verdasco, gruelling rallies and amazing winners, has to be one of the greatest matches ever! 6. RG2013 sf vs Djokovic - the greatest clay court match in history - another astonishing comeback from Rafa! I can’t rank the rest but it would include: 2019 UsOpen final vs Medvedev, 2022 AO vs shapovalov, 2010 us open final vs Djokovic, 2008 olympics sf vs Djokovic..

I personally would put 2013 RG SF above 2009 SF because Rafa just came off the back of a 7-month knee injury, that ended his Wimbledon campaign, and the quality of tennis against the world number 1 at the time was just as good as it was against Verdasco. Mentally, it was also tougher, having just lost in Monte Carlo to Djokovic pretty decisively at a tournament his previous loss came when he was 16.
@user-of6tl9cd5z
@user-of6tl9cd5z 2 года назад
@@daniel6323 yeah, but don't forget that it still was RG. he should have won this in 4 sets, when he was serving for the match. I find Rome 2006 for example, way more impressive. Because it was against federer's absolute peak, saved 2 match points, and he was only 20 years old. Nevertheless, Nadal is my guy for marathon matches, no question about that.

The Australian open final win v Federer was simply amazing!! How did he win that after the 5 hr match v verdasco!! GOAT!
@nogoodnameleft
@nogoodnameleft 3 года назад
One of his greatest moments, isn't it? He said that in that first set he was fucking exhausted and was feeling the pain from the Verdasco epic. He said later he felt that if he had lost that first set he was going to phone it in due to exhaustion and lose in 3 or 4 sets and nobody would blame him really. Then he miraculously won that first set after Roger completely choked closing out that first set numerous times and he was thinking to himself "game on...if I win either set two or three I can pull this off in five sets". He said adrenaline carried him throughout that whole final and that 10 set journey against Verdasco and Federer was one of the greatest accomplishments of his career.

What I remember from that match is Federer being so disappointed, by the loss, and crying. Then I remember Rafa, with respect to Federer, barely holding up the championship trophy and then going back to Federer to console him. Humility and Respect. That is Mr. Rafael Nadal. Nadal Is My Champion!

The 2013 USO Final still has my mind blown! Rafa was playing so aggressively and confidently. Djokovic was hitting some amazing shots and his defensive skills were on point, as usual. Rafa had to be so mentally tough and he played phenomenal tennis to finally win that match. 💪🏽🇪🇸🔥👏🏾

This Wimbledon victory is when I truly took notice of Mr. Rafael Nadal. I watched the last half of this match and was completely consumed by it. It very well may be "The Greatest Tennis Match" ever. From this moment onward, I knew Rafa was my favorite tennis player. 100 percent respect to Federer and some respect to Djokovic but Nadal is what a tennis player needs to have to win a match. His mental strength, sheer will and tenacity are unmatched. Nadal Is My Champion!
@2CSST2

"some respect to Djokovic" So what are you salty that Djokovic is the actual better player? He has 170 more weeks than Nadal as No1, he's won all the Masters 1000 plus the ATP finals. Almost his whole career he was trailing back from behind Nadal and Federer but he never gave up and now ends up on top, not even mentioning his early life in a war torn country. That "some respect to Djokovic" is the ultimate idiotic comment. Djokovic deserves MORE respect than Nadal.

I love this list you made. Should make a Top 6 though and add the 2019 USO F. That was the 3rd most epic Grand Slam final that Rafa has won. That is at least tied with 2009 AO SF and 2013 USO F. Nadal barely survived that fifth set. He suffered a hand injury during that USO final. At the Laver Cup a few weeks later he lasted only one match before having to withdraw from that and then had to pull out of all tournaments until Paris Bercy.
@tennistopshots6346
@tennistopshots6346 3 года назад
I agree, I was very close to putting 2019 USO on it, yet I still think beating Djokovic on hard in his peak is super impressive, especially coming back from 0-40 in that crucial game.

Stats wise obviously novak looks to be the GOAT and still continue to be favourite for the upcoming GS. However, if you see from 2005 who has been having huge wins and big titles at an early age clearly Rafa has to stand out. Novak only started to shine from 2011 onwards. What we´ve witnessed from Rafa, dethroning Roger at his peak is probably the hardest thing ever, including those finals 08 Wimbledon and 09AO. Yet game-wise i feel novak is as solid as ever but he has also had heartbreaking loses in critical moments. Olympics 08 12 16 20; USO 16 21; FO 15 amongst others. If you check nadals stats, he has never lost a GS final to anyone other than novak or roger. Well stan in AO 14 but he was clearly hold a back injury in probably the toughest AO draw he has ever had and playing lights out on hard courts. Thats why i feel Nadal is the GOAT, not to mention the energy he brings to the court on every point, there is no player that makes us feel this way.

One amazing Rafa match that I feel has kinda become forgotten is his 2017 Australian Open semifnal match against Dimitrov. When people talk about that tournament they usually talk about the final between Federer and Nadal but atleast IMO the semifinal was a better match. I guess the difference between that match and the ones you put on the list is that he didn't end up winning the tournament.

From a young man showing his biceps to evolving into a skill player to help his longevity, Ralpha has and will always be my favorite tennis player of all time. Roger is the best tennis player of all time, but Ralpha is the heart and soul of tennis and inspiration to us all, even with the same or more Grandslams as Roger. It's the will, the want, the warrior within even after a devastating defeat, NEVER GIVING UP!

You can't avoid injuries with his style of play. That s one of the few drawbacks of it. U can still argue the same reversewise, what if the other players haven t been injured....? This is just normal stuff to get injured while pushing to the limit, it happens every year.

For me Rafa and Fed are both the GOAT. I didnt like Fed in the early days of their rivalry, but since Fed flipped the table against rafa, beating him in AO and wimbledon in most impressive fashion, that earned my highest respect. For me, the most memorable matches are still from the early days. The MonteCarlo/Rome fights against Coria and Federer were so insane and career-changing. Andy we should not underestimate any FO final against Djokovic, how he won each of them under extreme pressure ;-)
