Involves dramatic press conference moments from Serena and Venus Williams, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer, Nick Kyrgios, Andy Roddick and more!
@@thrshwll1526 the reporter asked Andy if he should retire, to which Andy rolled his eyes and said, "I think YOU should retire", and walked out! I loved Andy's response.
Nasty bastards? why? because they asked some questions that the sisters were uncomfortable to answer? the journalist was not at all agressive, he spoke in a very calm way with no intention of ofend anyone or being agressive. Venus was the agressive one, in this case pasive-agressive, and playing the victim card. Not suprised though.
@@JD-pc6tk if someone feels defensive its cuz they are insecure haha thats all Defensive kinda aggressive cuz she was deviating to the guy And maybe she was right but felt insecure to answer Idk well
"I have never tested positive"... that really is not the same thing as saying that you have never taken anything illegal... isn't that the same line that Lance Armstrong used for years before getting busted?
@@vm1ccc Venus didn't have to be quiet when "checking" him. However, she chose to keep her composure when responding, thus robbing him and other reporters of a chance to spin this encounter into the angry black woman trope. She used her intelligence and incredible media savvy to take that power away from him. Checkmate!
@@vm1ccc im american and i noticed in youtube comments sections people say stuff like that a lot. i personally dont understand it. i dont like how people feel the need to try and box others into some weird inauthentic expressionless mode. like why do we have to use hushed tones to make the more nervous personality types feel more comfortable? if I'm checking someone, not showing emotion doesnt make me classy. the person who is out of line in the first place needs to be looked at for they behave more because they're the one trying to purposely antagonize the other.
How can a journalist come to a press conference and they didn't watch the match, but are questioning the very player they didn't watch? How unprofessional!!
I don’t even get why they have to do them. Are the people asking the questions ex players who know how playing feels or ppl who haven’t experienced sh*t and could never understand their situation? I just don’t get the point of all this picking apart. If I were an athlete I’d want to discuss it with my coach/team to see how I could do better and that’s it. No thanks to being picked apart like this after some of your lowest moments. ✋
It's part of the contract they willingly signed to walk out with a couple-million-dollars check after winning 5 or 6 tennis matches. Put in perspective, not even as hard as to face with your sales manager every month (if you work in sales, that is), eat whatever sh*t he's got in mind to throw at you, and walk out with the same pay. Give sales people, delivery ppl, table waiting ppl, cashiers, etc a rough press conference every now and then adding a $1K to their weekly income and see how smiley/happy they'll all repeatedly answer any "rough" questions the press may come up with. And even then these everyday workers wouldn't come close to grasping the kind of privileges tennis players get.
@@cricketmonday1469 The og comment was about how press conferences seem like more of a negative than a positive and you wrote a speech about how privileged they are to have this negative as long as they get a fat check. Regardless of the amount of 0s, I'm sure a cashier would get tired of people picking them apart after a long shift just the same as any high paid athlete.
@@spottedjellyfish5490 I agree with you Jelly. Yup. And I never missed the point of negative vs positive of press conference. But still they SHOULD do it regardless without a complaint -even if tired, down because of loss, or if they don't like the kind of repetitive questions being asked- for they signed a contract "in exchange" for that fat check; just as cashier signs a similar one yet for min wage.
Venus commanded power, dominance, and lethal poise by centering. She asked, "Are you getting aggressive with me?" Immediately defusing the brash reporter and then proceeded to make her point while dispersing grace and dignity on all. That was a power moment.
@@swiftlydoesit8480 absolutely. I felt the same way. I get what he was trying to ask but clearly it came out wrong. She had every right to respond the way she did (and she was nicer than I would have been).
“I’m a professional competitor who’s tried their best today” that was a graceful way to see yourself. You’ve may not of won but you played the best you can do against the best and that’s lovely.
It’s ashamed though, if Serena had Venus’s attitude it would still be a problem. It would actually be a bigger problem. Venus gives no fu@k$ and I love it! Serena has to be smiling and carefree at all times. If she had Venus’s attitude, at her level, she most definitely would be the angry black women.
She could but Venus knew Serena so she took on the idiot. Serena looks like her mother but have her father’s attitude, strong and confident, Venus looks like her father but have her moms quite but knife sticking method of getting you shut down fast. I love these ladies, father and mom trained them well , how to handle these racist and hateful undertones. Love it.
@ali akbar that has nothing to do with how disrespectful the interviewer was. How good or bad a player is does not allow another to be rude towards the individual nor gives permission to. You can criticise their work on the court but you don't be an ass to the person
The reporter was basically asking Venus if she was gonna have a discussion with Serena to decide who will go to the Final; like one of them would intentionally lose the match = Match fixing, a severe offence which would normally attract a life time ban in sports..?😂 Of all the dumb questions, this one tops the lot....and by a mile!
Oh back in the day, before meghan markle it was all about hate for the williams sisters. The press and the public were so racist and wanted to bring them down. But they persevered and you see why.
