very happy for Nuno Borges. Came up to the pros the hard way, played college tennis did really well, then ITF, did well, then worked really hard and won several challengers, now on ATP big boy tour full time in 2024, had an amazing Australian open run (beat Dimitrov et al) and now wins his first ATP title in his first final. Very humble person, he took a picture with my little son just mins after he had a disappointing loss in a first round grass tournament and gave him a big smile. I know this comments section is mostly about Rafa fans demanding unreasonable results from Nadal but I'm here to say Congrats Nuno, supper happy for you, and hope you have more success! And Nadal fans, yeah sure he's king of clay blah blah but this is a sport, with small margins, and getting back to top form takes time, at least respect the athlete you support and the hard work he's putting in, instead of telling to retire because you can't contain your disappointment sitting on your couch.

@@loganthewolverine2030 yeah this comment section is full of either Nadal haters or Nadal supporters saying Borges is weak and beat an old Nadal. All of them sitting on their couch with their huge bellys complaining. Talk is cheap.

I mean yes Nadal is the king of clay, but he just got back you know, you should not disrespect people that just got back from injuries, Yes he is the King Of Clay But why did you need to say blah blah blah, nonsense, but yes your right, i like your decision about nadal, but this sport needs potential, experience, glad thing nadal still fought for the title, even though he was injured that bad, and had a 4 hour marathon match, but im happy what you say (no offense) 😊

You dont' have the same legs/speed at 38 that you have at 21 or even 30. He didnt' play bad but the younger player just outlasted him and played really well timed drop shots which a younger nadal would have easily returned. Nadal knows it's time but he is delaying it until one last shot at Olympics and then US Open. If he doesnt retire in 2024 at some point after US Open, I would be surprised.

@@Dark_Voice Look at how he served, how he hit.. Nadal couldn't even hit his serve, he was standing in the corner of the court.. very often, players in such tournaments play much better than in the top ones.. you will see the tournaments where 300 are playing.. there is generally an incredible level of tennis and everything else is a mentality.. the difference between the first and the 500th racket is only in the head.

Congratulations to Borges ! Well played and deserved victory. Nadal visibly tired from his previous matches. Also lacking usual spark and topspin on his forehand. Using his forehand down the line rarely in this match. I think he would be back at Olympics but would be tough to beat the top players there.

Never heard of Borges. I just came to see where Nadal's game was. I think making this final speaks very well of him. He has been inactive and faced injury for a long while now. He seemed to play very well in this tourney. If I were him, I would be encouraged.

congrats to Nuno. after that whole debacle with Garin earlier this year it's nice to see the universe give him some joy for once😂 sad for Rafa tho. His backhand has never been my favorite but boy ive never seen him hit that shot with such little depth. it was picked apart from first point to last😢
