2019 is going to have a really good blandest games list

This review in a nutshell: Rage? More like, Not Even Mildly Annoyed.

Hey Yahtzee, can you reveiw this new game that came out? It's called Preflight Panic, and it's an absolute gem.

"Gregrade Upnades" - had to rewind to check wether I just had a short stroke or Yahtzee bumped into the scrabble table. ^^

Think of it this way: if we didn't have the original Rage then DOOM 2016 would have been its original concept of bland every shooter we already have seen a thousand times.

I'm glad Yahtzee mentioned the ammo crate thing. That drove me up the wall. It's actually *_HARD_* to melee an ammo crate. I mean, how do you fuck that up?

Can't wait for this "bland open world with 5 boring sidequests repeated a million times"-fad to finaly blow over. But I won't hold my breath...

Why do I both love this game (41 hours and counting) and agree with everything said in this video?

This is the first video for me where almost everything he pointed out in the game made me go "Oh my God, I was thinking the same thing when i played it."

Yahtzee says a game should be more like the latest entry in one of Nintendo's long-running franchises. That can't be a good sign.

Thank God you mentioned the stupid as hell hit box for the ammo boxes. Hitting those things was harder than the game was on the highest difficulty.

*2016:* Some really cool games released recently and I'm hyped for all the upcoming titles planned for 2017! *2017:* Wow, such a diverse set of amazing games, the industry is really getting it together and not making the same bland things anymore! *2018:* Um... still some cool games but seems like we took a step back there, but that's fine, still better than the beggining of the generation overall *2019:* So we're back to just not trying anymore, huh?

Looks like we'll just wait for Doom Eternal to release instead. At least that's what ID Knows what to do. Besides, open world is a mechanic that's too overused for it's own good. Less games need to have it.

I used to watch Zero Punctuation when I was in highschool over 10 years ago, im honestly surprised this is 1: still around 2:still has the same opening 3:Yahtzee still hates everything

Actually, the fire revolved is pretty good when the enemies are in a large quantity. Each detonation has a fairly large size, meaning if you fire the shots into a bunch of different enemies and wait a second, theyll all end up closer to one another and you can kill like 20 guys at once.

this review is 100% accurate game was painfully too short only has 8 story missions

I found it hard to give a damn about anything in this game. The casual NPC are so ridiculous that no connection can ever be established. The Cutscene NPC's seem like emotionally distant generic character tropes. You have a big sandbox full of toys to play with but it all feels like you are in there alone and, pretty much, wasting your time. They could have done so much more if they invested in story and with Em and Mo cap. It ties Far Cry New Dawn for being a pointless sandbox with toys.

This looks like the most bland/boring game ever made

Original Rage was fan. It was a very well crafted experience. To be fair, the ending sucked though...

Dude, Im just glad Rage 1 delayed Doom 2016 enough so they had plenty of time to make a good Doom game. Seems like Rage 2 is doing the same thing.

Shotgun, Rifle and Rocket Launcher needs to be a real law firm

Seems like the saints row issue with weapons and vehicles but without the comedy to keep it going.

Just walk away and there will be an end to the horror.

It was a fun 9,5-ish hours, then the main baddy dropped dead in 1 minute. Don't feel like replaying. If the game was priced lower, it would have worth it!

It's a game that wasn't worth its price tag. Becomes worth it at a much cheaper price

Fun facts: 1. While Yahtzee's spiel is funny, what actually happened went the other way: When _Doom 4_ languished, _Rage 2_ (originally slated for 2012) was put on the back burner. Once _Doom 4_ was remapped into _Doom (2016)_ , _Rage 2_ was back on. (Although the open-world stuff is courtesy of Avalanche Games, in Sweden.) 2. Not mentioned by Yahtzee: Yes, there is a plot, involving a Greater Destiny and all that.

Post-apocalypse sandbooxes are the only subgenre that gets an excuse to make a huge, empty world so they can say their game is big but not have to design anything inside of it.

I would say this is just another bland Ubisoft game, but err... Bethesda, right. Now they make pointless games too. Could have sworn this was Far Cry From A Real Game 6, or something.

I just bought and played through the first Rage a couple days ago. My experience was, "hey, this is kinda neat. Oh, these missions aren't very fun. Wow, *this* mission is great! Oh, the missions aren't very fun again. Oh; I guess the game's over." Needless to say, I'm not rushing out to buy Rage 2.

AAA this year is so bad and generic. The only stuff I've enjoyed this year are rereleases or updates of old games. I guess it's evidence this gen is almost over and/or AAA dev have no idea how to make a game that's fun anymore.

Jeez Yahtzee I assumed Dev Diary meant you wouldn't be doing Zero Punctuation this year, don't hurt yourself!

Doom is a great sandbox you can choose what weapons you use to brutally murder what demon. Who said you don't get chooses in linear games?