@@fazzaal-harnain643 you darn right she's beautiful. Some of you useless foreigners are sick. This is why yall want to look like us beautiful black Queens. Foh with your pale azz looking self
@@robinsoncruise2228 she felt the reporter was being aggressive and chose not to respond aggressively in return. She was in control of herself and changed the tone of the interview nicely and calmly, unlike the reporter
4:59 The reporter that congratulated the losing player thinking he won the match smh how EMBARRASSING!!!That should have gotten him kicked out. Can't do your job why are you here?
I think "King Richard" was important to showcase to the world the great mental fortitude their parents instilled in these women, and specifically Venus. Encouraged the importance of education along with knowing their worth and knowing how to navigate tough situations. Venus was the first one to be thrown out to the sharks on the big stage as a kid and she's been swimming expertly since the very beginning. Inspirational isn't a big enough word to describe her.
Did the Williams sisters do more pressers than anyone else in the world? I've seen alot of comments about how badly Serena behaves herself, but when Roddick or Nadal or others says something more shocking, they laugh and clap and say they are passionate and fiery and loves the sport. Smh
You cannot compare a woman who has never giving credit to anyone that has beaten her always n excuse why she lost not 1 time has she said that girl beat my ass it's migraines hard pregnancy foot wasn't right n she's a straight liar when she said I'll fuc... Ng kill you a real woman wouldn't lie they would say sorry I lost my temper she wouldn't acknowledge it till they showed her they had it on tape true colors come out with adversity the ohh love u guys my fans that bull s.. t is taught by her tennis experts on behavior n classy women teachings about what woman I. Tennis are lookedike all peoe that were around her said she is a straight bitch not Venus serena you can't compare serena to Nadal a real role model to angry butch
Facts!!!! They faced so much micro aggressions. THE double standard was like nothing i ever witnessed!! I literally wanted to reach through the TV for their entire career and slapped so many people on their behalf!
It is not arrogant to shut down stupid questions. If you two do not recognize grace under pressure- you can’t handle pressure. Stop hating and get on her level.
And journalists have tried their best to create the appearance of tension between them and failed over and over. Seriously, who wants to come between siblings?
Is classy saying to a journalist "are you getting agressive with me"? just because the journalist pointed out the question was for Serena, not Venus. And he said very calm. These two are many things, but not classy players.
@@eldrickt.w.3525 it was classier than the reporter was and he did become aggressive. He raised his voice and his tone was curt and rude . He was telling Venus to be quiet cause he was talking to Serena. Serena had already answered his question. So Venus nicely, politely and intelligently answered his question then they moved on like they should have. These reporters push and push until they get you annoyed enough to say something you'll regret. Then theyll write an article about how nasty Serena's attitude is. Venus handled it superbly.
After King Richard I never really thought that the scene where the interviewer asks about Venus' confidence was just a sliver of how disrespectful these interviewers can be.
@Tom Patriot when “white Americans” can’t accept black excellence, they try and degrade you.” So played out. Deal with it. We’re equal or better. Reality.
@@luisfernandosanchez3803 That question was disrespectful asf!! Then the person trying to “explain “ was just as ignorant and disrespectful asf!! I remember when that happened and I wanted to find a 1-800 number to call so I could say what Venus couldn’t say!!! 🤬🤬🤬
Richard always said Venus was the mean one.. Serena was all bark on the court but it was Venus with the bite! I love the Williams sisters been a fan of Venus since 94!!
Nadal is classic. These are fighters and passionate. Stupidity shines through these questions. Most people have no idea what it takes to be at that level of performance and the discipline it takes.
One of the best videos on RU-vid. Feeling the determination, the passion and the intelligence of these top athletes, and their reaction to stupid and provocative questions.... Wonderful.
I agree! It’s a great thing to watch for future champions to learn this is how you deal with stress situations, especially after watching Netflix break point documentary they are under so much stress during the match. Kiddos to everyone competing in this sport!
It’s so embarrassing how many of these clips have Venus or Serena… So obvious the amount of disrespect that was placed on them for obvious reasons. But we believe racism doesn’t exist
If you read what they wrote it’s clear as to why she said what she and racism had a lot to do with it. Hell of all the disrespect they should be happy that’s all Serena gave
@@Notifysender90 inserting racism into a situation just because a black person is involved is racist. Serena behaved like a jerk in her match against Clisters, nothing more nothing less. I had never seen this interview, but for me, she redeemed herself a bit with her gracious remarks about Kim.
@@stacitowery3475 the reporter sounded like a jerk as well but you probably don't think anything of it cause you feel she deserves to be spoken to in any way, 'Cause she's such a jerk and she had it coming but at least she redeemed herself in Your eyes. Who the fuck are you?? 🥱🙃
What many don't know is that Venus is the one you should not mess with. Yes Serena shows more emotions during a "tennis match". At most two hours but Venus will fudge you up..lol
I remember watching most of these interviews live and wanting to go through the t.v. on behalf of the players so I can only imagine how they felt! These reporters man!
