This is for me the best match I've ever seen. The angles, power, serving, finesse and passion these guys played with was insane. I feel this match keeps getting underrated because it was not a final , it was Verdasco instead of another big 3 player/grand slam winner and it didn't have the historical significance of some other great matches but this is hands down the best in terms of quality I've ever seen. Neither held back with their shots. Not a single rally did I see where atleast one player wasn't all out attacking. Even the unforced errors they made never felt like poor shots because they were always looking to land killer blows. Credit to Verdasco for putting on such a show and extracting such a performance from Nadal.

It is definitely in the list of the greatest matches I’ve ever seen. I’m honestly not sure I could only pick one but this would be a contender. Roddick vs ElAyouni is another

Agreed. Beating Verdasco, who played the best tennis of his career in this match, then beating Federer in a five setter in the finals is probably rafas greatest grad slam achievement. The only match I would put above this one is 2008 Wimbledon.

In my top 10 matches of all time. It's only not the greatest because it's not the final and non rivalry. Skill wise it probably is though. But the best matches due to rivalry and weight of history are (in no particular order) - - Novak vs Stan Aus Open Hard R16 2013. - Nadal vs roger 2008 Wimbledon final. - Novak vs Nadal 2012 Aus open final. - Novak vs Rafa 2018 Wim SF. - John McEnroe v Ivan Lendl - FO final, 1984. - Rafa v Novak - 2013 FO SF. - Novak v Federer - 2019 Wimbledon Final. - Federer v Andy Roddick - 2009 Wimbledon Final. - Bjorn Borg v John McEnroe - 1980 Wimbledon Final.

This match and Verdasco's performance had such a big impact on me. Rafa is my favourite athlete ever but I remember going from barely watching Verdasco's matches to being a super fan of the guy. I even styled my hair into a mohawk and bought the same Tecnifibre rackets as he used in this match. Sadly Verdasco couldn't maintain this insane level of tennis for much longer and became a very inconsistent player. I don't sport the mohawk any more but still use Tecnifibre rackets almost a decade later which should tell you how much I love them.

@youtuytumaddrre
@youtuytumaddrre 2 года назад

I genuinely think the tennis Verdasco played in that 4th set tie-break is the best tennis there ever was in the history of this great sport. I don't think any version of Fed, Rafa or Nole could have won that tie break. And I really think it will take decades before anyone reaches that level again, because - as we saw over the last 3 years - the big 3 generation was the best generation ever. And the ones after them were worse. And I don't know, if that will change in the next years Maybe we will never see that level again... Tennis really peaked in those 7 Minutes imo, and I think we should apprectiate those 2 players for giving them to us To this day I still don't understand how Rafa won that match. One of the greatest matches ever. One of the best perfomances ever by Verdasco, but Rafa somehow managed to beat him. What a Warrior...

First tennis match I watched start to finish. Still the greatest ever contested. I felt like I sprinted 6 miles,m just sitting in the couch.

If verdasco would have won this match ain't no way he is winning against Roger. I know for a fact Federer was wishing for the upset lol

Great thing Nadal could pull it thru. Verda would've been an easy target for Fed

This was the most brutal match of Nadal i ever watched. Close 2nd was 2012 AO Vs. Djokovic. But the best Verdasco had ti offer.

25 min replay and you skipped the entire second set which had at least 10 epic rallies.

Perhaps the worst highlights I've ever seen in my life. The level of this match is one of the highest we've seen in the sport, but this video only shows the end of the sets, as if that was the only important thing in a tennis match. We don't even see one of the most extraordinary and iconic points of Nadal's career, the banana shot that gives him second set point. What a shame.

Not just is this not upscaled, they also had much better quality options in 2009. Lol

It's amazing how players can perform so incredibly and then slowly completely fall off the radar. Verdasco just could not emulate a performance like this ever again. Nadal did so time and time again.

This has finally been matched US Open 2022 QF Alcaraz vs Sinner . And I feel Alcaraz will have all the power he needs for his Semi. It seems playing epic matches carry’s onto your next . Nadal was 23 here . Alcaraz is 19

Federer fans were rooting for Verdasco in this match, just like Rafa fans rooted for Murray in the 2012 Aus open SF...:P