I don't know why all people hate rage 1... I like it... And i dont understand what all other people have.... Rage 1 was an amazing game... I don't care what story it had... I loved the shooting mechanics... You also dont play doom for the story...

the Apocalypse is so over used like zombies and eco terrorism I miss the days of witches, birds, hords of vampire, and werewolves. let's mix it up wIth some new doom every now and again how about some wareCats, warants and spider's ^o.+^

I enjoyed rage 1. Will agree ending sucked. Played rage 2, thought rage 1 was harder and more suspenseful. I agree that all you need is rifle, shotgun and rocketlauncher, i personally add the rail gun as a sniper rifle. Rage 1, dark, challenging, with okay story, bad ending. Rage 2, comedy, cartoon powers, easy. short story. Ending was meh.

No where is it more pathetically obvious that Yahtzee is an entertainer, not a reviewer, than when it comes to open world sandbox or post-apoc games. He didn't even touch on the various reasons why Rage 2 is ACTUALLY bad, he just took the lazy route (what a surprise) of going "HERP DERP IT'S ANOTHER POST-APOCALYPTIC SANDBOX GAME, BETTER NOT PUT ANY EFFORT INTO MY 'REVIEW' SO I CAN FOCUS ON WANKING MY PERSONAL PROJECTS OFF INSTEAD!"

Rage 2: The Return of Zach de La Rocha

HOLLY SHIT....THIS GAMES ARE GETTING BLANDER AND BLANDER...even yatzhee cant make a funny enough zero punctuation about it. It s dead stranding so groundbreaking and crazy that it needs to feed from the interesting of videogames in general or what?

So it's still better than Fallout 76 at least? Granted that's not a high bar.

I say this is more of an Avalanche game than an Id game. The world and game design, the vehicle physics and combat. The way the story is absolutely not integrated into the game world with any cohesion. The northern region is basically unused. This screams Just Cause 2 design philosophy. Huge open worlds were all the 'rage' (wink wink) back in '08 for the sheer spectacle and novelty factor. But it's played out. You need to give us a reason to explore the world beyond 'just because'.

i require some gaming scholar's wisdom: i vividly remember 90s game "Rage incoming", is this rage series a reboot of that (in vain of Doom 4 "2'016")? is it otherwise unrelated? it is bugging the hell out of me! (original was made by Raven soft in 98, published by Interplay) i gotten mine from VooDoo2 Banshee included software so i assume it was not very stellar

I'm not sure why BOTW keeps getting brought up as a good example of an overworld. There's stretches of nothing jammed with pace destroying cliffs with the same 5 enemy types over and over and yeah ill go ahead and say it, it's not really that pretty. Yahtzee blink twice if the Zelda fans are making you use their idol as a good example against your will.

Rage 2 is like Crackdown 3. An absolute waste of time, money, and effort that ahould have been scrapped and put to use on something that serves a purpose other than annoying gamers. Absolutely terrible games with ridiculously poor planning put into them.

I loved the gravity dart weapon; it never stopped being hilarious to splat enemies into the side of a nearby mountain.

Rage 2 makes me rage too

My Experience with Rage 2 "Oh hey this is actually kind of great, the challenge has all but disappeared but this gameplay is really fu- Oh it's over already." Weird considering I did pretty much everything as well. TBF I was wondering why this game was as abrupt and flaccid as the first one with what seems like an even shorter campaign and somehow an even more disappointing ending despite it being exactly the fucking same but about a week after finishing it I rewatched all the current Doom Eternal Trailers and realised "Yeah why would they care when they're also working on this, I probably wouldn't." Did you guys see that Comic Panel bullshit when the credits rolled. "Oh it'll be really cool, players will see all the memorable moments of the story in comic book format" The Story being about 8 missions long and each mission feeling the exact same as clearing out a bandit camp on the map. And the story introductions, good god! "This is Lily, my best friend for life, watch her have one conversation with me in the tutorial and never say or do anything ever again until she shows up at the very end after I've killed the final boss, picks my lumbering ass off the floor and says two words before it awkwardly cuts to black and ends the game" Prefer the first one, this just ended up feeling like a waste of time for both me and the developers

It's funny how I've developed this habit when I see Yahtz put up a video about a game I know nothing about of going to watch the vanilla IGN review of the game to see gameplay then coming back here to see Yahtzee's video about a game I have no interest in buying or ever playing.

This game made me physically angry to the point I had to do a workout just to calm the fuck down. And I got the damn thing for free. Fuckin hell at least the shotgun is nice.

Finally, someone addresses the weapon gimmick problem. There are guns that kill! Also... no sand worm, but it was in the trailer. :(

The specialty guns just need another gun that summons dinosaurs and the most nonsensical weapon trifecta will be complete.