I have loved seeing these black women dominate a “predominantly white” sport over the years. Absolutely loved it. Because a lot of these reporters, media and tennis fans have tried to discredit serena and venus and they’ve remained classy despite this. Like the first condescending reporter , most people have always tried to paint them as “angry” or “bitter” black women.
They truly did try to continuously bait them with their coded language and condescending questioning to portray them as "overly aggressive angry black girls/women" actually grotesque
Even if I don't know the score ! I enjoy those techniques and, skills the Williams can manifest perfection. This sports person with 24 grands, wants Serena to admire her. Serena doesn't have to admire anyone.
All over the Caucasian world you have people of colour told to work twice as hard just to even get seen. Also feel they have to be TWICE as nice or even three times as nice to get appreciated by people who themselves can be minus 3x's as horrible. All shown in the case of the Williams sisters and how they've been seen as an intrution by the ............? Good observation Jojo
It’s not bc their skin color. It’s the difference between how women and men are usually treated. Famous or not. MAJOR double standard just like so many other double standards between the two sexes. If women will keep standing up for themselves and calling people out on it, it will become less and less normal 👍🏻
I wonder why journalists are treated as gods, some of these people just ask stupid questions, and can be abrasive and too full of themselves. Kudos to professional sports men and women who put these fools in their rightful place!
Your wrong Walt. It's top-10 players who are treated like gods ('cause they sell tickets!) even when their behaviour is less than poor. At the end of the day EACH ONE (player/journalist) is doing his job... but players get away with the "way" they release frustration. I wonder if it'd be OK when a journalist gets cut off, ignored, insulted or not responded and he SHOWED HIS OWN FRUSTRATION BY THROWING HIS MIC TO THE INTERVIEWED PLAYER OR AGAINST THE WALL.
She deserves our respect and as a women and a person she has the whole spectrum of human emotions. She needs to be kind to herself allow her self to have emotions and also allow herself the opportunity to grow from each life experience. R E S P E C T !!!! Sorry she has people running her down and finger pointing and shaming her for it!!
Serena is annoying and pretentious, I can’t stand her … I love Venus because she is always herself, one of the most beautiful women in and out, in the world
@@metamorphicme9378, they ask dumb questions across the racial spectrum AND the rate of dumb and demeaning questions is higher for certain racial groups and also for women. That's been studied so you'll have to find better racism denier metrics than "vibes".
@G.D, so then you don't read peer-reviewed scholarly journals that study racist behavior and bias. And, you have no idea how much research I have conducted. I do find it quite fascinating when people jump in with a knee jerk denial of racism when they have no idea what the research actually says.
@G.D, apparently you do need to be told what racism is because you incorrectly objected to my merely pointing out the well documented fact that black people are more likely to be asked demeaning questions. You fit nicely into another area of research. That is, people who deny racism exists are more likely to quickly claim racism has not occurred when they have nothing but their own immediate fragility and discomfort to use as data.
That's right Venus! Stand up for lil sis and let NOBODY shhhushh you or push you aside especially when you are telling them It's over and we are here to talk about the doubles championship!!
This reflects the immense amount of pressure Venus and Serena were under during their ENTIRE career. But they personify grace under pressure, and I thank God they reigned in my lifetime.
i dont always need grace under pressure. i need people to realize human emotions are okay. its okay to stand up for yourself with passion in your heart.
The press are truly rude and hateful, my goodness “Do I need to spell it out for you…” I wouldn’t still be sitting in my seat if he spoke to me like that 😂
@@MzApril1980 Ape: you call me troll 'cause I have a different opinion than yours (and don't believe Rafa and Williams)? What should I call YOU just for that? You keep feeling free to buying both their stories; I, on the other hand, think they're pardon (many grave faults) because they sell tickets. Same as Sharapova's case when she was top and was allowed to return to the arena. It's all about money ...the tournament organisers' of course!
My, my some of these reporters do ask some dumb questions. Luckily the players are intelligent enough to slide them right back in their places without coming off as abnoxious as they are.
I love big sister standing up for Serena, especially back then when Serena was young in the tennis game... I love how their parents taught them to be nice and respectful until someone gives you a reason it to be!
From the perspective of someone in the U.S., the foreign press comes off as extremely disrespectful and ignorant in their line of questioning. I don’t know how the athletes tolerate it.
obviously not just the US perspective of over half of the players are foreigners and feel the question was also extremely rude 😭 like what are these people asking
Venus defending Serena is an example of what a lot of people don’t know: Don’t come for her or her family or it will be the last thing you do. Venus is never the one. She shuts it down every time. Just ask Barbara Strycova, Vinci, the Greek umpire at the Australian Open, or the umpire at that ‘16 French Open. Or the umpire she told “God controls the weather, take it up with him” to.
Blessings 🙏🏾❤️🙏🏾 So many years ago and I still love Venus care for her little sister. Look at her eyes, waiting for a question to cross the line. I love that Lady heart ❤️. God bless her 🙏🏾
The difficulty here is that a lot of these questions are just deliberately provocative, designed to create headlines. Many journalists are disgraceful people.
